Bobbi and Garrison catch up briefly as they both end up back in Toronto at the same time over the holiday weekend.

"I mean, I have an RCMP review. Don't tell me you just came here for butter chicken poutine." Kane joked on his barstool next to Bobbi's in a pub in the Bloor West Village. She'd texted him while he was updating the Hudsons about his work with the X-Men and they'd split an excellent pizza before ending up at the pub across the street. Kane was drinking lightly; an entirely new experience for her, but he seemed like his old self as he hijacked the jukebox in the bar for more of the Hip, Blue Rodeo, Metric and The Beaches.

She wiped her mouth clean of the aforementioned butter chicken poutine stains with a napkin, rolling her eyes a little in his general direction but the smile on her lips remained in place. "Mmm, not just for that, no, but when in Rome," she said, unable to resist having just a small poutine after the pizza. Thank heavens for an enhanced metabolism.

"My meeting went well enough, more or less a courtesy call to let 'em know I'm back on this side of the pond and active again," she replied, taking a sip of her own pint. "Feels weird to be back here, though... the lovely music aside," she said with a wry grin as the jukebox moved onto the next great tune. "I'm happy to have... it sounds shitty to say 'purpose' because I did do some useful charity work in Europe, but it's not the same as what I'm used to doing. It's good to be back in the saddle."

"Good. After your last DR session, you're fully cleared for anything X-Men related. Save for the Blackbird. That one is Scott's to approve, the big protective baby." Kane said with a not particularly serious look. "Seriously though, it's good to have you back. We're a little understaffed, especially with me on the shelf for now. You and Rogue are big helps."

"It is his bailiwick, I admit," she agreed. "Not something I'm eager to get behind the wheel of anyway... is wheel the right term for a jet like that?" she stopped to consider before shrugging. "Thanks, I appreciate that. Truly." Bobbi clinked her pint glass carefully against his before drinking to that. "I'm glad to offer the help, and it's nice to do it in a different light... if that makes sense," she mused aloud.

"I get it. There's something about being an X-Man that I don't think anyone gets until they do it. I know, maybe it is a bit childish but-" Kane leaned back a bit, considering. "I don't know. It feels like doing the right thing comes easier. Even when it means something incredibly tough or requires sacrifice becomes a much similar choice when you're out there in the leathers. It's just... what you do, eh?"

"Nah, that's not childish at all," she said. "It does give you a certain added confidence, even if I feel a little self-conscious if it's too tight," she added. "But yeah, I do like it, and XFI has been great but it kinda feels like Warren's thing, you know? So getting away from that is kinda nice too... though please don't ever tell him I said that," Bobbi asked.

"Warren and I don't talk a lot, surprisingly. Especially now that Jean and I are dating... yeah, I don't see a couples brunch in our future, Morse."

"Mm, probably not, no, but we'll always have Toronto," she said with another small heft of her glass, taking a long sip from her pint. "How is that going, by the by? ...the dating Jean, I mean, not the not talking to Warren, of course," she clarified with a grin.

"Slow. Careful. But it's worth it." Kane said with a slightly embarrassed smile. "I didn't expect it but... I don't know. It works for me right now, you know?"

"Then that's all that matters, especially if you're both on the same page." She rolled her pint glass around in her hand, wiping some of the condensation off of it with her thumb. "Trust me, I know all about strange dynamics and things that work but are hard to explain. But if you're happy, and so is she, then that's the main thing."

"Yeah, that's how we're playing it for now. Hopefully we don't have some new world ending danger coming at us anytime soon. Dating is complicated enough, eh?"

"Well if that happens now I'm blaming it on your jinxing it," she says, jabbing her poutine covered fork in the air at his general direction before divesting it of its deliciousness.

"Mmph, though you're not wrong, I'm so glad to be out of that scene from what I see everyone else going through... dating apps and websites, all that stuff, not for me. I'm more old fashioned, though I'd be lying I guess if some of Warren's recent, er... exploits hadn't made me consider exploring more myself," she confessed.

"I'm sure you wouldn't have any lack of volunteers." Kane said wryly. "Adrienne and I took... way too many stumbles and mistakes before we finally got together, but once we had, it clicked automatically. With Jean, it's more building things as we go... more deliberate, I guess."

"Flatterer," she said with a chuckle, followed by another pull from her pint. "Time will tell maybe. And yeah, speaking of time, that's the best way to build something long term, I think, something that'll last. Deliberate is an interesting word choice, though... but maybe I'm just too much in detective mode," she admitted. "Or this pint's hitting me harder than usual... damned Canadian alcohol."

"Without my powers, I'm on serious pull back booze-wise." Kane nodded. "Deliberate in the sense that it means more thought... more work. Maybe it is a function of getting older. But it's worth it, you know? It feels more... adult.' He joked.

"Why Garrison Kane, are we maturing?" she said with a smirk, pronouncing it 'ma-toor-ing' on purpose. "If so, can I impose on you to have a conversation with my betrothed, to see if some of that might rub-off onto him?" Bobbi joked back. Mostly. It couldn't hurt, anyway, she figured. "In all seriousness, though, I'm happy for the both of you."

"I can only imagine what Warren is rubbing off on. But-" Kane paused and held up his pint. "Like him, I have the interest of a good woman. That's a wonderful thing and if he doesn't realize that, he needs a kick in the wings."

"I think he knows that," she replied, running a finger along the rim of her pint glass, "buuuut it never hurts to remind him, yeah?" she added with a chuckle. "We're doing fine, though, which is a good thing since we're getting married and all that." Bobbi shot him a wry grin. "But enough of that sentimental crap. In more important news, it's my turn for this round, if you think you can handle it," she lightly teased.

"Crown Royale and hockey. Hard to turn that down." He took a sip and smiled. "Welcome back Morse."

I enjoy seeing Bobbi wanting to establish her own identity now that she and Warren are engaged. One of the great things about their dynamic is that they've always managed to maintain a sense of individual lives and identities while being very much a couple, which is a reality very rarely depicted well in fiction.

(Warren got XFI in the prenup, lol.)

Good to see Garrison actually confiding in someone about his relationship with Jean. The intentional nature of it makes sense not just because it's with a long-time friend and teammate, but because Garrison is at a very different point in his life now - slowly approaching death being only part of it. As Bobbi says, they have ma-toor-ed.

Now give the world a Garrison/Jean and Bobbi/Warren double date, you cowards.
