Sharon introduces Mel to her husband as promised.

Match watched Sharon greet the brown haired woman — Mel — before motioning to him. He hadn’t known what Sharon wanted to show him, and had been having hang out time with Milton. The leopard gecko was still cradled lovingly in his hand, and he had the sinking realization that he had no idea if she would be fine with it. He should have asked. Oh, oh right. “Match, and, uh, this is Milton,” he raised the gecko up to place a face to the name. “So, uh, you glow too, Cats says?”

“Mel. Nice to meet ya, an’ Milton.” She peered at the gecko in Match’s hands. It was cute, even if she didn’t have much fondness towards reptiles. “Yeah! An’ fly, which is neat. You have fire? That’s awful useful.” More useful than Mel’s own glow at any rate.

"Only for setting houses on fire," Match mumbled with a shrug, before grimacing to himself and rushing to explain, "it was only once and I mean, no one was inside it, well, no, we were inside it, but we got out and then I came here and now I guess I do use it for clearing snow because Madin used to have a contractor and I only have to do the work sometimes. And... and that was a lot of words." The room begun to turn warmer as he spoke before he finally stopped. "Must be cool to fly."

Sharon, someone who had spent the first twenty years of her life interacting with precisely one person, watched Match in awe. The interaction was one of the single most awkward things she had ever seen. Impressed, she turned to Mel.

"Husband must be excused. He does not understand how to interact with opposite sex. Same sex sometimes, also. For this reason I act as his emotional support wife." The older girl turned back to Match and gave him a nod of approval. "This was well done. Foundational knowledge has now been shared, relieving you of future introductions."

"Oh thank god," Match sighed heavily in relief, and the heat he'd been emitting waved slightly, seemingly pulled back into him, "and I have to do it again, with everyone else?"

Looking back at Mel he tried to smile, but it remained touched by the grimace that had started. "Yeah, she's, uh, a cat, and my wife, and I don't know how to... how to talk to people." He mumbled the admittance.

Mel grinned knowingly. The awkwardness of teenage-hood was something she was well acquainted with, living in a house full of them back in Kentucky. “Hey! Fire’s useful for plenty. Warmth, cookin’, light. You’ll do great stranded somewhere.” Realizing that was a strange compliment to give, she switched gears. “So.. how’d you two meet?”

"I set my bed on fire and then two months later I found her naked in it," Match explained with a nod. "So now we're married." Like Moby-Dick.

There was another nod from Sharon. "When first we met I believed him to be a heating element. Always his room is warm, so if I was to be naked this was the most logical choice. Is only proper we be joined in marriage after sharing a bed. But not at the same time. Husband is Homosexual, and I am Cat. Is not that sort of marriage." Sharon regarded the other girl with sly yellow eyes. "You know of matrimony also?"

“Huh, cool.” Mel said, somewhat confused. “Not sure ‘bout marriage but I got some close friends if that’s what you mean.” Or had anyway. New ones to be made in the mansion.

"Close friends can get married," it was a question if the searching look Match gave Sharon was anything to go by.

"Is true," Sharon agreed. "Especially for citizenship, tax purposes, or unrelenting pressure of heteronormative social values. Presumably love also, but is not a necessity." The tall girl's tail gave a fond flick before she turned back to Mel. "Husband is good provider. Milton you have met, but he supports our two sons also: Lightning McQueen and Toothless, both now in foster care. I am housewife only, but is my duty to ensure he is not exploited by his employers. Marriage is a partnership."

Mel nodded. They both were happy, who was she to judge? The pair seemed to balance each other out well. “Makes sense. I guess you’ll hafta introduce me to yer other children sometime.”

"Next visitation this will be so." Sharon turned to give Match an expectant look. "Husband, have you anything to add?"

"We adopted." Match added, as if that was what the conversation needed. "Cats found Toothless and Lightning McQueen, and then I got paid in lizards but my boss said I could only keep one and have to sell the rest."

“Paid in-? How’d you manage that?” What kinda jobs was this kid working? Mel shook her head. Honestly he was very normal compared to what she’d expected of Sharon’s husband. She was assuming Lighting McQueen and Toothless were also animals of some sort. “But yes, would love to meet them.”

"Payment in lizards is accomplished by working for Jessica Jones," Sharon replied darkly. "Is why I now act as his business manager. Do you know she offers no benefits?"

Mel looked at Match with her best disappointed Sam impression. “No benefits? What’s she payin’ ya? You got a contract? Did you have anyone look it over ‘fore you signed it?”

Match blinked at Mel, shuffling a bit back from the woman though he didn't slink down into himself. "Eight dollars an hour plus a tip, and a refill on my unlimited bus pass every month. And we got doctors at home." Not that he utilized these resources.

“Only eight? The minimum wage here has got to be higher.” If Mel had been making seven twenty five in Kentucky no way Match was only making eight in New York.

"I can't, uh, I can't legally work," Match mumbled, looking down to shift his hold on Milton before instead raising his hand to let the gecko onto his shoulder. Easier there, and he didn't run a risk of accidentally hurting him if his hands heated up. "'s complicated."

"Matter shall be revisited when contract is up for renewal," vowed Sharon. She didn't need to read human body language to sense the slight increase in the room temperature. With a decisive flick of her tail, the girl turned to Match.

"Social limit has been reached, husband?"

He opened his mouth, face flushing at the attention before he dropped his eyes. “Yeah, ‘m sorry, Cats. It was, uh, it was nice to meet you, Mel.” He’d begun to shuffle back, towards the exit.

Mel smiled apologetically. “Nice to meet ya too, hon.” Maybe Jay had a point about her coming on a bit strong sometimes. “An’ if ya ever want help on that I’d be happy to.” Nodding at Sharon, she watched the pair leave. They really did seem to be a good match.
