Jono, Ashley, and Mel find Emily.
Not too far away from the drama, but not exactly in sound distance either Emily had sat down on a small stone bench and pulled her legs up to wrap her arms around them. She hadn’t wanted to move any further once she’d found this small, seemingly safe, space within an endless maze of dead ends and turns that just led her to more maze.
She figured if this place was somewhere that could be reached by others, they’d be along to rescue her eventually. If not, she supposed she’d figure something out eventually. Maybe she could burn her way through?
Mel walked ahead of Jono and Ashley, letting the pair confide in each other without her there to sour Jono’s mood even further. She was more focused on trying to find either A) a way out of here or B) the rest of their friends. They’d entered a maze of sorts, and there was no rhyme or reason to it.
Emily’s red hair was excellent for visibility, and it’s what Mel noticed first as she called out to the girl curled up ahead of them, picking up her pace. “Emily? Hon is that you?”
The second thing that came into view as she jogged closer was a tall, thin figure lurking behind the bench. Mel snapped into action before she could even process it. One second her feet were on the ground and the makeshift spear in her hand, the next she was soaring over Emily and plunging it into the things chest.
The flare of bright fire that Emily’s hair turned gave a physical indication of her reaction to sudden violence so close, and individual strands floated outward, sparks snapping at the ends as she scrambled upwards and away from whatever it was Mel was currently doing to whatever that thing was.
“I, I, oh God,”
Jono approached Emily as gently as possible crouching down in front of her and holding out a hand to pull her up. "Come on kid, up we go. You're alright. Let's get you out of here, yeah?"
Emily let him pull her up as she clung to his hand like a life raft in a stormy sea. She was so beyond stressed right now and all of it was just, a lot.
The creature in question burst into a pile of viscera as it was speared, and Mel tried not to gag as the smell of scrambled eggs filled the air. She floated there stunned for a moment, looking down at the remnants.
Snapping out of whatever was going through her head, Mel turned to the group, and Emily specifically, a contrite expression on her face. She spoke like one might to a frightened animal. “Sorry ‘bout that sweetheart. Are you okay?”
“I am not,” Emily noted softly with a shake of her head but she tried a brave smile on for size to show Mel it wasn’t her that was the issue. “Can we just get out of here?”
"Can those things die in a less gross way?" Ashley grumbled. She gave Emily a careful once-over look - she was a kid, even if she wasn't that much younger than the rest of them but the flat affect to her voice was concerning. "No sprains, bruises or head injuries, right?" She held a finger in front of the younger girls' face and moved it back and forth. "Eyes look normal, okay, it's the freaked out not okay, not the head injury one. Okay, everybody up and at'em."
Liam and Shatterstar find Madin after their accidental escape.
The feeling he'd had at the VR expo thing where they'd gotten kidnapped and put through video games was nothing compared to the not- right feeling he had now. His tail and ears were both poofy and if he'd had fur in between, it likely would be, too. Nothing felt right, nothing liked right nothing even smelled right.
Then he tripped over a body.
Shatterstar had been kneeling, doubled over and heaving from the effort of using his powers so precisely and through such a small channel. He'd only just been dragged out of his nightmare, tear tracks half on his face. He startled when he was tripped over, ears still ringing but....
"Liam?"
"Shat!" Liam was so glad to have found someone, "You okay?" Okay first, where later. Find the others. He sniffed, "You smell like sick," but he wasn't sure if it was Shatterstar or wherever they were.
"Probably the vomit and creature on me," Shatterstar said, trying to be glib for Liam's sake. He dragged himself to his feet. "We should... We should keep moving," he said, not wanting Liam to get caught in some sort of nightmare like the one he had been in.
Madin had been wandering aimlessly for... a while. Everything was fucked. The light, the trees, the noises in the distance. They'd been crying.
They turned their head at the sound of more footsteps crunching in the brush. They should have stayed. They should have stayed. God, they were such a fucking idiot. Such a stupid fuck up.
Orange. It stood out in the muted light. Everything not immediately beside them faded into illegibility but... "Liam? Shatterstar?"
"Madin!" Shatterstar said in a rare show of emotional relief. It was so good to find someone else- someone who could protect themselves and help him protect Liam. He held out his hand that wasn't still covered in Slender goop. "We've got to go."
Madin blinked at him. "There's no point. We're not getting out of here. We never should have... There's no point." They made no effort to move.
"Not with that attitude we're not," Liam agreed, "So why don't we just leave you here? Cause I'm getting out," he wasn't really planning to leave Madin, but he couldn't exactly force them either.
Resisting seemed too hard right now - the argument was impossible. "Fine," Madin said, dullly. Following Liam and Shatterstar was apparently what was going down.
Shatterstar took Madin, gently, by the wrist. "We can win. We can escape. I escaped. You can escape." He looked to Liam before adding lowly. "And we have to have our blades ready to protect Liam. And myself. I am still dizzy and ill." To Madin, it was okay to admit weakness.
Madin nodded. "Okay," they said softly. "I can do that." It was only mostly a lie.
