Backdated to Thursday, right after the large shouting match. While Paige comforts Lorna in the hallway, Kitty goes after Alex, whose found his way back to his ole' brooding spot by the wall.

One would, Kitty thought, have had to have been deaf
not to hear the shouting. Which was unfortunate,
especially given the rather private nature of the
argument. She'd spotted Paige in the hallway with
Lorna when she popped her head out the door, which
meant Alex had to have been the one connected with the
loudly slaming door. Not wanting to disturb Lorna,
Kitty simply phased out and dropped through the floor,
before heading outside after Alex.

It didn't take her very long to spot him, and from the
way he was glaring at the wall she almost thought he
had given up on his own powers and was trying to
manifest his brother's.

"Alex?" she called out.

He didn't know exactly why he'd come out there. He'd
just kind of found himself there, outside, staring at
the stupid wall again. Alex hadn't been out here since
he'd been rescued from Her, and now, for some
reason...he'd unconsiously returned.

He sat there reliving the events of what had just
happened over and over again in his head. Why did she
have to force it out of him like that? Why didn't he
just tell her in the first place? Why did everything
have to end this way...? He was so lost in thought
that the voice behind him caused him to jump in
surprise. He turned his head slighty.

"Oh hey Kitty." He said as calmy as he could, trying
to pretend nothing was wrong.

"Heya," she said. There was a definite awkwardness to
this all, Kitty decided. After all, 'so, I heard from
the screaming you broke up with your girlfriend' was
hardly diplomatic. "Fascinating bit of masonry, isn't
it?"

Alex had to blink and his face showed he was clearly
confused until he glanced the wall out of the corner
of his eye. "Oh yeah...fascinating." He knew that
wasn't why she was out there, most likely she'd heard
the lovely display that had just taken place. He
blushed in embarassement and turned away again. "Sorry
for the disturbance earlier...I assure you, we've made
sure it won't happen again."

"Somehow, that wasn't my biggest worry," Kitty said.
"Are you ok?" She quickly shook her head. "That has to
be the stupidest question I've ever asked," she said
before he could answer. "Is there anything I can do?"

Alex sighed as he leaned his head back against the
tree he was sitting against. "Unless you can help me
go back and erase the entire past year...I don't think
there's anything anyone can do for us." He couldn't
help but wince when he used 'us' to refer to him and
Lorna. "It's over Kitty...it's over..." Alex had to
say it twice, as if he was still convincing himself of
that fact.

"I wish I could," Kitty said, looking sad. "I wish I
could do anything to help... I can, and will, avoid
any of the normal sort of platitudes."

"Platitudes?" Alex raised an eyebrow slightly confused
at the big word then shook his head. "Well, whatever
it doesn't matter. Nothing can fix it, so what's done
is done and now I just have to live with it..."

"Platitiudes," Kitty confirmed. "Trite phrases.
'Everything will work out in the end,' 'it will all
look better in the morning,' 'thigns will be ok.' As
for 'what's done is done', I don't think I really
believe it, but I can easily believe that it feels
that way now. 'Give it time' is another one of thoes
oft repeated phrases, but I think it might actually be
pretty apt, here."

Alex gave her a sideways glance at spouting all those
phrases then sighed. "Well what am I supposed to do
Kitty?" His voice reducded itself to a whisper. "She
said I lied to her everytime I told her I loved
her..." He looked up at her, completely lost. "How
would 'give it time' fix that?"

"Well, since I really don't believe that, or believe
that she thinks that, it would give her time to calm
down and think more rationally. Time does all sorts of
things, and a lot can change in a week or two. Put
some space... er, temporal space," she added,
remembering that Alex had already run off once before,
"between this and you and then talk to her."

Alex had caught the slip and with a glance at the wall
in front of him, gave her a small smile. "Don't
worry...it's that 'space' that's causing all the
trouble. Running away would only make it worse...I
learned my lesson the first time..." He looked down at
the ground. "Guess it's all I can do... give her
space..." he repeated to himself before looking back
up at her. "Thanks for coming after me Kitty...and
talking some sense into me."

Kitty shrugged. "It's ok. I just hope you're
ok. And you should probably come back inside...
There's only so much good which can come of glaring at
a wall."

Alex glanced at the wall one more time before standing
up, laughing slightly. "You're right...just for some
reason I always find myself here when something
happens between me and Lorna...I just hope this is the
last time..." He put his hands in the pocket of his
sweatshirt and began to walk inside with Kitty. "And I
think I'm okay... Time might have to be the judge on
that as well...But right now, thanks to you, I'm
okay."

"Sounds like my parlour in the east wing. One of these
days Cain's going to get around to renovating
that and I'll have to find a new hide out...
But I'm glad I could help."

Glancing over his shoulder one last time at the wall, Alex smiled. "You did..." Now, I just hope your right...about everything. he thought to himself as they walked inside.
