Who: Jubilation Lee, Manuel de la Rocha
Where: Poolside
When: Thursday July 8th 2004 1pm
What Happens: Jubilee falls asleep near the pool. Manny wakes her. She freaks. He gives her a massage and a demonstration of his powers.

Jubilee stepped out onto the pool deck, her face raised to the sun. She'd brought a towel with her to lie on and had found some massage oil she'd made at a novelty store in the local mall some time ago. It had a nice peppermint smell and always helped to wake her up if she'd had a bad night.

Laying the towel out on the ground, she lay down on it, enjoying the feel of the sun on her back. She'd already applied a first layer of sunscreen, so she wasn't too worried about getting burnt. She closed her eyes, falling into a light doze as the sun warmed her. 'Just a short nap.' She thought.

--

Manuel came out of class, wearing a light T-shirt and cargo shorts. When he saw the sleeping Jubilee, he grinned evilly and empathically scanned her, to see what she felt as she slumbered.

***

She was dreaming, and it appeared to be a nice dream. She wasn't entirely sure how she knew it to be a dream but she'd always had the ability. She was back in California, in the mall that had been her home for the last few years. She could hear music in the background, a soft melody...was it Christmas? It sounded like Christmas music.

She was watching families walk by, children pleading with their parents for treats. This time of year always made her both happy and sad. Happy, because others were happy and she'd always felt that people should be happy at Christmas. Sad, because her parents weren't there, and the giant tree behind her made her remember the last Christmas they'd spent together. Her father had been so excited about getting a real tree.

She shook her head, concentrating on the music, trying to figure out what the song was.

***

Manuel kept on scanning, and ever-so-lightly traced a fingertip down her bare spine, trying to see where her sensitivity threshold was - and, honestly, because it amused him to do so. He left her feelings strictly alone, taking the opportunity as one to learn, not one to mess with her head.

***

She was somewhere else now, on a beach lying in the sun. She could feel the wind caressing her skin, sliding up her back. The cool wind felt good against her back, a respite from the warm sun above her. She leaned into it, humming softly.

She frowned when she felt resistance against her back, wondering why wind would have substance.

'What?' she thought muzzily, shocked into wakefulness as she opened her eyes and saw Manny looking down at her.

Her eyes widened, and she rolled, staggering to her feet. "Wha...muh? Manny, what the hell?"

Manny got a brainfull of confusion, and nearly reeled from the intensity of it. "Hey, relax! You fell asleep out here; I was trying to wake you to apply sunscreen. That's all." he said, taking a step backwards to demonstrate his sincerity.

Jubilee repeated a meditative mantra in her head, slowly relaxing her muscles from the defensive posture she'd assumed. 'It's just Manny' she thought, slowly relaxing, her body resuming a more normal stance.

Jubilee shook her head, plastering on a smile. "Dude, like totally sorry. I guess I must have gotten a little more relaxed then I thought, hey? So, you know, um, yeah. How about I just sit down on the towel and you can like, do my back."

Amanda's attitude on the journals had gotten up her nose, so she'd flirted with Manny a bit, knowing it'd annoy her more. But now that she was here and he was in front of her, she felt strange, confused and frightened of something she couldn't understand.

Jubilee sat back down on the towel quickly, her posture tense. She'd come out here planning to prove something but now she wondered what the hell she'd been thinking.

Manny could scan all that confusion, lust, and friendship bouncing around in Jubilee's brain, but decided against augmenting the stuff he liked and suppressing the stuff he didn't. Instead, he took a step forward, and grabbed the suntan lotion. "Just lie still, close your eyes, and relax. I'm about to send you to Heaven, and you get to keep your bikini on." he said with a smirk, before setting to with a vengeance.

His touch was soft where it needed to be soft, rough where it needed to be rough, and it became very obvious, very fast that Manuel had done this sort of thing before. Many, many times. He didn't miss a spot with the suntan lotion, and he seemed to have tense spot radar. "Stop tensing, you're going to wreck all my efforts here. And if you do that, I will have to be upset with you." he taunted.

Jubilee began to relax as she listened to the tone of his voice, noting that he wasn't taking liberties with the way he was putting the suntan lotion on her.

"Dude, you're good at this. Although, I still totally hold the champion massager trophy." she murmured, lifting her head to grin back at him.

Manuel smiled back, his eyes clear and devoid of any red in them whatsoever. "You're a talented upstart." he grinned at her. "Now lay back down. Shame this has to be so limited - I also do erotic massage to die for." he said, to see how she'd react. "But that should do it for now. Your back is all covered, and you're as relaxed as you're going to get without using my power. Speaking of which - did you want me to try the beach thing?"

Jubilee laughed, blushing softly before she could stop herself. "I think I'll skip the erotic massage but yeah, I'd love ta see you do the beach thing. Still, like, seriously have no idea how you're gonna achieve it though. Thought you could only affect emotions and stuff."

"And that's still true. Here's what I want you to do. Remember, if you would, a perfect beach moment. What it felt like, how it made you feel, OK? Once you do that, I can make you feel like that any time you want me to - to keep the illusion that you're at the beach, instead of on a towel here at poolside." he said with a smile. She blushed. Good to know.

She nodded, thinking back to the times she'd been at the beach. There was one time, just after she'd gotten to LA, she'd had to spend the night outside, not having anywhere to stay. But, it'd been a full moon and she'd felt safe for the first time in a long while. She remembered the feel of the sand against her hands and the wind moving through her hair. It wasn't perfect by how others might measure but it was right.

"Got it." she said, smiling as she remembered the stars on that night.

--

Manuel's eyes glowed red as he latched onto that feeling, amplified it, and sent it right back to her. "There you go." he said kindly, enjoying the feel of it all.

Jubilee winced as the feelings intensified, fighting the sensation in a small moment of panic before she relaxed completely and let herself go. If Manny were going to hurt her, he would have done it far before now. She'd trust him, and see what happened.

Smiling, she smelt the sea air rushing past her, the stars shining brightly in the night sky. Leaning back against her towel, she gave herself to the feeling, trusting Manny to bring her back.

Manuel leaned back in one of the pool chairs, relaxing himself while he maintained the weave on Jubilee, prompting her own mind to fill in the details as he brought the feelings back. After about an hour or so, he let the weave die. "There you go. I'm thirsty, and I'm fairly sure I can't maintain the weave from the kitchen."

She nodded, blinking as she centered herself, looking around and then up at Manuel. "Sure, like, totally can't spend all day in the sun, anyhow. You doin' anything tomorrow? Thought I'd do a little rollerblading' if you were up for it."

"Rollerblading? What's that?" he asked with a tilt of his head. "I suppose I could give it a try. But let me get back to you on scheduling - I've got classes all week and some other things that I need to take care of before I can enjoy an idle afternoon. But I'm glad that we got to sit out for a short while." he said, admiring Jubilee's little black bikini. ~Who knew?~ he thought to himself with a mental smirk.

She nodded, smiling up at him. "Rollerbladin' sorta has to be experienced, kinda like iceskatin' only you don't need ice. Just give me a bell when you're free. Cool thing about summer, cept for a few language classes and such, I'm pretty much just hangin' around."
