(Backdated) After Paris, Kevin's mission becomes a waiting game.

Content Warnings: Traumatic Brain Injury & Electrocution.

The primary sound in the room was the soft, steady hum of machinery and the quiet murmur of voices.

Darcy hadn't woken since the events in Paris, and the initial prognosis had been that her brain needed the rest but that the MRI scans themselves looked... well, not great, but in line with the sort of trauma that significant electrocution could cause. She was stable at least, although it'd taken a few days before the staff at Hôpital Pitié-Salpêtrière decided it was safe enough for her to be put on a med-flight to Muir.

They'd arrived safely and she'd been settled into one of the hospital-style rooms with Moira's normal efficiency, and now they were stuck in a waiting game. Scans of her mind showed at least some level of activity and there were no brain bleeds. The obvious physical wounds - the lace fused into the flesh at her hip by the bullet graze and the Lichtenberg figures going from her left hand all the way up her arm and into her hair the worst of them - had been treated. She wouldn't come out of this unscarred, but that was the nature of the job.

What didn't kill you might very well leave painful, permanent reminders.

As Darcy's medical proxy, Kevin had the dubious honor of having to coordinate her medical care and deal with the waiting game. They'd been lucky that a mutant specialist had been consulting at the hospital when she'd arrived, pale and still except for the occasional twitch of her fingers and the blood dripping from her ears. Dr. Castillo had come with them to Muir as well and had contacted a specialist friend to meet them there.

Dr. Yin was a neurologist who focused on people with brain scans outside the standard human scanning parameters. Mutants. Metahumans. Supers. Genii and prodigies that were willing and able to have their brains scanned while doing what they excelled in. And now hers as well.

The four stood in a small circle near the door discussing the latest scans. "The good news is that she hasn't seized again," Yin says once they get to his part of the update. "I'm concerned that the swelling is increasing instead of decreasing. We'll up the treatment for now and monitor it closely. If that doesn't work, she may need a surgical intervention, Mr. Sydney."

"Darcy's mutation deals directly with electricity. You can't look at it in the same framework of a normal person." Kevin said quietly, mimicking what Moira had told him. "And yes, Dr. Yin, I know this isn't new to you, but we may have some resources they didn't cover in med school. The question is... why? Why have the seizures escalated like this? She was hurt when we took her out of the club and to the hospital but seemed... I don't know, more stunned than anything. And now we're in crisis mode. Why?"

"I don't know."

Kevin nodded and tossed his jacket on to the rack as he walked past. "Monitor her signs, let me know if anything spikes. But otherwise..." His mouth twitched. "She'll be awake soon enough and I'm to blame for this. She deserves my face to hit first." He finished, settling down beside the bed.
