Back in her human form, Sharon pays Liam a visit. With fishes.
Backdated to August 13th.
The sushi had been arranged on a tray with the artfulness of someone who'd grown up with a parent who'd made up for a lack of social opportunities with good housekeeping. Uniquely for the last few weeks, Sharon was presenting it in human form.
"Liam. I have brought fishes."
"Fish?" he stopped the lathe, turning to look, "Shoes, Sharon!" he added automatically, especially since she was in human form. "Welcome back."
"Yes. Once more I submit to the tyranny of human form." Sharon, who was in fact wearing close-toed shoes for the occasion, slipped into the shop. "Your knee, this is better?"
Standing, Liam nodded, "It's getting better, I can bend it some without pain and stuff," he'd even gotten downgraded from one of those full leg braces that were a complete pain to a smaller brace that let him have limited movement. He still needed crutches, but he could put a small amount of weight off the joint which made things like simply standing while brushing his teeth easier. It was the small things that improved by leaps and bounds as his knee improved, "Human form isn't that bad though. Don't tell anyone, but I can do flips and stuff even with my knee jacked up."
"We are Cat. We are better than most people." Sharon raised her free arm to show Liam her unblemished skin, then touched the side of her face that had been slashed. "Human form is convenient in one way only. To change with acute injuries, this is not good, but when healing is nearly complete the traces disappear. No scars remain. When I change back the fur of my other form has regrown also. This is interesting." She lowered her arm and thrust the tray at him. "You will eat your fishes, or they shall become mine."
Taking the tray, he hobbled to a nearby bench to set it down so he could eat it, "Well, aren't you special, healing all pretty?" he commented, popping a piece of sushi in his mouth with a couple very unclean fingers. "I'm glad you're doing better. I like you more when you can talk."
"I do not always wish to speak. I think this experience is beyond Kitten's understanding." Sharon joined him on the bench and smoothed her dress beneath her thighs in a strangely ladylike manner, just as she'd observed from Felicia. The older girl's teeth worked gently against her lower lip before she continued.
"I am glad Liam is better also. Is my fault. I am sorry I could not protect you better."
Was it though? Liam just shrugged, "I get it. Kinda. When I don't wanna talk so much, I come work in here. But I usually want to talk to you," if they were fighting it was different, "You've gone a long time without talking for a lot of reasons. I haven't."
He chewed another round of sushi, nudging a piece towards Sharon, "It's not your job to protect me. We protect each other. And we're both learning how to do it better."
"To me you will always be Kitten. As the younger, this is your fate." Relieved, Sharon plucked the proffered fish from the platter and popped the entire thing into her mouth.
"But yes," she continued after a moment, licking her fingers, "We will learn to be better. Prepared. Then many shall fear us."
"What if I get bigger than you?" he asked, amused. He was still skinny, but he had finally hit the growth spurt everyone kept promising when he was younger. "I'm pretty sure we're the same height now."
"Such pleasant dreams Kitten has," was Sharon's smug reply from her additional two inches of height, but the headbutt she gave Liam's cheek was affectionate. He was right: it was better when she talked to him. If only because teasing was so much easier with words.
