This is a general letter to everyone at the school, more personal letters will be forthcoming.
Anyways...I just wanted to send an update from the great, big land of China to let everyone know that I am doing well and all that jazz. I will be unable to update you all by way of my journal because my aunt and uncle are a tad bit behind with the times, eg. they don't have a computer. I can't really find an internet cafe because they also live way outside any sort of city/town. However they did have those really cool old-type envelopes with the red and blue diagnols on the edges, that was exciting.
On to other things. They still have no idea that I'm a mutant, language skills are going well, and family time is really great. My aunt has all these stories about my dad when they were kids, apparently my personality is a lot like his (moody), and she has stories of my parents, like how they met and their wedding. It's really awesome listening to her tell them, it's almost like having them with me again.
My cousins are cool, but nothing like you guys, I guess that's he consequence of growing up with very old-fashioned parents in a very traditional and old country. The cultural lessons are amazing, their ways of living, religious beliefs and all that jazz blow my mind. I guess I blow them away with my clothes (totally non-traditional, and my American-ness), the way I speak--they are so getting an education in American slang.
It's neat getting to know and meet my family. My dad never talked about his family, and they never kept in touch for some reason. I don't think it would be wise to ask about it, because it my be a touchy subject--who knows. In ways I am very glad to have this experience, but in other ways I wish I didn't. It's a major learning experience for me, but I miss the mansion. You guys are home, and more and more I am realizing that all of you are my family, whether I've known your for a year or only met you in passing before I left. Here I am with people I have a blood connection with, but the connection that I have with all of you is different and stronger.
I've also been thinking a lot about how I acted the past two months and I want to apologize. I cannot wait to come home, and if you want a letter, write me. I already have some letters to you guys in the making.
