Clea hears/feels a humming from close by and goes to eXcal chapel where Meggan shows her around.

The humming was unavoidable now. Now that Clea has acknowledged it, she was keenly aware of its presence and really driving her crazy. Clea marched right over to the chapel where the humming was coming the strongest. She wasn't sure what she was going to do but she had to talk to someone about it. What she couldn't understand is why now? Was this also connected to a hidden talent that was unlocked?

She knocked on the chapel doors, "Anyone home?" Clea felt like one of those people who wanted to talk to someone's manager. Every hair on her body felt like it was standing up.

Meggan heard the knocking, and darted off to answer it. It was her turn for wormhole duty today, and her portion had really only just started five minutes ago. Everything had appeared relatively quiet up to now, and she was glad she hadn’t closed the door to the room or she might have missed hearing anything. She moved to open up the door, not wanting anyone to wait too long. “Present! I’m here!”

"Meggan!" Clea was very pleased to see her friend answering the door. "Question, are there any experiments or anything going on? Something that would cause a humming?"

Meggan considered that, but she was coming up empty on lab things. “There aren’t any experiments happening at this minute, no. Do you think it could be the wormhole? My shift just started, and it seemed like it was all quiet with the wormhole so far….but come on in,” she urged. “We’ll see if you hear it getting louder or quieter as we go, if it's not!”

"I was afraid it might be the wormhole. Could I? I promise I won't touch anything." The humming hadn't died down when Meggan had opened the door. "I feel like I'll have more questions rather than answers but it is a start."

“Of course you can,” Meggan assured her as she waved her in. If Clea hearing something kept them from dealing with worse things at a later date, then she was happy for her to help out with the noise control. "Seriously. Let me know if it's the vending machine instead, since that's on the way, too!"

"Thanks." Clea followed Meggan into the Chapel. "If it is your vending machine, get a new one." She gave a small chuckle. "How has everything been going? Anything weird going on with the wormhole lately? Or has it been quiet?"

“If it is the vending machine, then the inter-dimensional snacks are having fun with us all again,” Meggan grinned. “Well, except for the humming you mentioned, since that wouldn't be so great. It’s been relatively quiet just now.”

"They didn't come alive, did they?" Clea stopped at the vending machine, "Nope. Not the vending machine." She lifted her arms to show Meggan her goosebumps. "But we are close."

“Sort of? A couple years back, we had a 12 Days of Christmas sort of thing going on with it. I saw ten gingerbread men go twirling and leaping out a basket before they exploded. They weren’t ever really actually alive, though; I didn’t sense any sentience in them. That’s the quiet kind of weirdness,” Meggan offered as they walked.

“Some of the crackers have sung in opera of different languages punctuated by screams if you eat them, and one of the candy pieces sang I Am the Very Model of a Modern Major-General last week.” At the news it wasn’t the culprit, she was pleased. Not so pleased for the goosebumps.

"Sounds like something that would have happened in magic class. But I don't think I could eat another gingerbread man if I saw what you saw." Clea continued to follow Meggan until they reached the Wormhole. "Yeah that is it. That is the humming I am hearing or feeling." She pressed her lips together as she began to think about what was happening. She never heard this humming before but after everything these last couple of months, it was the only possible solution. "This wormhole was created due to a collapse on its other end, correct?

“Thankfully, they weren’t able to feel the whole bursting into crumbs,” Meggan noted. So Clea was picking up something really subtle, but the computers weren’t? That wasn’t good. “That’s right, yes,” she confirmed, even as she went around to verify that nothing new had popped up in any of the warnings at all. Of course there wasn’t the whole alert going off, but she had at least hoped that one of the smaller bits would get antsy if something was trickling in enough for humming!

“Let me know if anything I do here turns it off on your side, or just makes it more shrill” she urged. She was pressing an emergency button to shut things down.

Clea waited for a moment and closed her eyes, waiting for silence. However, her magical senses were going off when a portal was opened right there. "No. I don't think it is the machines. I think it is the wormhole itself." She opened her eyes and didn't dare get closer to the wormhole in case it did suck her in or something. "I am wondering if my newer powers are related to sensing portals." The red head pulled out her sling ring and toyed with it for a moment. She hadn't used it since Halloween, she was still royally pissed off at the Ancient One and his goons. "I have more questions than answers. I need to do more digging into the Dark Dimension. I know that it was a center hub for other worlds at one point, so I am assuming since that magical link has been re-established, I can sense portals. Luckily I don't hear the humming when I am outside of the estate but it is only when I am close. Which is why I thought it was an experiment going off."

Clea looked over at Meggan almost defeated like, as she didn't get to turn off the noise. "Right now, it is just a hum, almost like a tingling sensation. It usually happens when I can feel a magical residue." She looked down at the sling ring and moved to walk out of the room. She wasn't about to open another portal in the same room with a disabled one.

“So it’s probably just the leftovers from the opening and closing of it, and not something we can’t detect building up to tear us all apart? Good,” Meggan muttered in evident relief. She had imagined a hum going up in the way of a noisy dentist drill, too; she was glad for Clea’s sake that it was the aforementioned tingling, and not radiating everywhere for miles.

It was a pity that she couldn't stop it from being perceived by her altogether with the right press of a button!
