Laura, Gaia, and Liam are enjoying Prom when an uninvited guest appears.

The Prom at this point was in full swing as teens were mingling at tables and on the dance floor. Laura was off to the side watching and eating, the music was less deafening where she stood. "Are you two having fun?" She asked her two dates to the prom, no one told her no when she asked if she could bring two of her closest friends with her.

Liam had actually been to prom once before, in his sophomore year. Prom had been for junior and seniors, but with just over 100 kids at his school, it wasn't uncommon for sophomores or even freshmen to also get invited as dates. This....was different. It was a lot fancier, that was for sure and also, a lot bigger. They had all the lights and DJ and clearly it was catered and well. None of this was really surprising given that this was Westchester, New York and not Machias, Maine. "This is great!" Liam announced with a grin, tail swishing gently. He had a fine sheen of sweat from the dance floor and was currently munching on some cheese and crackers with salami. They clearly had the good stuff.

Gaia was much more reserved than her peers, carefully sipping at a glass of punch as to not spill on her dress. It was pink, of course, to match her hair.

“It is a very compelling affair, yes.” Dancing was not something she showed particular verve for, so the mutant had taken to watching from the side or slightly swaying next to her friends. The room was intoxicating with its swirl of emotions- joy, angst, lust. She did her best to tune them out where she could.

"Then I am glad." Laura smiled at her friends, "I was told that enjoying Prom was part of the experience of high school." She looked back at her peers, "I do not regret a thing." She lifted up her punch to her lips to have a sip.

"The punch is spiked," Liam remarked blandly right as Laura took a sip.

Pausing with her plastic cup halfway, Gaia eyed the liquid suspiciously. She knew what alcohol was from the movie box. Not a single molecule of her being was keen to try it. “Really? It does not taste different.”

"There is nothing in it." Laura said, taking another sip. "The taste and smell, it hasn't been tampered with." She looked up at Gaia. "You are safe." And then looked over at Liam, "Your joke was funny." She then smiled, her smiling had gotten better over the course of the time spent at the mansion.

"And yet, neither of you are laughing. Tell me there's an after party, please," where there would be real alcohol and a lot more.... fun. Well. Fun for him.

“You would be best served in asking Madison about that,” Gaia said, head motioning towards a rather sour looking brunette across the room, surrounded by her gaggle of friends. “She throws many parties, or so I am told.”

Liam followed her gaze, making a face, "Is she the Regina George?"

"She is a coward that hides behind others to fight her battles." Laura shook her head. "I will return." She said promptly but started to head in the direction of the bathrooms that were located outside of the gym.

Gaia took a pointed sip of her punch as she watched her leave. “Perhaps you could show me how to do this ‘dancing’. It is an integral part of prom, is it not?”

"Absolutely!" Liam took her hand to lead her to the dance floor. They were going to have so much fun!

Laura and Kimura have a reunion with Gaia and Liam coming in to help.

"X-23. You're making this less enjoyable than I had hoped. You were so full of spunk the last time we fought." Kimura lunged for Laura, grabbing her jacket, which the teen managed to wiggle out of it. Kimura tossed the coat to the side and charged at Laura.

Laura managed to turn and was hit with Kimura's full force as she was pushed into tables and chairs. The two wrestled for control, with Laura pulling Kimura close before head-butting her hard with a crack. That had Kimura letting go, and Laura managed to fall over on the other side of the table. "Fuck."

The young feral stayed hidden behind the table as the sounds of her two dates filled the air.

Gaia followed behind Liam closely, walking down the hall in search of their friend. It had been too long since she had left for the restroom and they had begun to worry.

Thankfully, having a feral on hand meant it was much easier to track people down.

Emotion hit her hard and fast as they neared the door, causing an involuntary gasp to slip out. Something was very wrong. Gaia stopped and tugged on Liam’s arm, whispering. “Wait.”

"She needs help!" he whispered back, hearing the conflict on the other side. It didn't matter what caused it or that he wasn't a fighter, they had to do something!

It didn’t seem that Liam had any weapons on his person, and Gaia hadn’t had the foresight. She gave Liam a go on then motion with her head.

Springing into action once more, the mutant grabbed an abandoned water bottle from the hall and chucked it into the room with an assist from her TK, metal making a beeline for Laura’s assailant.

Screaming as he ran into the room in the hopes of distracting... whoever was attacking, Liam utilized the fine art of moving over trying to engage in combat. They'd already determined he wasn't a fighter.

The water bottle smacked Kimura from behind, and she looked down to see the makeshift weapon lying at her feet. "What the fuck..." She got defensive as a boy came screaming into the room. "Teenagers." She unholstered her gun, but the pain of two pairs of claws sunk into her back, and she yelled out in pain. She may have been augmented to be more durable, but why couldn't they try to make her more durable against adamantium?

Laura used her strength to move Kimura further into the room as she was taking full advantage of Kimura being distracted but also she didn't want Kimura to shoot at her friends.

The guns flew from her grip by an unknown source, and in a second both Laura and Kimura were sailing out the window. Gaia, who has slunk in behind Liam’s commotion, put all her strength into the shove, grey energy billowing around her.

Laura would be fine. Probably.

Staring out the window, Liam debated going to help Laura or not. On the one hand, he should help. On the other hand, he was pretty sure he would be no help. "The hell is going on?" He muttered.

"I AM FINE!" Laura yelled from outside and gave a thumbs up but hadn't move to stand quite yet.

Doug and Kyle show up to finish it off. Kimura retreats with a bang

Doug burst through the door into the classroom, a collapsible baton already at full extension in his right hand. He took in the scene rapidly, Gaia and Liam looking toward the broken window that it looked like Laura and her attacker had just gone through. Thankfully, the classroom was on the first floor, so while it was a few feet off the ground, it would be an easy jump. He took a moment, sweeping his nanite arm around the edge of the frame to clear broken glass before launching himself through and landing in a roll outside, hearing Kyle hot on his heels.

"Can I have one! Fucking! quiet week!" Kyle had been momentarily slowed by kicking a pair of dress boots off. The one time he wore nice shoes - and he was going to have to come back for those, because they were goddamn expensive. He landed a moment after Doug did - ignoring the roll, and landing in a crouch and taking off on all fours after Kimura.

Liam swiveled at Doug before taking off after Kyle. He wasn't a fighter, that was long since established, but Kyle looked like he was going to eat sometimes face and that was probably a bad idea. For everyone.

The last to exit took her time. The “dads”, as Laura called them, seemed to have the immediate threat covered. She wiped the blood dripping from her nose and went to gather Laura’s coat. Grey energy surrounded Gaia as she floated through the window and landed outside, taking in the scene before her.

Laura rolled away from Kimura, her claws already retracted and the little cuts from going out the window were already healed. She slowly got to her feet and took a step back from Kimura.

Kimura only had a second to get her thoughts together before jumping to her feet. Already backup had arrived and from the looks of it, they weren't on her side. The one on all fours was coming in fast, so all Kimura had time for was to brace herself for another impact. "Fuck." She hissed under her breath.

She didn't have much time to brace. Kyle came in hard and fast, slamming his entire weight, shoulder first into Kimura - she skidded backwards, digging furrows into the grass. His claws pressed into durable skin - and did not break it. Her elbow came down hard on his neck, and he snarled. In a single motion he grabbed her opposite shoulder, stood, and flipped the smaller woman over his back and onto the ground behind him, and spun, only to see her kip back up.

Doug came sailing in hard and fast as she did, not letting her have a moment to regain her equilibrium. His tactical baton came down in an overhand strike against the spot where Kimura's neck met her shoulders...and he watched in dismay as the hardened material bent comically at the point of impact. "Tvoyu mat," he grunted as he circled around, trying to keep Kimura between him and Kyle.

Kimura wince and knew she was out numbered. She pulled out a grenade, pulled the ping, and tossed it. One moment she was there, the next a loud banging sound rang in the area and was gone. Having taken the moment of disorient to run back to her motorbike parked not that far away.

Laura had fallen to the ground to her knees, covering her ears and her eyes were tightly closed.

Gaia was mercifully the farthest when the bang went off. Crunching over glass, she made her way to her friend and crouched a few feet away. The mutant knew better than to accidentally startle her in this moment. “Laura.. Are you alright?”

Laura kept her eyes closed, the ringing in her ears was still loud. She made a painful grunt sound.

Kyle had hit the ground, and curled in on himself, both big hands
clapped around his ears, and uncurled, blinking away the spots from
the flashbang that had gone off practically right under his feet..
"Cypher, I can't hear shit, need you to take point." He was pretty
sure he was too loud, eardrums might've ruptured. "Get my kids the
hell out of here." He pulled himself up to all fours, and shook all
over - and took off after Kimura.

"Goddamit-" Doug called, but the other man was already off at a dead run, which meant he had to do the responsible thing.

"-Your- kids, they're my kids too..." he muttered, perhaps a little louder than he ought to have, since his own ears were still ringing a bit as well.

Liam ignored Doug, fast on Kyle's heels though not as used to chasing scent and following someone as the older man. Plus, now his ears hurt. "Kyle wait!" He called, continuing on anyways.

When you spill ink onto a piece of paper, the letters already written are still there, until the ink saturates the fibre of the paper. Kimura's scent trail did much the same, saturated under clove oil and peppermint and Kyle gave up before the clash of smells overwhelmed him. He stood and shook himself, and swore - "shitfucking motherfuckers". It was not a creative moment of profanity. He crouched to try to get any traces one more time, in time to see Liam sprint his way. "Scent bomb. We're going to get fuck and all from any scent trails."

Immediately, Liam dropped, so his face was near the ground and his tail in the air, trying to sniff. It was a position that looked uncomfortable and likely would be for most people, but Liam was fine as he started walking and sniffing anyways. Kyle might give up because of a scent bomb, but he could do it! Walking in a beeline, he followed a scent into some bushes, emerging out the other side looking like he'd gone through underbrush, but also, brandishing a cellphone. "This phone has her scent all over!" He called, refusing to admit that he'd lost it at the phone.

"Oh fuck yeah." Kyle jogged back, hair - and shirt - and clawed hands - all messy with grass stairs or dirt. "At least we'll get something off that bitch."

"Gimme," Doug told Liam, extending his nanite hand to take hold of the phone - no fingerprints to contaminate whatever Kimura might have left on it. "Let's get everyone home, and once we're all cleaned up, I'll start taking the phone apart and see what we can get." A quick visual check to make sure everyone was there, and then he started heading for the parking lot.
