immediately following their catfight Liam goes to lick his wounds and Shatterstar insists he go to the medlab
Slinking back to his room, Liam wasn't sure if he wanted to be alone to lick his wounds or if he wanted a second set of eyes from his suitemate. Actually no, he definitely wanted to be alone. And to have that second set of eyes. Ugh. Opposites.
Entering the room, he headed straight to the bathroom and carefully pulled his shirt off, his torso already coloring with bruises across this stomach and reddening scratches on his sides. "Oh, man," he moaned, the pain was real.
The moan of pain had Shatterstar appear at the doorway and he frowned at the bruising across Liam's torso, and the little scratches too. "You look terrible." He announced, but didn't approach closer so as not to crowd Liam. "Who were you training with?"
"No one," he muttered, turning this way and that in the mirror, "Sharon attacked me when I went in the Rec Room," he growled lowly in the back of his throat. "Do you know how to tell if ribs are broken?" he pressed tenderly against one side as pain shot up.
"...Let me feel," Shatterstar said, entering the bathroom to get a better look at the wounds Liam had sustained, anger at Sharon blooming in his chest. "Why were you two fighting?" he asked as his hands hovered over Liam's torso, silently asking permission before he touched. The cuts looked worse than they would be able to tend to on their own...
Raising his arms to give Shatterstar space, Liam shrugged, "You know she fake-ate Milton and upset Match, right? As a prank?" that's what she called it anyways, "I caught her in a purrito and tossed her in the pool for it. Then I found from the new guy that she wants to undress him and shove her hands in his chest cavity... his powers are freaky. But yeah, he was clearly super bothered by her. So I saw her in the Rec Room and before I could do or say anything, she attacked. She's delulu."
"You shouldn't use that word," Shatterstar said on reflex as he pressed on Liam's ribs. They didn't feel broken to him, but he was also no doctor. The bruising there didn't feel good either. He checked the other side, but it didn't feel as bad. "But yeah, none of that is okay. She knows we do not fight without consent here." He found himself so angry with her for attacking Liam, even if maybe dunking someone in water wasn't a good thing to do. But he would not stand for his friends attacking each other. Xavier's was not a dog fight. He had never had a friend, let alone a group of friends, long enough to be truly angry with them before.
"How does that feel?"
The entire reason he'd tossed her in was because it was tradition, but also, it wasn't fighting. Not in the traditional sense. He hissed tensing, which didn't help, "Like I lost a fight," he admitted, "First time in one. And I lost."
"Most people lose their first fight," Shatterstar consoled. "Even I lost my first fight." Of course, he had been much, much younger than Liam then, but that wasn't the point. He tried to keep his anger out of his voice, but he wasn't sure it was working. But he hoped Liam knew that the anger was, mostly, not at him. He pressed on the tensed rib and made a sound in the back of his throat.
"There's something wrong, I think. You should go to the medlab."
He hadn't had a chance of winning and he'd known that even as he'd refused to give up. He'd tried. Groaning, he reached to put his shirt back on, "Don't wanna," he half pouted even as he knew he was gonna.
Shatterstar didn't even give the younger boy a chance to argue more, instead lifting Liam and throwing him over his shoulder, not being as careful of the bruising as maybe he should have. "No choice," he said as he started to carry Liam out the door.
"I can walk!" Liam protested, kicking at Star to let him down and tail thrashing. At least it wasn't bridal style?
"I don't trust you," Shatterstar said in reply to Liam's protests.
He was still protesting that he could walk as they entered the medlab and found the closest human. "Will you put me down?" Liam demanded.
Shatterstar dumped Liam in front of the man, though he tried to do it gently. "Something's wrong with his ribs, I think," he told Stephen, speaking over Liam's head like he didn't trust Liam to say what was wrong (he didn't).
Stephen blinked for several long moments before jumping into action. "Okay, what kind of injury is this? Can you give me some background? And is it just your ribs? Also, I'm not an actual doctor but I am a med student and if the rib injury is serious I'm going to have to call in either Doctor Grey or Doctor Voght, okay?"
"I'm fine," Liam huffed with a put-upon sigh that turned into a wince, "but yes, my ribs," he was already turning various shades of bruised and he knew it was likely to get worse. "And scratches. I got in a fight. Yes, people already know, you don't have to go run and tell everyone."
Eyebrows rising, Stephen reached for the cart he'd been using to restock the rooms and pulled out a box of Bandaids. "Well, I can help disinfect the scratches, at least, but if your ribs are bothering you that much, I actually will go ahead and call Doctor Voght so she can do an x-ray because bruised or cracked, you're gonna want some kind of medication so they won't hurt as bad."
Pulling off his shirt with another wince, Liam nodded, "Cat scratches," he clarified, moving to a table in an exam area, though he wasn't entirely sure he could get up to sit on it when he got there. Ugh. This was already annoying.
Stephen pulled his mobile from his pocket to dial Amelia as he swiped some chlorhexidine swabs. A brief conversation later and she'd assured him she was on her way down to the MedLab. Nudging a stool over toward Liam, Stephen laid out all his supplies. "Are any of the scratches bothering you more than the others?"
"Not really? They all hurt. But these look worse?" Liam indicated the ones on his right side. "But I'm breathing? It hurts, but it's not... difficult. Does that make sense?"
"It does," Stephen said, opening one of the swabs. "Do you have any allergies or a healing factor I should know about, before we get started?"
He shook his head. "No healing factor, " that was why Shatterstar had insisted on the medlab. "No allergies to medication. I'm sensitive to air particulates and I got pneumonia once that had to be treated with both human and cat medications."
"Excellent," Stephen said, nodding as he began disinfecting the cuts on Liam's side. "Thank you for that information. I'm sure it's all in your file, but I don't have access to that - not until I'm an actual MD, anyway. These cuts are shallow enough, I don't think they'll need stitches. But Doctor Voght will be able to give you a much better estimation once she gets down here. Seems like you've got a good friend there - would you like him to stay with you while you're here?"
"It's up to him," Liam was annoyed that his suitemate had carried him to the medlab instead of letting him walk. He would have gone. But he also kinda appreciated that Star cared.
"I'll stay," Shatterstar said with a resolute nod. "If that's okay with Liam." He was grateful that Liam's injuries didn't seem bad.
Liam nodded, he didn't mind and if Shatterstar felt better staying, then sure. He was taken a few minutes later to get xrays, but the wait wasn't long to get the results. Fortunately, no broken ribs. "Well, that's something good at least," he commented.
Having finished restocking the few bay rooms they had in the MedLab, Stephen looked up from where he was cutting tubing and smiled. "Great. You get the extra strong Tylenol, per Doctor Voght's instructions. I know she probably covered this with you already, but remember you can double up on Tylenol and Advil, if the pain's that bad. Alternating, of course." Stephen stood up and moved over to the medication dispenser. His login wasn't able to get more than the over the counter meds out and any overrides had to be approved by one of the MDs. Still, it was nice he could finish up and Amelia didn't have to stay to do more than charting.
Stephen handed the bottles to Liam a moment later. "Take care."

Date: 2024-02-02 06:51 am (UTC)Ahaha, oh Shatterstar. He couldn't resist.
(And then immediately fireman-carried someone suspected of broken ribs to the Medlab. That killed me.)
I do like the friendship. Star getting used to the reality that sometimes there's conflict within social circles is a nice touch, although the poor kid really is going through it in this regard.
