Old and new friends meet each other.

Never one to accept the cooler climes she'd been living in for the last five years, Alani was bundled in a sweater as she and Sooraya walked the mansion grounds after coming back from the city. What calm talk they'd been having was quickly interrupted when Alani noticed a woman on the lawn with a sign. "Free hugs? I - Hi?" Lowering her voice a pitch she nodding at the woman with white streaks in her dark hair. "Old friend, sweet pea?"

"Huh?" Sooraya glanced at her, still a little stunned. "Uhm, yes, she is. Come on, I'll introduce you." With a bit of a bounce in her step, she hurried over, tugging Alani along. "Marie! You're back! When did that happen?" Carefully she reached over to hug her friend.

"Aw, thanks, love," Rogue responded, hugging back. "Just got in today, and I'm already bored of Garrison so I thought this was the best way to see everyone." She grinned. "Missed ya too, by the way, even though we have our weekly Facetime calls. It's so nice to actually see you in person." Peeking over Sooraya's shoulder, Rogue looked quizzically at Alani. "And who's this new person?"

Immediately a smile had started, hesitant but intrigued by a friend of Sooraya's, before she raised a hand in greeting. "Alani, I live with Sooraya now, pleasure to meet you." Why did that sound like a question even to her own ears? "And you - I've heard about you, haven't I?" Perfect, an actual question.

Rogue shrugged with a smile. "I can't answer that one, sugar. I ain't new around here, if that's what you're askin'. Been here since I was just a little mutant, in my early days of power training." She waggled her gloved hand. "Better now, but best to be on the safe side...so anyways, all that to say, nice to meet ya, Alani. Are you .... living together? Cuz if you are, Sooraya -- y'all missed an important li'l detail in our last phone call."

Sooraya affectionately rolled her eyes at her friends. "We're roommates, you silly. Can you picture me rattling in a suite all by myself?" Throwing a smile at Alani she explained honestly: "I've known Marie since I first came here over fifteen years ago. She was a big part in how I managed to get through my crisis of faith after M-Day, to be honest."

Alani nodded sagely as she shook Marie's hand, and now it was a grin, white teeth flashing in amusement for a moment. "We both went a little off living in two-room suites by ourselves so why not move in together. And, well, it's a pleasure to meet you. I'm always happy to meet friends of Sooraya's -- she keeps such a fun bunch."

"These rooms are all big and stuff, can get lonely if you don't have friends in your head like me." Rogue crinkled her nose happily. "I'm glad to hear you guys have each other then. Alani ... that's a fun name, different. Where ya from?"

"Hawai'i," came the almost immediate response, pinning the woman's comment on friends in the head for something to ask about later. "On an island most my life, but thought I'd come to America. Are you... American?" She finally asked, unable to place the woman's accent in a mansion from around the world.

"Only by the fact that I was born here yah, otherwise I'm essentially Canadian. I have dual citizenship now, didn't even bother with the whole landed resident thing. Go big or go home, right?" She smiled. "Hawaii .... oh man, I've never been. Me and places with lots of exposed skin...not the greatest." She waggled her gloved fingers. "Got skin that sucks the life out of ya. And I really don't wanna sweat more than I haveta. That's why Montreal is so awesome for me. Nice and cold and crisp."

"And she still hasn't managed to answer the question of how a 'Southern transplant' manages to survive up there. Even after so many years." Sooraya quickly volleyed back. "How about we head in for some tea or hot chocolate? The wind is pretty biting."

"Yes please." Yes, the words came out almost as one, but Alani had not and likely would never learn to survive in the north in America. She had no urge to, either. "I could go for a cup of lemongrass tea myself. Join us?" She asked Marie with a smile.
