Bobbi makes an impromptu visit to the mansion, and finds Amanda, tea, and stimulating conversation, all rolled into one.

Since returning back to the States, Bobbi had mostly spent her free time either at their new apartment or at work. Transitioning to the X-Men had taken some time and she still wasn't 100% used to it - at times she'd find herself heading to the XFI office out of habit before catching herself - and she had spent even less time at the mansion, even though she'd meant to visit some of her old friends.

Today was an exception to the rule, where she'd made it a point to visit and see who she could run into. For fear of jinxing it, Bobbi didn't make any plans or tell anybody that she was coming, partly because she was sure that if she did something or other would come up or go wrong and spoil it. So when she walked inside the house she sighed a relieved sigh and put her hands on her hips as she looked around the foyer.

"...hello?" she said, now realizing the downside of not telling anyone you're coming by; no one was going to be expecting her there. Oops.

A door down the hall opened and a blonde head stuck out. "Um, hello?" came a reply in a broad East London accent - Amanda had been working in the former classroom that now housed the magical library when she'd heard a voice that a) she didn't know and b) sounded definitely unsure. She figured a complete stranger wouldn't have passed through the security, but she decided to take it upon herself to follow up on it.

"Echooooo, echooooo, echoooo..." Bobbi called back, a little fainter with each repetition, before adding, "...sorry, couldn't resist." She walked a bit further inside and turned towards the source of the voice. "Amanda? Is that you?" The voice sounded a little familiar but it'd been a long while since she'd seen or spoken to the other woman to be sure.

There came a chuckle as Amanda came out of the library and into the hallway. "Bobbi? Long time no see."

"Too long for sure," she agreed as she put her arms up in the air and waved at the other woman while closing the distance between the pair. "Hi there! How are you doing? I realized I hadn't made a trip to the mansion since Warren and I hit the ground running coming back, so I figured why not stop by today? And it looks like it's my lucky day," she added with a chuckle.

"You say that now," teased Amanda, folding her arms over her chest and leaning against the doorframe. "You up for a cuppa? I have a pot going in my lair here."

"That sounds amazing... I don't know if I've had a proper cup of tea since moving back here," Bobbi replied, rubbing her hands together in anticipation. "I know we weren't overseas for a super long time, and there's lots of things we didn't adjust to, but tea was definitely my favourite new thing," she explained as she headed for said lair. "It's good to see you," she added with a grin.

The bare bones of the classroom were still there - a simple, square room with a wooden floor. But where there had been desks were several tables with padded chairs, and the rest of the available space was filled with filled bookshelves. A scent of old paper and dead herbs filled the air, and here and there on the shelves were various unsettling items - a skull covered in candle wax, twisted statuettes of ugly-faced creatures, chunks of raw crystal. Altogether, the vibe was certainly on the creepy side. Maybe it was the lighting, which remained muddy, despite the pot lights in the ceiling.

Except for the table Amanda headed to, where a teapot with a decidedly mundane woollen tea cosy on it sat alongside a small carton of milk and a sugar bowl, with a full mug sitting beside an open book. Amanda flipped the book closed as she passed on her way to grab another cup, and gestured Bobbi towards a seat. "Grab a pew. Just don't touch anything. We're still working on the whole magical insulation thing."

"Magical insulation, huh?" Bobbi mused as she took in the surreal surroundings - and obeyed the instructions re: not touching - and made her way to the nearest seat. "No worries on that front, I'm just as magical as I was the last time you saw me... which is to say not in the slightest," she said with a chuckle.

She rolled the sleeves of her sweater up and leaned back against the wooden railing, fidgeting with her hair a little as she watched Amanda move about the room. "So how're things going? Not just with the, uh, magical insulation efforts, but in general?" she inquired.

Amanda chuckled. "Teapot," she replied, then expanded, seeing Bobbi's confusion. "You're as magical as a teapot, so that's my shorthand for someone who has no magical sensitivity at all. But it's not what's coming from you I'm worried about - it's what the stuff in here might leech out. Which is why the no touching. Magical libraries are tricky sometimes." She came back with a clean mug and filled it from the teapot on the table before passing it to Bobbi. "Things are good, actually. Gar's not dying of a magical curse, my students haven't been kidnapped this month and I've been able to actually spend time with my girlfriend that didn't involve stabbing anyone." She paused. "Much. How about you?"

It was Bobbi's turn to chuckle at the stabbing comment. "Well, that's good news on all fronts, especially for those who'd be on the receiving end of your stabbing," she pointed out. "I'm glad to hear it, especially that you're getting to spend time together with your partner." She shrugged while thinking of how best to sum up her own situation. "Things are pretty boring for this little teapot, but I'm not complaining. Working on wedding prep, adjusting to the new team, and to being back on active duty stateside again in general, so I can't really complain."

"You joined the Leather Brigade, didn't you?" Amanda asked, tilting her head. She knew full well who was on which team from the various briefings, debriefings and information exchanges, but she wanted Bobbi to talk about it.

"Guilty as charged," she admitted. "It was time for a change, I guess, and as good an opportunity as any, coming back home and having to relearn things already as it was," Bobbi mused aloud. "And Warren and the others are more than capable of holding down things at XFI, so yeah. Hopefully I'll fit in... into both the uniforms and in general," she joked.

Amanda snorted. "Well, I can't see Warren arguing with the uniform at least. But I s'pose it makes sense, you going to the X-Men. If I'd known you were up for grabs, I would've made a play for the Trenchcoats."

A faint blush crept over her cheeks at the other woman's phrasing, and Bobbi blinked for a second before replying. "Hah, right, he is a fan to be sure," she replied. "Though hopefully we can still work together, from time to time," she added. "Trenchcoats is a cooler name for sure, but shh, don't tell Scott that I said that."

Amanda grinned wickedly, amused to see Bobbi could still blush after being with Warren as long as she had been. "We're always up for some consulting," she replied casually. "If you ever feel the need to step outside the boundaries."

"You know me and boundaries," she said with a lopsided grin. "Er... which is to say, I don't have many. Though I don't know if I'll have much say when it comes to who we can consult, rest assured you'll be at the top of my list," Bobbi advised before taking a long sip from her mug. "After all, us magical teapots have to know where to turn when we need help, right?"

"Well, I meant more you coming along on one of our ops, but yeah, I work both ways." Amanda snorted. "Pun totally intended."
