Dom catches up to Paige during her morning run. They chat, mostly about things Paige doesn't usually chat about as well as a little about Angelo's morning breath. The only conclusion that we could come up with is that Paige on her morning run high says very strange things. Good old fashioned get to knowing inside.

Despite Amanda's healing spells last week, her leg really wasn't up to her usual five-k run, Domino admitted to herself, but she wasn't going to let that stop her. She needed the exercise, and it was a lovely morning. If she limped around for the rest of the day, eh, she could cope.

The morning found Paige taking her first run of the day. Usually, Paige was a one to two run a day person, and substitute run with a heavy jog, but given recent events she found herself needing three to four and as many showers. Paige wasn't the emotional type and any time they got too close to her lips, or fingertips in some cases, she found some excuse to go out again.

Domino spotted Amanda's roommate ahead of her on the path and sped up a little to catch up. "Hey, Paige," she said, only slightly out of breath, and only because of the pain in her leg. "You run alone? Because I will fuck off if you want."

"Usually, but if anyone asks, I'm making sure you don't topple into the underbrush," she replied with a surprisingly smooth tone before offering her a smile. Her pony tail bounced joyfully along as they ran along the path. "The mansion seems to keep aquiring more and more people who actually get up on their own at this hour."

"I don't need much sleep," Domino said with a grin. "Well, except when I do. Which, in my own defense, is usually only when I've been stupid. Which doesn't happen often! Really."

Paige couldn't help but give the older woman a little bit of a smirk, even if her smirking skills were rather poor. "Uh huh. I don't need a witty reply to that, your words are amusing enough as it is."

"You sound like Mina," Domino said mournfully. Paige blinked at her, and she grinned. "One of my teammates. I mean, crap, she's only three years older than I am, but she acts like I'm some wayward child. I think it's because she's a newlywed. Women's brains go to mush when they get married, I've noticed."

Unable to think of any polite reply to the wayward child comment Paige merely nodded sympathetically. "Well, you'll be very happy to know then that I do not plan on getting married."

"Good for you!" Domino said cheerfully. "Monogamy never made any sense to me."

"Then you'll be even more pleased to know I partake in polygamy," Paige chirped in reply, quite proud of herself. It struck her as odd for a moment, how proud she was of her multiple partners, as she'd never really been so before, before deciding that was a reflection for later. "Now of course, I'm going to be optimistic and assume that Angelo informed you of so and that my reputation does not preceed me."

"Hah! No, he didn't," Domino said, beaming. "You and Angelo, and... wait, no, let me guess... this Jono person I met so briefly last week? Angelo has a certain tone when he talks about him. I was wondering about that."

Paige couldn't help but laugh a little at her pleased tone and even more when she guessed correctly. "If I didn't know better I'd say you had a telepathic mutation. Does he still loathe Jono so? He's gone and become so good at pretending with me it's hard to tell sometimes."

"Hey, you get raised by a telepath, you pick up some of the tricks of the trade," Domino said easily. "As for Angelo and Jono... no, I'd say the tone, the couple of times he's mentioned him, has been more like... bemusement. Of course, since I'm not actually a telepath, I may be misreading..."

"I'll take bemusement or a slight variation of over pure hatred any day," Paige replied with a jaunty tone. She had no idea what was getting into her but it was at least enjoyable. "Thank you for snitching on him. It's good for me to know," she continued, somehow managing a grave nod as she was running.

"Angelo's quickly becoming one of my favorite people around here," Domino said with another grin. "You have good taste. Hell, I broke down and cried all over him on Sunday, and he didn't even run in the other direction."

"He's good like that. And comfortable I might add, which you wouldn't think as he's a skinny thing," Paige commented, very confused as to why she is chattering so easily with this woman, even if it is about things everyone already knows. "He even tries to be all shrink-like some days, it's quite cute if I may say so."

"Well, he was awfully good to me," Domino said firmly. "Plus he's awfully cute with that puppy." She grinned again at Paige. "Your idea, yes?"

Paige found herself laughing again, the flush on her cheeks from running suddenly accented. "More his idea and I just happen to listen really, really well. I'm a good girlfriend like that." "I gave him a little something. The three of you will have to sneak off and enjoy it somewhere safe where you won't get bitched at," Domino said with a chuckle.

"The only thing the three of us seem to enjoy together are beds and only for sleeping. Oh, and handcuffs, but that's a separate sort of thing, made union by amusing conversations later and we already have a pair of those thanks to Shinobi," Paige rambled, still setting a fairly brisk pace for her running partner as they rounded a gentle corner. "That was my subtle hint at give me more information by the way. I figured it would be easier if I just told you upfront since most people miss my subtleties."

"Not a fun toy, sadly, although this is me making a mental note," Domino said. "It's a bottle of vodka I brought from Berlin. Real vodka, not the watered-down stuff you get over here in the States." Her eyes twinkled a little. "Wonderful stuff for lowering inhibitions."

"You say that like Angelo has any left," Paige said, dead serious, before breaking into a grin. "No, but really, I'll remember that. I'd thank you, but I certainly don't drink the stuff. I'm sure he was pleased, though."

"Got one of those giddy, slightly gloating looks," Domino confirmed. "You undoubtedly know the type. 'I can be bad!' There are a couple of teenaged boys back in Berlin whose faces I'm used to seeing that type of look on."

Paige sighed and nodded, eyes turned heavenward. "Oh, yes. He likes to think he's very horrible like that. Only thing horrible about him is his morning breath, but whose isn't?" Her feet made even thumps against the ground as they ran, accenting the pause. "But I suppose he has every right. And we love him for it, don't we?"

"I'm quite fond of the teenaged male in general," Domino said innocently. "They're such fascinating creatures..."

"I do hope I don't have to get possessive and say 'mine' now, ma'am. I'm all about the territorial, even if I have little right," Paige replied with ease, not breaking stride.

"I'm no poacher," Domino said with dignity. "I may not go in for this whole 'emotional connection' thing myself, but I do respect it when I see it."

Paige visibly breathed a sigh of relief, making a show out of wiping her brow. "Thank goodness. I might be somewhat fond of you. Or I might be on a running high, but we'll go for the former."

"Aw, I'm touched." Domino ran beside her for a few minutes in silence, then burst out with a laugh. "In the head, some people would say."

"To which I would reply, 'Yes, but it's okay. I prefer to stay with my own kind anyway' of course," Paige answered cheerfully. "Horrible structure and awkward rhyming included."

They were coming back around in the general direction of the mansion, and Domino gave a very artificial martyred sigh. "Fun as this has been, I have a witch and a telepath to check on before my day really starts, so I should probably leave you to commune with the running gods and go make a nuisance of myself."

Paige nodded solemnly once more, slowing slightly for her. "I understand. They give you any grief that you don't deserve and you send them to me." Paige grinned at her and winked, surprisingly even herself. "Well. Something like that, you know what I mean."

Domino laughed and peeled off, giving Paige a jaunty wave as she headed towards the mansion. "Catch you later, babe. I'll restrain myself to patting Angelo on the head if I pass him in the halls, I promise..."

Paige could only shake her head and wave at that, trying not to laugh, before turning and setting down the fork to the left this time.

Polygymy is multiple _women_.

Polyandry is multiple men. This is what Paige is into.

MANUEL is the polygymyst. He likes having multiple women.

Unless Paige got a lot more outre than I remember her being? ;)

You're getting "polygamy" and "polygyny" confused. :) Paige is polyandrous, Manuel is polygynous, but they're both polygamous.

Well, for a relaxed definition of "polygamy" that doesn't involve marriage, anyway.

It's stupider when you take it from a classic Absent-Minded Professor who, I kid you not, used to forget what he was going to write on the board in the process of turning around to write it. Great guy, but not anything like Teacher of the Year.

I don't have that excuse.

I've never studied Greek, but I do know the roots of the word. Any Greek I have I've picked up through osmosis.

DAMN! MORE GREEK!

PS - I was Greek in college, does that count? ;)

No, Redhawk, having three letters on the front of your shirt that don't really spell anything does _not_ count.

Silly fratboy. ;-)
