Operation: We'll Always Have Paris - Log 7
Jan. 5th, 2025 08:27 pmHope and Sue head to the security office to try and raise the computer controlled lockdown.
The route to the main security room was direct but also well guarded, leaving them to pick their way through smaller antechambers, offices and salons. The oblique route left them ducking the cameras but fortunately, it got them within range of the security room without running into any guards.
"Well, that was fun." Hope frowned before throwing a mischievous look at Sue. "And I did not even get to kiss and flirt with you to distract any haplessly passing guards. Such a pity."
"You know I'm not entirely sure that works in real life," Sue noted with a laugh, "I think we need to test it, you know, for science. Totally a legit experiment, sneaking around where we shouldn't and see if it work." Blue eyes peered around the corner, watching the camera shift before she leaned over to kiss Hope's forehead before sliding smoothly around the corner, "We'll make a criminal of you yet."
"We will keep it in mind for another time." Hope slinked after Sue, ducking away just before the camera shifted. Consulting her mental map of the facility, she continued: "Two paths forward now... either around the corner there and down the long hallway... or we slip through two small conference rooms. I vote for the last one, even though that has a little more lockpicking."
"Don't think I'm not gonna bring this up for next date night," Sue promised as she reached up to her hair, pulling loosen a pair of lockpicks she's hidden there earlier, she was allowed to be a little cliche. "It's almost like you don't trust me to keep you hidden from any cameras," the blonde complained playfully as she knelt to stare at the lock for a moment before she went to work. "Getting the pair of us around any guards would be a little harder though, so the rooms is definitely the best choice. Just make sure to watch the corners, offices like this can sometimes have a camera or sensor hidden away."
"Do not make promises you cannot keep." Hope murmured in reply. "And while you do that, let me do a little scouting. They hardly ever think of the ceilings." Leaning a little against Sue, Hope slipped out of her body and disappeared in the ceiling. Making her way to the next room, she poked her head out, carefully scanning the room. Those first lessons from Scanner and the Archduke, strengthened by working with Sue and Doug for years, had her knowing exactly what to look for. Repeating the process with the second room and hopping back into her body, Hope threw Sue a tiny smirk. "You know you should not say such things. It looks like the next room is equipped with some infra red stuff."
"Oh sweetie, it's cute you think I'm making a promise I can't keep," the blonde muttered as she shifted, feeling Hope roll against her back so she was sure her girlfriend wouldn't slide off and hit the floor. Metal tools shifted against the lock, at the tip of Sue's tongue poked out of the corner of her mouth. "Just...come on you...there you go!" A grimphant grin heralded the door swinging open as the blonde held up a hand, peeking cautiously into the room. before generating a forcefield between them and the sensor. "Forcefields, they hide you, carry things and now, block your body temperature, coming now to a store near you."
"Hmm, maybe they bottle you and market it." Hope murmured, rising and following close behind her girlfriend as they made their way across the room. "I bet you'd fly off the shelves. "Room afterwards has infrared sensors in strange places. Though I am not sure why I went scouting as you can simply make a bubble around us and we can walk straight through. You know, since they also hide us from the camera's?" She sharply eyed the blonde.
"Oh please, like they could afford me." Sue's eyes constantly darted around, checking their path for any obstacles that might trip them up or alert the guards as to their presence. "It's always good to scout," she muttered quietly crouching down a little to avoid the view through a window. "Bubbling is how I used to get around here as a kid, but well it's a lot more stressful to keep it up so we wouldn't be as fast. This way, I don't have to focus quite so much so we can go a little faster."
"It is one thing or the other... We are nearly there and time might be getting urgent. Let's give it one final push so we can complete our task." Hope moved a little closer to Sue, resting a hand on her girlfriend's shoulder to make it easier to create a bubble.
A deep breath before she flicked a finger, the world seemed to shift and flutter around them, as if they were looking out at the world through a soap bubble as Sue reached back to grab Hope's hand, guiding her forward through the office and the far door. Maintaining a close bubble for a short time wasn't hard, but if they didn't get to the computer quickly, she wouldn't be in a state to do much to help break into them.
As they approached the door, Hope slid her free hand in a concealed pocket of her dress. Hand to hand combat was absolutely not her strong suit, but she had other ways to deal with guards. A quick conversation with Marie-Ange had provided her with an epi-pen, only with a strong sedative. Quickly gripping it and orienting it properly, she lashed out as soon as the first guard was within reach.
Sue could feel Hope shifting, lashing out at the closest guard as the blonde slide across the floor on bare feet, appearing like a ghost behind the guard as a forcefield wrapped around his head a strike driving into his neck as the man's eyes rolled up in his head and he slid down to the ground leaving the room clear. "Watch the door for a moment, I got this." Sue's head nodded at the door to the room as she slid into a chair, fingers flashing across the keyboard.
"Very well." Hope nodded as she bent and grabbed the shoulder pieces of the sedated guard, dragging him just a few feet away from the door opening. Shifting around for a moment, she chose a position from which she could survey as much of the hallway as possible, while not being seen herself, a second pen firmly in hand. "So, is it a challenge or just a walk around the park?"
"Oh please, you wound me," there was a laugh in Sue's voice as her fingers danced across the keyboard, code dancing across the screen casting a flickering light on her face. "Hacking into SHIELD or the NSA, that's a challenge, this is a piece of cake...Well almost. I've managed the system, but it looks like someone out there is a little suspicious. They've installed a physical switch which needs to be triggered to end the lockdown. It's almost like they thought that some entrepreneuring hacker like me might sneak in."
"These people are no amateurs... and it makes more sense then just installing another layer that can be hacked. But the others are aware..." Hope glanced out of the hallway. "Alright, almost time to get out of here. Those drugs are not keeping them down forever." She quickly looked over, seeing various screen flicker past almost too fast to read, the glow almost sickly on her face.
Three minutes later her girlfriend looked, nodding firmly. Hope glanced once more outside the room, before returning the nod. "Let's go then."
