BACKDATED TO AUG 16 Sharon and Shatterstar come to an agreement to trade lessons on skills they are learning.
As usual, Sharon didn't bother knocking before she entered Shatterstar and Liam's suite. They both knew what a standing invitation entailed with Sharon; if there was something they didn't want her to see they should be doing it in their rooms with their doors locked. Secure in this knowledge, the tall girl made a direct bee-line for Liam's room without even glancing around.
"Sharon. You are girl shaped today," Shatterstar said in observation from where he had his cataloguing set up on the floor of the living area.
"Yes." Sharon disappeared briefly into Liam's room, then emerged with a giant stuffed tiger in her arms.
"This is mine," she declared, satisfied she had accomplished her goal. The girl raised the toy's cheek to her own and nuzzled it. "It was a loan only. Now that Liam is better it is mine again. You have taken good care of him."
"You as well." Shatterstar moved to stand from his project. He itched for a fight. He itched to be able to protect Sharon and Liam. And everyone. But he couldn't always be with them... "Sharon. I have an idea."
Sharon raised her face from the toy. "Idea?"
"I would like to teach you how to fight when you are girl-shaped."
Sharon blinked. The girl studied him with her large, yellow eyes.
"Yes," she said after a moment of consideration, "this is acceptable. Peer instruction, I am told this is healthy." She did not deign to admit it was less mortifying to work with Shatterstar than renege on her repeated insistence that she didn't need Kyle's training. She knew she would need to do that, too, but she didn't have to be quick about it.
Shatterstar nodded, pleased. He may not always be able to protect his friends, but he could give them the tools to be able to protect themselves. He could make sure Sharon wouldn't be caught useless again. "You need to make sure you are strong as a girl too."
The girl's face twisted in a scowl of distaste. "I am told this. Your swordsmanship, this I have seen. You have knowledge of hand-to-hand also? Weapons are not for me." Her teeth flashed. "I will not rely upon anything that can be taken from me."
Shatterstar scowled a little but nodded. "Enough to teach you the basics. Kane says I am still learning how to do it better. But I have enough to teach you for emergencies. You should ask him for more."
"I work with who I please," was the older girl's haughty reply, although she softened at his scowl. "You it pleases me to work with. An equal exchange is preferred. There is something I may help you with in return? Some skill that yet eludes you?"
"I'm good at most everything I do," Shatterstar responded with his own haughtiness, despite having admitted to his own failings. But now it felt like Sharon was challenging him, and he wouldn't stand for that. But... "I will accept any lessons you have for me, however."
This stumped her for a moment. Then she brightened.
"Shapeshifting," Sharon declared. Her hands kneaded the toy in her grip in excitement. "I have been taught how one may change shape with cosmetics alone. The contours of the face, even the cast of the expression. I may teach you this."
Calling makeup shapeshifting... He liked that. He did simple makeup sometimes to emphasize his features (mostly blackening his birthmark) but never tried to change them before. This could be very useful. Shatterstar nodded before holding out his hand to shake on it.
"I accept."
