Sam convinces Paige to join his latest scheme in the hopes of keeping himself out of family drama....sort of.

Sam knocked gently on Paige's door and waited to be let in before speaking. "Hey, got a question fer ya. Could I pay you to talk to Lucinda about Thanksgiving so I don't gotta?"

“That depends. How much we talkin’?” Paige asked with a shit eating grin as she let him enter her room. There was just enough room for her to sit on the bed while he sat in her desk chair.

"Uh....how much're you askin' cause I just bought plane tickets fer all the kids." Sam smiled awkwardly, rubbing the back of his neck. "I could also throw in not givin' you shit about Jono and doin' all yer meal prep for a month?"

Paige dropped onto her bed. That was more than she had been expecting, he really didn’t want to talk to Lucinda. Not that Paige could blame him. “Yeah, I’ll handle it. What’s another reason for her to be mad at me?”

"Great." Sam visibly relaxed in her chair, nearly boneless. "So I've already told Liz, and worked it out with Lewis and Ray Senior so they've got a ride to the airport- and Clint's family's invited all of us to dinner....though I ain't sure they've realized how many people nine is..."

“You sure you’re ready to expose Clint to all of us?” Paige saw the amount of stress Sam let go of at her agreement. “You sure you’re doin’ alright? You look tired.”

"Elle's been askin' to meet him, and it has been nearly a year." Sam said. "His biggest hurdle is he can't keep their ages straight, offered to give the twins piggy back rides and then looked confused when I told 'im they were twelve."

Paige chuckled at the thought of the twins faces if Clint offered that to them at Thanksgiving. “As long as he’s ready for all’a us. And I noticed you didn’t answer my other question.”

"Work's been hell. I got partnered with Warren to talk to an Evangelical church and now we're investigating a new drug that's possibly bein' used to systematically kill mutants and Clint's been gone fer what feels like ages, and I'm jus' tired" Sam sighed. "It'll cool off soon I hope."

Paige winced in sympathy. “Yeah. Hopefully, the holiday will let you relax a bit. Don’t worry, I’ll handle Lucinda for you. Anything else you need while you’re here?”

“…..so now a bad time to mention I’m makin’ all sorts of shit fer Thanksgiving?” Sam smiled awkwardly.

“Yer cookin’? Thought we were goin’ to Clint’s family.” Maybe she had understood wrong. “You want help?”

Sam’s fave twisted up in horror. “I’m offended you think I’d show up someone’s house empty handed - ain’t you ever listened to Mamaw? But now Paige- you know I think the world of ya and that I know yer a genius and all but it’ll be a cold day in hell before I let you help me cook for folks I’m tryin to impress.”

“Sammy, there’s a big difference between makin’ “all sorts of shit” and not showing up empty handed.” Paige screwed her face up in return. “And I’ll have you know I made Mac n cheese successfully the other day.”

“With a roux and cheese you grated yerself?” Sam asked with a raised eyebrow. “And I’m bringin’ the whole family- that’s a lot of extra people Paige. I oughta being at least two sides and a dessert.”

“No, I bought shredded cheese.” It wasn’t exactly Memaw’s recipe but it had been edible. “Might as well bring a whole Turkey while yer at it.”

“That would just be insulting.” Sam looked offended on Clint’s dads’ behalf. “Ain’t you learned manners yet?”

“Oh, excuse me. Two side dishes and a dessert is completely reasonable. Anyone would show up with that much food.” Paige reached out and lightly hit him with her foot.

"There are so many of us Paige!" Sam protested, gently kicking her back as he stuck out his tongue. "I'm jus' bein' polite! Somethin' the likes a you wouldn't know 'bout."
