Jean and Garrison spend a lazy morning sleeping in.

The wolf was a pain. He liked to eat early. He liked to be let out (even though he was free to wander). He liked his people to be around. And when he jumped up on the bed and licked the soles of the redhead's feet, it was about his people.

Not used to the sensation of something wet touching her feet while asleep, Jean bolted awake, pushing her hair out of her eyes to eye the canine. "You're lucky you're cute," she mused with a smirk.

"He gets away with a lot because of that specifically." Kane said, his eyes still closed on the other side of the bed. "Stop being a terror." He directed at the wolf half-heartedly, still foggy from sleep.

"Does he sleep in the bed with you?" Jean said, slipping back down into bed and rolling over to rest her head against his chest. "Seems like he'd be a bed hog."

"Nah, he just wakes me up. Stop, you lunatic." Kane said, patting him away as he stood up in his underwear. They'd had an understanding when she stayed over that they'd share the bed, but they'd decide what happened. Other than some kissing and a bit of exploring, they'd kept things over the clothes. "Leave Jean alone."

Jean groaned, pulling her feet further under the covers, then proceeded to cover them both with the blankets as well.

"Perhaps if we hide, he'll forget we exist."

"Nah, he'll give up in a minute and convince Auntie Colbert or Sefton he's being starved." Kane said as he slipped back under the covers with her, extending her arm under her pillow to support her head.

"Does it ever work?" Jean said, quirking an eyebrow. "Or do they give in purely to keep him from bugging him?"

"Both are big softies secretly, while being ass kicking super-spies. And they don't have any pets, so he gets a free pass." He said, snuggling in a bit. He missed lazy mornings in bed.

"Sounds like they're rubbing off on him. Being sneaky to get what he wants," Jean mused. She yawned.

"Sometimes I think about getting a pet, but then I realize there's a whole mansion full of them that I can borrow."

"The wolf isn't a pet. But I get it. I miss Rooney sometimes, even if he kinda hated me." His hand travelled down the length of her back over her tanktop. "He likes you, you know. Like, a lot."

Jean laughed. "Is someone speaking in third person?" she said. Then tilted her head. "Who's Rooney?"

"Rooney was our cat." He said, with a wince. "Adrienne took him with her when she left." He tried not to talk about Adrienne with her.

Falling silent a moment, Jean nodded. "It's okay. People have pasts. We don't have to ignore them."

"I know but..." Kane said, into her hair. "I don't want things to be harder than they need to be."

"They're not," Jean said, gently putting her hand on his cheek. "I promise. She existed. You loved her. There's nothing wrong with that."

"I appreciate that. Although I'll be honest, your ex being a giant toolbag you can't stand is a lot easier to handle." He joked. "So, what are you thinking for this morning. Morning-ish, actually." He amended as he checked his clock.

Jean stretched her arms above her head, and they poked out from above the covers she had pulled over them. "Hmm...brunch? Maybe take the wolf on a walk around the grounds? There's this spot near the quarry that usually blooms with wildflowers. I'm curious if they've started yet."

"A picnic? How positively classic of you, Ms. Grey." Kane said with a smile. "I'll make the sandwiches and bring the wolf. You're on salad duty and finding some kind of wicker basket and a red checked blanket. If we end up in Pleasantville, it is your fault." He was happy with the idea, finally, if reluctantly, tossing off the blanket and getting up.

Jean grinned. "I'll take that chance," she said, staring at the way his muscles rippled across his back as he strolled into the bathroom.

Not a bad way to start a day. Not bad at all.

I appreciate seeing that this relationship is progressing at a slow, comfortable pace; both Garrison but especially Jean have a somewhat traumatic past related to physical intimacy (with each other, no less), and so the fact they're going very slow in this regard feels quite natural and considered.

"You're lucky you're cute," she mused with a smirk.

A line for all pets everywhere.

I really enjoyed the casual tone here. Garrison and Jean are moving slowly forward, together, while we can see the appeal each holds for each other as they figure out their relationship.
