Paige & Mel | Out to Lunch
Sep. 7th, 2025 05:43 pmPaige and Mel catch up and get lunch.
Paige stood outside the building Mel’s fancy new job had her in nowadays. What was with her siblings getting such big new jobs? Not that she could be too annoyed by it, since it meant she could bother one or another of them when she didn’t feel likemicrowaving cooking a meal. Plus it had been a while since she had spent time with her sister. Time for some sibling bonding.
Out from the revolving glass door stepped Mel, heels clacking on the ground as she made her way over to Paige with a smile. She certainly looked the corporate part - long black trousers, a smart pinstripe button up, usually unruly curls slicked back into a bun. “Hiya Paigey!” Sunglasses were fetched from her rather large purse before she pulled her sister into a hug.
“Hey, Mels! Wow, don't you look smart.” Paige might borrow that button up later. “So, where do you want to go for lunch?”
“Aw, thanks. I try.” She tucked an uncooperative bang behind her ear. Looping her arm in Paige’s, Mel said, “Well, there’s this cute spot just down the block that does a few nice salads. It’s been too hot lately for anything else. Or we could grab sandwiches at the bodega and walk around.”
“Sandwiches would be nice.” Paige locked her arm with her sister. “So, how’s life? Feel like I’ve been so busy lately that I haven’t been able to keep up with anyone.”
The pair began to walk down the street towards the corner store. It was mostly a gentrified business park, but vestiges of the old neighborhood it once was shone through. “Oh, y’know. It’s been good! Chaotic, but good.” She was thoroughly occupied between work, school, and various mutant-related activities. “How’s school been goin’ with you? It’s jus’ startin’ back up, yeah?”
“Good, good. Nice to get back in the swing of things. I’ve already got a paper to work on.” Paige was glad to have class to focus on again. Especially since…. “Hey, have you seen Sam recently? He’s been a bit scarce lately,” she said, trying to be casual, looking at all the beautiful buildings around then instead of staring at Mel.
Her sister didn’t really seem to pick up on the vibe. “Huh, not really now that ya say. I reckon he’s been busy as well. Lots goin’ on at the community center this time of year.”
“Yeah, I guess so.” Sam had seemed off ever since that alternate universe adventure, but maybe it was just Paige. Mel was right, he was probably just busy volunteering. “Well, at least you’re not too busy to spend time with me.”
“I never am! How else will I make sure yer eatin’ things other than our leftovers?” Mel joked, leaning over to knock shoulders with Paige.
“Hey, it’s not all leftovers,” she giggled. “Sometimes it’s pre-made meals. I’m very self-sufficient.”
“Mhmmmm.” Her sister didn’t seem convinced. “C’mon, in here. You have to have this certain bag of chips with yer sandwich. I ain’t been able to find them anywhere else but here.”
