LOG: Shatterstar and Rogue (Backdated)
Dec. 30th, 2023 08:39 pmBackdated to November 18 Shatterstar is inherently suspicious of Rogue the first time he meets her.
Shatterstar jogged up to the woman who, notably, he had never seen before. He frowned at her sign, finding it somewhat suspicious. He crossed his arms over his chest, concerned about the security of the mansion. People here made bad decisions all the time and if this really was someone in need of help there was a better way to go about it than a sign that said "FREE HUGS".
"You're trespassing," he said indignantly.
"Trespassing," Rogue drawled, "implies I'm not wanted or appreciated, and sugar, let me assure you, I am both." She leaned back in her chair and grinned, her sunglasses and toque clashing horribly. "Now, are you here for a hug or to talk semantics? I'm fine with either, I'm pretty easy."
He wrinkled his nose slightly, knowing that he had never seen her on the grounds before and not recognizing her from any photographs- not that he had been in many private suites. "Who are you?" he asked, standing a good couple feet away from her in case she got any ideas about hugging him.
Oh this was a new one. Rogue sat up and grinned. "My name's Rogue. I am an X-man....well. Used ta be. It's kinda complicated, really... what do you need to know from me that will make you feel better? I am definitely a safe person."
He huffed at the implication that he felt unsafe. Though if she was some sort of person here to do harm, he wasn't armed and he still wasn't the best with his powers. But she knew about the X-Men, which was a good start. "Who on the X-Men knows you and can vouch that you are who you say you are?" He interrogated.
"Do we need another adult? Because if so, we can't call Garrison. Scott would work," she offered. "But if it makes you feel better, I know about the danger room since I've run it, I know about the blackbird, since I can fly it, and I know where the labs are, not because I need it since I'm invulnerable and like to visit Jean sometimes to chat. Do I need to name drop more? Kurt's my brother, I used to date Wolverine, I've mentored half these kids, and if we had a wall with pictures, I'd be up there with the label of Miss Congeniality."
His face flushed slightly red, but he nodded- clearly she was who she said she was, or too good of an imposter for it to be Shatterstar's problem. "It's nice to meet you," he said after a moment of embarrassed silence. "I'm Shatterstar. I still decline the hug."
"That's fine," she responded back. "Hugs aren't for everyone, and I have zero desire to impose myself on anyone. It's just there for who need it." She smiled. "And don't feel bad for the questions. Better safe than sorry! I appreciate your concern for the mansion. Have you been here long?"
Oh she was almost too nice, Shatterstar thought to himself. It made his skin itch, but not out of concern for the safety of the mansion and more for his own comfort. He would have to avoid her in the future. Women who were too nice made him feel like a rabbit caught in a trap. "I've been here since May," he told her. And because he had been paying attention to Miss Abbott's conversation lessons, he added his own question. "Why were you on a leave of absence?"
He was pretty sure it didn't even sound like an accusation.
Rogue's therapist radar was tingling. She'd have to tread lightly with this one. "Well, I'm a counsellor and I went to Montreal to finish my Master's and started working with mutant teens up there. I've got dual citizenship in Canada, so I go back and forth a lot and I dunno.... I got a lot of personalities up here, which most of them are Canadian. Did that answer anything? Probably not."
No wonder he didn't like her, Shatterstar decided when he found out she was a counselor. Her comment on personalities went right over his head. He nodded to her and tried to remember how to politely finish a conversation before he got uncomfortable to start feeling his powers rise. "It answered enough. Thank you. I'm sure the X-Men are glad to have you back."
"I hope so, and if not, they're stuck with me anyways," Rogue responded cheerily. "I am an open book, so anytime, I'm around, sugar."
Shatterstar nodded, satisfied that he he could remove himself from the conversation now.
That woman was exhausting to be around!
