Angelo was sitting in a corner of the library, getting a bit of last-minute revision done. Hearing the door open, he glanced up and smiled when he saw Kitty come in.

Kitty had a pair of pencils stuck into her hair, holding it up, and a third tucked behind her ear as well as a note book secured under her arm. She grinned when she spotted Angelo, heading over towards him. "Hiya," she said as she approached. "How go the finals?"

Angelo shrugged, closing his book and laying it aside. "Not too bad, I think. You?"

"Much the same. I'm mostly done, actually. Finished my gymnastics and dance finals today, and I just have to finish one more paper, thankfully."

Angelo nodded. "Yeah, I think most of us are comin' up to finishin'. How'd today's exams go?"

Kitty grinned. "It's dance and gymnastics - not a lot of brain power required, and a nice change from all of this," she said with a wave around the library.

Angelo chuckled. "Yeah. Makes me wish I'd taken one of the fun subjects."

"Your loss."

Angelo shrugged, grinning. "Yeah, I guess so. I'll know better next year." He paused, then asked, "So, you know what you're doin' over the summer yet?"

Kitty suddenly scowled. "Unfortunately, yes."

Angelo blinked at her. "What's up?"

"My parents are requiring that I come home for the whole summer - three months in Chicago on my own. I'm... less than pleased."

Angelo stared. "...Wow. Did you explain why you don't want to?"

Kitty nodded. "I'm not getting any say. Wasn't worth arguing over - they'd already bought the tickets before they told me."

Angelo winced. "Ouch. Sucks when they treat you like a little kid, huh?"

"Yeah," she said with a sigh. "Three months without Jamie or any of my friends..."

"But Jamie can visit you, right? Or you could go out to the farm?"

"I don't know yet. My mom's not being very... forthcoming. She won't even let me talk about when I'll be coming back here." Setting her note book down, Kitty pulled out a chair and half flopped into it.

Angelo raised an eyebrow. "That doesn't sound good. I mean... you'd think it'd be obvious. 'Cause even if she wants you there for the vacation, you'll be comin' back when class starts again, won't you?"

"I assume so, yeah. If she thinks something different she's going to have a hell of a fight coming to her. But," Kitty added, "I think my dad would be on my side - he likes this place."

Angelo nodded. "Well, that's somethin'. An' whatever problem she might have with this place, I'm sure the Professor could talk her round. An' even if she doesn't let you go visit Jamie, or have him to stay, there's always e-mail an' the phone. I know it wouldn't be the same, but..."

Kitty nodded. "Definitely not the same. And honestly, I don't know that my mom's got something against Xavier's. She may just be, I don't know, in a mood over something. But either way, it means me with a couple months of not much to do."

Angelo shrugged. "Well, Chicago sounds like a pretty cool place. But maybe it's different when you grew up there - guess you'd do everythin' worth doin', over time."

"Nah, Chicago's not so bad. I mean, if nothing else, I know all the places to go worth going to. I just... don't really have any friends there."

Angelo glanced over at her sympathetically. "You lose touch when you came here?"

Kitty blushed and glanced down at the table. "No, more I... I never really had a lot of friends at home - I was too intelligent to be in classes with my peers, but too young for most of the people I ended up in class with."

Angelo nodded - not understanding, exactly, never having experienced anything close to what she meant, but getting it anyway. "You had some, though, right? "Not a lot" doesn't mean "none"..."

Kitty shrugged. "There were a couple girls at my dance studio who didn't think I was a complete waste of space, I guess. God only knows what they're up to, though - we weren't ever really close and I've been here for a pretty long time."

Angelo nodded again, reaching to squeeze her hand. "Maybe you can get your folks to take you on trips? Pass the time that way?"

"My dad might be up for that, maybe." She shrugged. "I guess I'll just sort of see what things come to."

"Pretty much all you can do, it seems like", he agreed. "It'll be okay, you know? Three months really isn't as long as it seems right now."

"Yeah, I know. It's just... I'll be missing so much. Think about how much happens here in just one month, let alone three. And... Jamie and my anniversary and both of our birthdays are in the summer."

Angelo winced. "Ah. Didn't know that. Maybe Jamie can get to the city, somehow, an' you two can go out? 'Specially if you're with your dad, he sounds more reasonable."

"I'm hoping so. And if not... well, we'll come up with something."

Angelo grinned. "'Course you will. You're pretty resourceful, both of you."

That got a grin out of Kitty as well. "True enough," she said. "And currently, my resources say I should finish this paper and then drag Jamie off for another quiet evening."

Angelo chuckled. "Fair enough. Make the most of the time you got before you gotta go. Good luck with the paper."

"Thanks. Good luck with your final finals."
