Alani finally appears before Angelo to ask about how X-Corps had been run.

There was a polite knock before Alani opened the door to Angelo’s office, looking a little tanner since she’d left the mansion for the summer. A smile instantly spread across her face as she gave a slight wave and closed the door behind her. “Been a while since I’ve been in here,” she laughed brightly at the older man, “how’ve you been?”

That smile was contagious, and he waved briefly back. "Been well! And you look it too."

“Needed the sun,” she joked with a wink. For a moment after she sat that she seemed lost in thought before she reached into her bag to pull out a notebook and red pen. The page she flipped had notes scribbled in pencil. “So, what was X-Corps like, ya know, in the other universe?”

Angelo sat back. "Where to start? It was a humanitarian organization, international but in America too."

"Like UNICEF for mutants, right? Did you guys partner with local groups, internationally or, I mean, even here, in America?" She paused, tapping her pen against the page. "Damn, there was something else on the tip of my tongue and it's gone now."

"We did when it came up, yeah", he said with a nod. "Kind of an as and when thing, wherever we were."

“Did you preemptively research organizations, or was that something that was looked into when something happened? What I mean is, how much work would we be expected to do, if we picked it back up?” The question tilted up as she flashed him a smile.

“If we…?” He sat back, a broad smile slowly spreading. “Well now. We’d definitely want to research local allies if we had time.”

“Right, and I know, I know ‘if’ could be a big word there,” the amused tone continued, as Alani wrote something down, “but, what do we have to lose? Disaster response quick research is perfectly respectable…” As she trailed off, her pen stopped, as something occurred to her.

“Was there preemptive watch? What I mean, when information is available before a disaster that shows red flags of being a possibility? Of course speculation isn’t always correct- And I am thinking out loud, sorry, back on track, do you still have any of your old contacts?”

"We didn't usually get much warning of disasters, natural or otherwise", Angelo noted. "Yeah, I've tried to keep in touch with as many as I can, every so often."

“Yeah, I thought as much, wishful thinking gets me again,” her pen tapped against the page in thought. "Ya up to going to check on them and maybe see if there's any funds or stuff of the like they could maybe use help with. Check in, make better friends, ya know, if we do X-Corps?"

Angelo grinned. "I think that would be a pretty good thing to do. You want to go with?"

“Yes,” Alani’s response was as immediate as the smile that had appeared on her face at the offer. “When you go, I mean. I’ve been talking to some of my nonprofit friends about grant applications and distributions, so I’m looking at a busy coupla days in the future. But please, please, please let me know when?”

"You got it", he said easily. "I could probably start pretty soon, with the local ones."

“Local communities are very important,” she replied sagely.

“I have to get to a training, but if you end up meeting them, let me know and if possible I’ll drop everything to join.”

"You'll be the first to know", Angelo promised. "Give me a week or two to set stuff up, and then I'll call you."
