When:Set late Friday Afternoon.
Who: Jubilee and Nathan
What Happens: Jubilee takes the chance to visit Nate. Her vow to stay quiet lasts all of five seconds.

Jubilee looked Nate over, looking for signs that he was really okay. She supposed you couldn't really tell something like that what with Nate being asleep and all but just seeing him here was better then him being somewhere out there where no one could help him. She knew that she was probably not one of the people the doctors would talk to about what had happened but she didn't really need to know the details, just that everything was okay. "Hey Teach, know they said I had to be quiet and all but this is me, right? When have I ever been able to be quiet? And well, I got told once that people when they're lost, all they really want to hear is a voice that's familiar. So, like, I know I'm not Moira or Amanda but I'm a voice ya know. Not that you're like, in a coma or anything...so I guess it doesn't apply."

She watched him, noting the small rise and fall of his chest. She guessed he was sleeping, probably the reason they'd all been asked to be quiet. "I've been studyin', ya know. Keeping up with Arabic even. I totally read an entire chapter. You'd have been proud, specially since it's like, not my favourite language. But, kinda thought maybe if I kept workin' at it that maybe I'd like it better. Knew you'd be back, that Scott and the others would find you eventually. Then I hear you've attacked Chuck but that they got you back."

She sat down on a chair near the bed, moving around till she'd found a comfortable position. "Don't worry about Chuck though, he's got that whole forgiveness thing goin'. I swear he'd probably even forgive Magneto if the guy seemed sincere about it. You're probably gonna be beatin' yourself up about stuff when you wake up though. You and Scott, dude. Seriously into the self-flagellation there. Sometimes stuff just happens though, and even if we're responsible. Well, we get the get out of guilt free card cause there wasn't much we could do about it."

She looked at him, hoping to see some sign of life. Okay, so they really wanted him to sleep but she wished he could just sit up and tell her he was going to be okay. The teacher she'd come to respect and care about shouldn't be lying unconscious in bed, even if it was a comfortable one in his own room. Well, okay, sleeping in a comfortable bed wasn't such a bad thing to be doing but what had happened to him wasn't right. It wasn't right that the bad things in life happened to the people who least deserved them. She had a mind to take it up with someone, if only she could find a number God would answer.

Nathan had been better than half-asleep when Jubilee had come in, but the running monologue had pulled him from that to a light doze, to almost-but-not-quite awake, and he had been listening to her for the last couple of minutes. When she finally fell silent, he opened his eyes, blinking up at her. "Done?" he asked hoarsely, a weary little flicker of a smile tugging at his lips. "Didn't want to interrupt..."

Jubilee started at Nathan's voice, cutting off when she'd been about to continue. "Yeah, I'm done. I like, didn't wake you up, did I? Cause, Moira would totally kick my arse if I did. I was sorta meant to be all quiet and all."

"It's okay. I wake up, I drift off. Then I wake up again." He shifted a little, wincing as his bruises protested. "You okay?" he asked a bit dimly, trying to focus on her.

Jubilee nodded and then realised he was still half asleep. "Yeah, I'm cool. Better now that we know you're okay. Don't have all that many teachers that'll put up with my babblin', so you know, needed to get you back."

She'd never been good at telling people she cared. Open displays of affection, fine. But actually sitting down and saying to someone that she was glad they were around because it made life that little bit sunnier. Well, she'd never gotten the hang of that.

There was something almost comforting about the run-on sentences. Well, they weren't run-on sentences, really... Nathan blinked again. His mind was going weird places. "Yeah," he muttered absently. "I'm okay."

Jubilee looked at him more closely, realising he probably wasn't up to a long conversation. "That's good. Just, guess I wanted ta tell you that it's gonna be okay. Least, as okay as anything ever is round here. And I like, totally shouldn't be keepin' you awake like this. I'm sure I could sit here, if you wanted ta go back to sleep. Well, maybe I could, I've never really tried the silence thing before. Or, I could like talk to ya, and tell ya about what's been goin' on here since you left. If someone hasn't done that already, anyhow."

"Whatever you'd like," Nathan murmured, his eyes closing again. "Not going anywhere, trust me..."

Jubilee nodded and thought about what she could tell him. She decided to just start at the beginning.

Several minutes later...

"So like, I was totally surprised that Monet even knew how to sew..."
