Homines Verendi - Strategy
Sep. 23rd, 2024 04:59 pmAnd the final set of plans is set into motion. Here Hope can at least stick close to home.
"And on to the next..." Hope tiredly rested her head on Sue's shoulder as she finished scanning the documents in front of her. "Hopefully this one will be slightly less complicated than the others. "Do you have all the details about the proposed technologies clear?"
The younger blonde slipped her arm around Hope's shoulders as she nodded the fingers of her free hand sliding over her tablet as she reviewed the data they'd obtained. "Yeah, it's nothing too revolutionary or anything. Same tech, just put together differently."
“That doesn’t mean it isn’t effective,” said Emma. “I understand there might be a psi blocker in the mix they’re using?”
"From what I have seen, there very well might be." Hope reached over, pulling out a particular document and looking it over before passing it over to Ms. Frost. "I am no engineer, but what I understand from Sue is that they have mostly been adapting the designs for law enforcement use. And conveniently this also matches the bill they have been helping to sponsor."
“Well, that’s something I definitely don’t approve of,” said Emma, tapping a fingernail on the table in thought. “Not that I can’t get around most psi blockers, but just,” she waved a hand somewhat airily, “general nosy telepathic principles.” She frowned slightly. “And a bill. They really are doing a fairly broad sweep of tactics, aren’t they? Do you have any thoughts on how to deal with them?” She raised an eyebrow at Hope. “Dot points? Project plan? Gantt chart?” Emma let a small grin flit across her face.
Sue started in alarm, looking at her girlfriend askance, "Please tell me you didn't actually make a chart detailing how we're gonna beat these...cause I totally encourage that level of deviousness, but we really need to get you out more if you did." A small smile curled up the corner of her lips as she leaned back gesturing at the documents spread out across the table as her blue eyes met Emma’s. "They've built a trail of dominoes here, but if we take the first domino then nothing's gonna happen. He's gotta show people that he can deliver on what he's promised...and if he can't..."
"That is not explaining very much." Hope quickly scolded her girlfriend. "This think tank is full of many idea's, but they still lack the means to execute them. So on one hand they are looking for investors, with the other hand they are trying to get something from the government as well. Take away their ability to get investors, there you have the first domino Sue was speaking about so elaborately..."
“Investors are… interesting,” said Emma, softly. “If there’s enough hype behind something, there are a lot of unwise people who will throw money at it because it sounds good and they aren’t well enough advised to consider whether the hype is justified. But if you can make people think their money is at real risk… technology gone wrong, or even dangerous to its users. Frost Enterprises has a great deal of influence with investors in the technological innovations they’re looking at. I can certainly deploy some of that influence if you feel that will help take out that domino?”
"That would be a very good start and I believe both Frost Enterprises and Storm Industries are extremely well-positioned to do this. But from looking into this quartet something else has become clear. These friends are tight and draw a lot of support and inspiration from each other. To further neuter the problem, this foursome needs to be broken apart. Alone, on their own, they would simply be a blip on the radar. Kade Kilgore and his family are on shaky ground, Wilhelmina’s family is in hotels, not tech, Maximilian von Katzenelnbogen lacks the funds and being from Angola, Manuel Enrique would first need to build the extensive network that he needs to be truly successful on his own."
"You mean they shore up one another's weaknesses and present a whole that's harder to break down? Their problem is, they're just bound by ideology, which si great on the surface but once a little pressure starts being exerted, they fall apart all the time. It's the best way to break up a board of investors...which is what they are." Sue leaned forward, blue eyes shining with realisation, "They're just like a company's board. We can just treat them like one. We can definitely take away their investors," she nodded at Emma, "but more than that, if we set things up right, we can control what they do after, what they see."
“In terms of what paths they might follow? Or do you mean literally what they see? Because unless their anti-psi technology is far beyond anything I’ve ever seen deployed, then I can do that.” Emma waved a casual hand at the two young women. “Make them see what I want them to see.”
"I do like your idea of controlling what they do after." Hope murmured. "So do you want to bind them to you in some shape or form? If Wihelmina's work interests you, there might lie an opening for you, Ms. Frost."
"The paths to follow," Sue clarified, standing so she could pace up and down next to the table as she tried to arrange her thoughts, "We know they need investors, they've been sniffing around for them, but that means if we control where the money is, or where they think it is at least, we control what they'll do."
“I very much approve of all the work you’ve done here, Hope,” said Emma, leaning forward and scanning the documents again. “But if we’re talking about breaking them apart from each other, I’d rather get up close and personal. I’d say ferret out their dirty little secrets, but if anyone ever decides to compare me to a ferret, I’d make their mind run on one of those hamster wheels for at least the next few months. So,” she smiled up at the younger women, “let’s go with, I’d like to break into their vault of secrets. Have you identified any opportunities for when I could meet them? Preferably somewhere with lots of easily influenced investors around?”
"Yes, actually..." Hope reached over, pulling a folder closer. "Let us see. Hominis Verendi will have a presentation on September 24 in Harrisburg. It looks like Kade Kilgore will be showing something 'big', but the others will be available as well. That is tomorrow actually."
“Can you send the details to Sandrine?” Emma’s personal assistant knew to prioritise any messages from Hope, so she knew it would get to her. “I’ll make sure to find a space in my diary to attend them. Hominis Verendi particularly.” She frowned again. “I don’t want to harp on it, but psi blockers make me itch. Telepathically speaking. I would like to kill that one dead as soon as possible.”
"They'd make a great first target, and if we can kill of that threat early then it makes everything else a little easier by keeping our big gun on the table." Sue tilted her head to the side for a moment before nodding her head, "I'm happy to make them our first target, the deeper the vault we can throw those psi-blockers in the better."
“Then let’s organise a visit,” replied Emma, smiling. “And see about breaking up their little friendship gang.”
"I will get you all the information you need pronto."
