In the wake of the attempted abduction of Rictor and Emily, representatives of the X-Men, X-Force and X-Factor gather to talk about what next
Amanda sighed and pushed back a handful of her hair as she looked around the group gathered in the Snow Valley meeting room table. "Thanks for coming so quick," she said. "Sorry for the sudden call, but with what happened to Em and Ju-- Rictor today, I figured we'd better talk this over as soon as possible."
It was a surreal conversation to be having, thought Sue, especially in a conference room that looked more like it was something out of the bank, but then everything about life at the mansion and its associated activities sometimes felt a little surreal. "Getting in before something else happens is probably a good call yeah."
"We don't know much about these individuals." Clea passed around the only clear photo they had of one of the individuals, the one that didn't have an animal mask, just lines that created a circle on their mask. "They've always kept their distance and today was the first time they tried to take two of our own."
"But you know enough about them to know they are a threat and what? You just sat around with your thumbs up your arses and didn't try to find out more?" Scorn dripped from Madin's voice. What could you expect if someone like Clea was in charge of all this, though? She'd called Madin the help when they first met and this wasn't helping ease a months long one sided grudge.
"If you are not going to be helpful, you can leave." Marie-Ange said - with an expression bordering on arctic.
She waited a breath - and then swiped her tablet screen to project onto the bigger screen in the conference room and looked at the group. "I had Doug pull facial recognition and that came up with exactly nothing, which was not a surprise. Given the circumstances, I want increased security on Ms Bright and Mr Richter. If I thought I could put personal bodyguards on them I would, but I rather imagine that will go over poorly."
"I've sent facial recognition data to my various contacts," Topaz said, eyes fixed on her own tablet as she scrolled. "It's a long shot, but maybe someone can at least tell us if there's any significance to the masks. In the meantime, since personal bodyguards probably won't work - bit hard to explain to school for one thing - we can make protection charms. Something to ping us when one of them might be in danger, and also shield them until we can get there."
Jean-Phillipe tapped his fingers on the table as he considered the situation. "And in the meantime, we...well, I suppose locking down the mansion entirely might be a difficult ask, but at the very least sharply curtail the comings and goings of people to the barest minimum?" He remembered what he had been like as a teenager, and he suspected a strict curfew would be a struggle to enforce.
Amanda had been quiet, taking in the various input from around the table. Now she spoke, a certain authority entering her voice that only her teammates had really heard before. "The thing is, we don't know how long this is going to go on for. Like JP said, we can't lock the mansion down without a whole lot of protest, and if it goes on for longer than a couple of days, we'll have a riot on our hands. Not to mention we have no clue how powerful these people are and how they'll respond to mutant powers." As she saw several people about to respond, she continued. "So we don't lock Em and Rictor down in the mansion. We keep them here. We call on Sue and whoever else to add to our existing security, we magic users ward the place to the gills and we pull the threat away from the mansion."
"I'll get a hold of Megan. She has also been impacted byall of this." Clea was already pulling out her phone to text her and sent it off before looking up at the rest of the group. "We'll get started tonight with those wards."
