Matt and Clint enjoy family brunch. And roasting each other

Carrying in the plate with three tall stacks of pancakes on it, Clint sat it in precisely the middle of the table - it sat next to the fried potatoes, the eggs, and the bacon/sausage dish. He took his seat and there was the customary pause during which, in a different family, they would've said grace or a prayer, but as it stood the moment passed in silence before they all reached for utensils to begin loading their plates.

"How's the job in Westchester?" Clint asked, glancing at his Steve as he battled Matt with his fork for possession of the best looking piece of bacon.

"Almost done," Steve answered, taking pancakes for himself along with sausage, "We do the final walk through just after the new year, so I've been there checking everything to get ahead of any last minute concerns. It's looking like my next one will be in the general area, too."

"Sweet," Clint said, grinning as he stole the bacon and dropped it on his plate - victorious. "It's nice getting to see you more regularly. Y'know, now you're not building a masterpiece in Austria." He gave his dad significant eyebrows, then laughed a little.

"That was two years ago," Steve responded mildly, passing the pancakes to Andre.

"You missed Christmas," Clint pointed out, stabbing two sausages at once and plopping them on his plate next to his bacon.

Smiling despite the way he rolled his eyes, Steve said, "I Facetimed in."

Finishing the well-worn argument, Clint rolled his eyes right back at Steve and said, "Doesn't count."

Before either Clint or Steve could start another not-fight, Andre asked Matt, "How's everyone doing? It's been a while since we've seen Foggy, not to mention Marci."

"And you haven't met Doug at all," Clint interjected.

He then immediately regretted speaking, since he knew what was going to follow.

"Or Sam," Matt agreed, turning his attention to his brother, "Did you guys know that Clint's dating a twink half his age with 7 kids?"

Aaah, the joy of conversation bombs.

The outcome was as expected, with both men and Clint all talking at once. Finally, Andre hollered for them all to zip it, then he turned to his oldest. "Explain?"

"One sec," Clint responded as he turned to face Matt. "You're an ass and I really dislike you right now." Then, clearing his throat, he looked back toward his fathers. "Okay, so Sam's 26, which is not half my age, thank you Matthew. And he has like... seven siblings, but his dad died when a bunch of them were still really little, so he stepped up to help his mom. He worked in a coal mine in Kentucky, then a bar in District X, and now he's working with XFI - still in District X. And he's living in the mansion." He took a breath. "The reason I haven't brought him over is because we've been on like two dates so we're still in the 'getting to know you' phase, which is fine cause we're taking it slow. Doug has been a thing for like. What? More than a year?"

Clint picked up his glass to take a sip of orange juice, muttering, "Suck on that, you little shit," so quietly his fathers couldn't hear it.

Yeah, that was fair. "Wait, he's 26?" That was surprising. Still young, but Matt had thought he was maybe 22 at most. That was.... not entirely reassuring, but better. Lewdly, Matt ate a sausage while staring at Clint.

"I'm not sure 26 is significantly better," Andre began, only for Steve to give him a look, their age difference was larger than that.

"And Darcy is still injured. Doug is with her. I'm happy to bring him to dinner sometime for you to meet him," take that Clint. "I'm not hiding anyone. It's just....sprawling." I can

"Did you just -- " Clint began.

"Well, it sounds like you're both enjoying your time with your partners," Steve interrupted.

"I'm not hiding Sam," Clint continued, casting a half-apology look toward his dad.

Andre reached across the table to pat Clint's hand. "We know. You'll bring him by when the time's right." Kindly, neither of his fathers mentioned that he hadn't brought anybody home in well over two years. After Angel, it'd really only been Wanda that he'd brought home, but she was busy and so was he and they'd never really talked about being more, anyway.

"Uh huh," Matt answered doubtfully. "Anyways, I'm meeting Foggy for mass later, if you're interested," he was also staying with Foggy given all the crazy at the mansion at the moment. He didn't think anyone would join, but he always made the offer.

"I am actually tempted," Clint said, then shrugged. "But I don't feel like third wheelin' it with you guys." He quirked a smile before looking across the table at Andre. "You guys need any help around the apartment? I can spend the rest of the day here, if you guys don't mind?"

"Of course we don't mind," Andre reassured him.

"Cool," Clint said, smiling again.

"We don't really have any work for you to do, though," Steve said. "But it has been a while since we had a movie marathon. TMC has one going today, I think."

"All those westerns?" Matt asked, having fond memories. They'd watched a lot of those on boring Saturdays because they were easy to add descriptive captions to. "Or do they finally allow colored movies on there?"

"I dunno," Clint answered, smiling a little. "But I wouldn't be able to tell you the difference, anyway," he said, half-shrugging. I'll text you if anything with John Wayne comes on?"

It didn't really matter to him either if the movies were in color or not, but that was an easy way to determine the type of acting in them. "Yeah, sounds good. He's always a classic."

"Sweet," Clint said, grabbing his fork so he could dig into breakfast - finally. "Jeez, dad, these pancakes are top notch. None of that from a box stuff."

"Thank you," Steve said, smiling proudly at his family over the table.

"Best meal I've had today," Matt agreed, teasing. For all that he and Clint gave each other crap, they really did have awesome dads and he wouldn't change anything.
