Melody and Hope encounter each other in the new dimension.

Okay, this was awkward... Hope glanced across the room as various teens gathered in the classroom, ready to plan festivities. Festivities she knew nothing about...

Quickly she glanced around the room, cheerily returning smiles and quick hello's. Finally she caught a familiar face...

Only... how familiar was it?

Mel was in the middle of assembling centerpieces and totally in her element. This was the one thing she could bring over for her counterpart. She grinned at Hope and waved her over, not sure which Hope it was.

It didn’t matter much either way. This Melody Guthrie was friends with everyone.

"Flowers coming together as you'd hoped?" Hope commented tentatively, studying the center piece as casually leaned on the table. "You're good at this...'' She paused a moment before adding: "Good enough to make it to New York one day maybe?" She quickly tapped two fingers on the table.

Mel acknowledged the code with a tap of her own. "Yeah. The fake ones are different to work with, but I think they're coming along alright." The vibrant neons of the 80s didn't weren't found in nature after all. “How’ve ya been doin’?”

"Well, the lighting in that place is terrible and we lack the means to really fix it." Hope replied with a straight face. "And on our other thing, not much luck, I am afraid. How about you?"

“Yeah, ma friends ain’t much fer science projects. M’sure the others have it handled.”

"Any interesting rumors you might have caught though?" Hope accepted the flower from Mel, eyeing the centerpiece critically before sliding the purple flower into place.

“Not really. I feel bad. They’ve gone to all this trouble to get us all here an’ I ain’t got nothin’ t’show fer it ‘cept whispers of it bein’ stolen.” She sighed and started on another arrangement. The organizers happened to be on her cheer team, and they wanted over a dozen done by the end of the period. “M’sure they’ll figure it out though.”

Hope quickly glanced around her, picking up another flower. "I am running into the same issue. 'Hope' picks up a fair bit, but her network is still a little... lacking. Hopefully something will show up soon."

“Yeah. How’re ya likin’ bein’ back in high school?”

A drol smile flashed over Hope's face: "I had forgotten how annoying it was to be in the front row so often or to be the first one to be called upon. The curse of having the last name of Abbott."

Mel nodded commiseratively. “I get that. Somehow I’m even more the baby Guthrie than I am back home. Everyone knows at least one of ‘em before they know me.”

"The more things change, the more they stay the same." Hope agreed before lowering her voice again, picking up the sequateurs and critically eying the piece they were working on. "Do you have any further plans?"

“A math test and cheer practice. Figure I might as well hang out t’help eXcalibur out with stabilizing an’ all that.”

"Just when you thought you'd gotten away from those tests." Hope put down her tools before eyeing the center piece. "I have a French test, but then I need to head back. The Johnson event awaits. I think this might work. What do you think?"

“Looks swell!” Mel nodded. One less she had to finish at any rate. Not that her boss wasn’t skilled in all manner of things. “Jus’ got a few more to finish this period an’ I think they’ll be ready fer the dance. If ya need me back for the event I’m happy to tag along.”

"No, I should be able to manage." Hope quickly shook her head. "I need to get going, but good luck with your math ánd the flowers."
