Actually happens sometime Friday afternoon, but damned if I didn't have to rewrite the thing three times because my computer was kicking up a fuss. Rar.

Private E-Mail to Alison, Lorna, and Rahne

Hey. :) I have this idea that I sort of need accomplices to pull off.

See, the thing is, on August 15th it's going to be two months since Kitty and I went on our first date, which I know isn't really all that much time, really, but it's an excuse to do something nice for her, and I had this idea. You know that Barenaked Ladies song, "If I Had A Million Dollars?" Rahne, you might not, I dunno how popular they are in Scotland or if your guardian would've let you listen to a group with a name like that--they're this wacky Canadian group I really like, and the song's about all these bizarre romantic things this guy would do if he had a million dollars. I don't have a million dollars, but I figured if I scaled back I could sort of recreate the song as a treasure hunt around the mansion for Kitty, and while she was busy doing that I could set up a candlelight dinner in the dining room, which is where the last directions would lead.

So the help I need is getting stuff to fit the lines of the song. I made a list. Ms. Blaire, Lorna, I didn't figure you'd need much of an excuse to go on a shopping trip. :) The thing is, don't splurge or anything, I mean, it doesn't have to be really nice stuff, it's . . . well, okay, a. I'm on a budget, and 2. the thing is, is that the stuff for the song is the trickiest part to get together but it's not the important thing, the important thing is the dinner and the thing where in with the clues and directions to the next spot there'll be stuff like, I have all the ticket stubs from the movies and stuff we've been to, and chopsticks from the Chinese place, and I snuck out early at the folk festival and got that Railroad Earth CD she wanted, and stuff like that. So it'd be nice if the stuff for the song could be nice enough to be gifts too, but it's not necessary, and since I'm paying for all of it, might not end up happening. Cute, not splurgy, is the deal with the song stuff. Can you get it to me by the 12th?Also, Lorna, I'm probably going to need help with the menu and the cooking and stuff. Grilling I can do, and desserts, and things, but romantic dinner stuff . . . not so much. I'd really appreciate a hand.

Rahne, what I was hoping you'd help with is, I need somebody to pace off the directions who's closer to Kitty's height than I am, to get the right number of paces. I'm putting in a list of the directions I need, and if sometime the next couple weeks you could sort of unobtrusively walk 'em and report back, I'd owe you huge. You'd have to keep track of where you turn corners and what direction, because I want it to read like a treasure map, all "fifteen paces, turn right, then twenty paces, then left through the door," like that.

Shopping List

One dollhouse, doesn't have to be fancy, but does need a chesterfield and an ottoman.

One toy K-car.

One mini-fridge. This I'd like to borrow if I can, if somebody's got one left over from college or something that they're not using. Doesn't need to be plugged in--I'm putting it out in a treehouse I'm going to build partway, out on the grounds, and the clue's going in there with a package of pre-wrapped kosher hot dogs, which we already have in the kitchen, I checked.

One doll's fur coat. Not real. That's cruel. :)

One stuffed llama.

One stuffed emu.

One of those punch-out balsa wood elephant skeleton puzzle things that they sell in natural history museum gift shops.

One guarantee that the limo we took to Finding Nemo will be in the garage on the 15th, and enough Kraft frozen dinners to fill the fridge in there, plus one bottle of gourmet ketchup. I'm not sure if gourmet ketchup actually exists. If it doesn't, I'll just use a regular bottle of ketchup and make a new label for it.

One doll's green dress. I have a picture of this dress Kitty got when we were in NYC with Terry, and if you can find one that looks like that one, that'd be great, but if you can't, no biggie.

One Picasso poster.

One Art Garfunkel poster.

One stuffed monkey.

I think that's about it. If either of you have better ideas for any of this, fire away.

Pacing Routes

From Kitty's room to the TV room.
From the TV room to the treehouse site out on the grounds, I'll show you where.
From the treehouse to the pool.
From the pool to the library.
From the library to the music room.
From the music room to the garage.
From the garage to the laundry room.
From the laundry room to the art classroom.
From the art classroom to the bio lab.
From the bio lab to the dining room.

If any of the routes get too close to the kitchen or the dining room, feel free to use a less direct route that doesn't, as long as you get the directions clear. :)

And if you guys are too busy, or this is too big an imposition, no problem, really, just let me know quick so I can figure something else out. This is a huge favor and I won't forget it. Thanks (ahem) a million.

Oh, one more thing. This has to be kept absolutely dead secret, because if Kitty found out it would ruin the surprise, and if anybody else found out what a huge sappy marshmallow I am, my guy license would get revoked and I wouldn't be allowed to grunt or scratch myself or enjoy violent sporting events. ;)

(Lorna? A revoked guy license is not a good enough excuse to get me into a dress, in case you were wondering.)

Delivered to Kitty by way of the Illyana Rasputin Express Mail Service

I never heard of the song, no, but if 'tis not as bad as the name of the group sounds I can do the directions for you.

I'll need to do the first leg sometime Kitty's NOT in her room....
