Mel's secret is out to all her siblings, and there's mixed reactions.

“Paige! Have you seen my phone?”

Mel was tearing through the suite, furiously searching for it. Not anywhere in her room, not between the couch cushions, not in the refrigerator. She dumped her bag out on the counter and rifled through the piles of receipts and lipgloss as she called out to her sister.

“I don’t think so.” Paige walked over to the counter, looking at the pile of stuff Mel had dumped out. “Did you check your room?” As Mel moved the things from her bag around, a small piece of paper fell onto the floor. Paige bent over to grab it in case it was important to Mel. Picking it up revealed the photo on the other side of the paper.

“Mel, where did you get this?” Holding up the picture of Jono, Paige furrowed her brow. She knew they hadn’t hid any photos anywhere Mel spent time and Jono had kept the pile of unused photos in his room.

“What?” Looking up from her search, Mel froze. How the hell did that get in there? They had been all over Warren’s place - a girl couldn’t even get laid in peace - but she hadn’t taken any. “Um, dunno.”

Paige noticed some glue on the back of the photo, telling her everything about where the photo had come from. “Did you get lost at Sam’s office or something? Bump into someone?”

Mel, the best at being chill and not giving things away, nodded nonchalantly. “Yeah, I was there. Why would that be at his work though?”

"Well, we hid a bunch in his boss's office...but why would you have been in there?" Paige stared at the photo, trying to figure out why Mel would have been near any of the hiding places for them. Then again, Warren had something about meeting Mel while looking for underwear...oh, fuck. "MELODY GUTHRIE OH MY GOD!"

Aw hell. Why was she so godawful at hiding things?

“Um.. I gotta go. Er- work.” Mel knew her attempt at escape was futile, but she eyed the door all the same.

“What did he say to you? Did he coerce you? Are you ok??” Paige’s mind was reeling so fast she didn’t realize how loud she was getting. “We need to go talk with Sam. And Jay.” Warren was their boss, they should know about this, too. She reached out and grabbed Mel’s arm to take her to the suite next door.

Letting herself be dragged, Mel sighed. “No, he didn’t coerce me. Yes, m’fine. No, we really don’t, they already know.” It was practiced, which lent to the fact that she had had this conversation previously.

Paige paused. “What do you mean they already know??” Whirling around, she threw open the door to Sam and Jay’s room. “SAMUEL! JOSHUA! WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON?”

Sam nearly turned to Jay to make fun of him for being 'Joshua'-d, but he knew that tone in Paige's voice and was not fond of it being directed at him and not Jeb. Futilely he looked for something to hide under and then steeled himself for what was to come.

"Uh....." Sam replied. "The Star Trek book I'm readin' is real gay?"

Paige crossed her arms. “You knew about your boss havin’ sex with Mel?” Why hadn’t anyone told her? She could have hidden worse things than photos around Warren’s office and apartment.

Sam looked to Mel as if to indicate that she blew it. "Uh....yes. And I talked to Mel about it and threw up on Warren about it."

Mel gave him a look that said ‘It ain’t my fault she’s perceptive!’.

“You threw up?” So that’s what Warren had been complaining about on the journals. She shook her head and attempted to wiggle out of Paige’s hold. “Cool, we’re all caught up. No need to discuss any further.”

Paige couldn’t believe this. “Is no one else concerned about the man who’s older than Mama creepin’ on our little sister??” What was it about this place that made her siblings go for extremely older men?

"Mel's old enough to make her own mistakes," Jay said, though the sour look on his face said enough of what he thought of those mistakes. "Wait... Mel, are you still seein' him?"

“…. Among other people.” It was said guiltily. Sure, she hadn’t promised anything, but she could feel the disappointment radiating from him.

"Melody Grace!"

Paige pinched the bridge of her nose. “Please tell me that the others are age appropriate. And that Worthington knows about it.”

Rolling her eyes, Mel said, “Yes they are, but it ain’t any of his business who else I see. I use protection for fucks sake- ain’t pregnant, ain’t got the clap. It really ain’t any of y’all’s either!” There were plenty of people in the DX around her age, thank you very much, but her sex life really was not their business.

“That’s Sam’s boss! What if he gets mad about you seein’ other people and takes it out on him?” Paige wasn’t trying to be a bitch, even though she could tell she was coming off as one, but she was worried about Mel.

Sam sighed. "First, I'd like to point out that I didn't say shit to nobody. Second, you in fact did make it Jay and I's business when you chose to sleep with the man who writes our paychecks. For fuck's sake Mel, you were raised in a union, you oughta know better than to sleep with a man who brags about 'not doin' ethics'. Especially when he controls your siblings' paychecks!"

"We ain't-" Jay cut himself off looking at Paige. "Well I ain't mad anyway. And I know Warren better'n Sam and Paige and he probably don't think of you sleeping with other people at all but well. I just want you to be usin' your head."

Jesus Christ. Might as well go and make her own scarlet letter. If her siblings’ goal was to make sure she never told them anything again, they were succeeding. Mel wrestled her arm out of Paige’s grip finally and closed in on herself. “Y’all know how many people he hooks up with? It ain’t my business but I have an idea. He truly does not care about any of that. He’s…” Mel would consider Warren a friend. He was somehow so completely removed from all her problems that he made a great listener. “But… if it’ll make y’all feel better I’ll stop seein’ him like that. I’ll text him as soon as I find my phone.” Anything to avoid a repeat of this conversation, even if it meant she’d have to find another billionaire mutant to have escapism sex with.

"You don't gotta do that," Jay said firmly, glaring at Sam and Paige in Mel's defense. He trusted Mel and he didn't distrust Warren. He might not like the fact they were sleeping together, but he didn't have to like it either. He, Paige, and Sam had said their piece now.

“It’s not-“ Paige took a deep breath and tried to organize her thoughts. “I’m not mad at you, I just don’t trust him.” Best to stop there before things really started to heat up.

Mel didn’t believe that for a second. Paige was obviously mad, everyone was. She might as well ask Mama to let her move back home at this point. Tugging at a piece of her hair, Mel said “I do, an’ I wish that would be enough for y’all.”

"I already told you." Sam said, as calmly as possible. "You know I hate 'im. But you're allowed to do whatever you want forever so long as yer safe about it and happy. I don't have to like yer decision to support you in it. Whatever you wanna do 'bout it, you let me know and I'll be in yer corner."

Even if he'd be internally kicking and screaming the whole way there.

“Okay, great. Thank you Sam. If anyone’s got more scoldin’ in them, get it out now cause I ain’t talkin’ ‘bout this again.”

“As long as you’re bein’ safe. Come on,” Paige sighed. “Let’s go find your phone.”

There's something wonderful about Mel being the one to accidentally spill the beans. Also great to see the Jono photos playing into it — I love it when logs mesh together. A well choreographed set of deductions by Paige here.

"Uh....." Sam replied. "The Star Trek book I'm readin' is real gay?"
Oh, Sam. That hardly narrows it down.

Mel gave him a look that said ‘It ain’t my fault she’s perceptive!’.
I absolutely love this sibling energy.

I just love seeing this family get ALL up in each other's business lmao - they really feel like siblings, and you get the chaotic dynamic of this kind of discussion across well, which is hard in a group log like this.
