Gaia & Laura | Show and Tell
Dec. 14th, 2024 12:52 pmBackdated Gaia tags along with her roomie to experience a day at "high school".
"And this is my locker. We store our books in it. Apparently you can decorate it to give it personality, but I am not 100% sure what that means to an inanimate object." Laura stopped at the locker before putting into the code and opening it, to a plain looking locker.
“Fascinating.” Gaia nodded, blonde wig shifting slightly on her head as she did so. This place had long rows of lockers, with long rows of people standing by them. She hadn’t been around this many in a long time.
Laura pulled out one of the books for her next class as a group of girls came up to them.
"Laura, who is this?" A tall brunette asked.
"This is my roommate Gaia. I brought her for show and tell." Laura said casually closing the locker.
"Oh, Laura..." They hid their amusement and looked at Gaia, "Any friend of Laura is a friend of ours."
“It is good to meet you,” Gaia said. The hair made her stick out less, but the accent would be a dead giveaway. They definitely weren’t supposed to be doing this.
The bell rang, "That is the five minute warning bell. The first class is AP World History, followed by AP English, then P.E., then AP Chemistry. Lunch follows, then Japanese, then Psychology." Laura gave out her full list of classes. "I like the classes after lunch the best." She fixed Gaia's wig a bit. "There."
“Thank you.” The wig was somewhat uncomfortable, but she would survive. “Lead the way then. I look forward to ‘learning’.”

Laura brought over Gaia over to the lunch tables. So far they had made it half the day and no one had said anything. One thing was noticable, people did part like the sea when Laura approached. "Does near the window work for you? Or perhaps near the door?"
It seemed Laura had established a sort of dominance over her peers, Gaia mused. The dynamic was fascinating to observe, though her head was pounding somewhat. The mix of fluorescents and teenage angst was not kind to the senses.
“Window would be preferable. It is quite busy near the entrances.”
Laura nodded and made her way to to the window, a few of the kids stood up and left, leaving the two girls alone. She then handed Gaia a pair of sunglasses, these ones were strawberry shaped. "Here." She said, "I know the look of being overwhelmed by the senses." Laura touched her nose and the pair of headphones around her neck weren't missed. "If it gets too much, we can leave."
“It is appreciated.” Gaia accepted and donned the glasses, disguise now looking thoroughly cartoonish. The darkened lenses took the edge off.
“So this is lunch?” She watched as groups of students conversed together at tables and in standing clusters. A few of Laura’s friends from earlier were making their way towards them. “There are a lot of students in attendance here.”
Nobody had seemed to notice her sudden appearance, and if they did they found it funny enough to not snitch. Teachers were flustered enough in the last week of classes before break that they weren’t paying much attention either.
"Yes. It isn't good. Whoever made these obviously liked to make it bland as possible. Some like to go off campus, but I have been restricted to the campus due to my recent problem with some of the other students. They are the ones that keep their distance and will not bother us." Laura looked away and up at the group of girls sat down around them, already chatting up the a storm. "You can ignore them Gaia if their chatter is too much."
"Rude Laura." One of the girls, named Ava, said with a playful smirk. "Laura acts tough, but she comes to our aid when Madison and her friends corner one of us." Ava pointed at a table across the room where a group of what appeared to be the popular kids were sitting, "Madison is the brunette sitting next to the one holding the football. She is so ick. Laura gave her a black eye a couple of weeks ago."
"I went easy on her," Laura said, opening a can of Pringles from her bag and offering one to Gaia. This time, it was the original flavor.
Gaia accepted with a crunch, peering over at where Ava pointed. “This Madison, why does she not like you? You all are perfectly nice.”
Laura also looked over at Madison, "She has issues." Laura said blankly. "She is mostly just words, but she did try to get physical to demonstrate her "Queen Bee" status, and that is when the black eye happened." Laura looked back at Gaia.
Ava looked at Laura and sighed, "She has been like this since we were all in elementary school. I think her parents spoiled her or something. She believes she should get anything she wants. When Laura refused to fall in line, it sparked resistance in many of us. She is quickly losing her hold over the students as we no longer fear her."
The girl in question apparently felt eyes on her, as she looked over and glared at the group.
Gaia stared right back with interest. She couldn’t feel her emotions from this far, but the general vibe of “I hate you” was received.
“Hm, fascinating.”

The pink haired mutant stepped delicately around a puddle as she walked with Laura, thoroughly tired out from her day at a “school”. It was exhausting. How did normal humans do it every day?
“I would like to join you in your studies of Japanese,” Gaia commented. “It was the most interesting class.”
Laura was the opposite, she was not tired thanks to her mutation, and was ready to get home to do her afternoon run through the forest. "I am glad you also have taken a liking to the Japanese language. There is a place in town near the mansion that offers Japanese cuisine if you care to join me." Laura said, thinking her afternoon run will have to wait. "I am pleased that no one took notice of you. But it does show the lack of awareness others have. It is concerning."
“Indeed. They are very absorbed into their phones in particular. It would be quite easy to infiltrate if one needed to gather information.” It was said casually, but that was definitely what Gaia had been doing. She now had much more to work with about the normal teen.
"Yes. If you like to join again, I am sure we can make this possible." Laura nodded. "Gathering information is best. Especially when we aren't familiar with certain social settings. But not the security. I would like to tell them their flaws, but at the same time I would like for you to join again."
“You ‘graduate’ very soon, yes? Perhaps then you can give them your suggestions.” It wasn’t like Gaia had an excuse to sneak in if Laura wasn’t there anymore. “It would be good to go again if I am able. It gets boring in the mansion.” After so many months she’d just about run out of things to look at within the grounds.
"Yes. There is something called Prom coming up and then graduation." Laura thought about it. "We can start with Salem then. The town has shops, some curious ones as well." She offered the option to Gaia.
“I would like that. It is not so entertaining to venture out alone.” With another she could get into twice the amount of trouble.
