fucking ow.
Jul. 22nd, 2003 02:32 amAfter having a blunt bone push through her skin, Sarah looks for things that will make her feel better. Namely, painkillers and a violent movie.
"Miss Morlocke?"
"Yeah, uh, you wouldn't happen to have any heavy-duty painkillers? My bones are acting up tonight."
"Hmm..." Essex tapped his pen against his chin. "Come in. I'd like to examine you before providing any heavy-duty medication. They are notoriously hard on the system, especially to a young woman."
Sarah walked in, hand gingerly on her left arm. "Thanks." She takes her hand away, revealing a large bruise and a little dried blood. "The bone wasn't sharp, but it pushed through anyway."
"Indeed." Essex rotated her forearm gently, impossibly strong fingers following the line of the bone. "Are you finding some stiffness in your wrist and hand, s Morlocke?"
"No, it just hurts." She watches him with narrowed eyes. "Really hurts."
"I can imagine. I think I can feel a number of bone spurs starting." Essex prodded her arm, his fingers gentle. "Rapid ossification. Interesting." Essex released her arm and walked over to his desk. "Do you have any allegeries, Miss Morlocke? Reactions to any drugs you know of?"
"Not that I know of," she said, shaking her head slowly. Her hand returned to her arm, covering the bruise again.
Essex rummaged around for a few moments, and eventually pulled a pill vial and a larger box of pills. He measured out twenty and dropped them into the vial. "Have you been working with anyone about your mutant abilities?"
Sarah is quiet for a moment, and then she shakes her head again. "No, they can't do anything for me."
"That's a rather dejected assumption. Hasn't Dr McCoy spent some time with you on researching your condition?"
"Yeah." She shrugs, and scratches at a spot just below her knee. She hopes that bone comes out sharp, not sure if she can handle another like the one earlier. "I guess it's just easier to believe he won't find anything until he actually does. So I don't get my hopes up."
"Well, if you are interested, I may be able to help you." Essex passed over the pill bottle. "I'm extremely busy right now, but if you'd like to drop by the lab later on this week, I can run some experiments. I might find something that Dr McCoy has missed."
Sarah looks at the pill bottle, and then back up at Essex. "Thanks. I think I can use all the help I can get. First horns, and now this."
"You would be amazed what I can come up with, Miss Morlocke. Take no more than one of those every six hours when your bones are surfacing."
She takes another look at the pill bottle, making a mental note of Essex' instructions. "Thanks again Dr. Essex," she says, "I hope these help."
"Indeed, Miss Morlocke. I do as well. I will see you soon, so we can start on that research."
