Angelo and Cecilia
Sep. 15th, 2004 10:03 pmThey get to talking after First Aid class, and she gives him some interesting - if ironic - careers advice.
As First Aid class ended, Angelo set about gathering up the mess of papers and books on his desk. Glancing up as he finished doing so, he realized almost everybody else was gone, and Cecilia was waiting for him to leave so she could lock up.
Cecilia grinned wryly when Angelo noticed her, leaning back against her desk with her own folder of papers loosely held in hand. "Don't rush on my account. I don't have anywhere else to be."
Angelo grinned back sheepishly, picking up his stuff. "All done now. Sorry."
"Nothing to apologize for," Cecilia replied dismissively, shaking her head. "Better not to forget anything." Grinning, she straightened up, and gestured towards the door. "After you?"
He nodded, pulling open the door when he got there and holding it automatically. "You got any more classes to take today?"
"To take, no," Cecilia chuckled, inclining her head in silent thanks as she passed out into the hall. "Bio in an hour and a half, then I'm back to homework. What about you?"
He nodded. "Usual class load. I'm makin' up my credits so I can apply to college next year if I want. Would've been done last year, but I skipped a bit too much school in LA."
"It happens," Cecilia replied agreeably. Not to her, though - skip school? Who'd want to do something ridiculous like that? "So, if you decide to go to college next year.. got anything in mind?"
He shrugged lightly. "History, maybe. Or languages. Humanities, anyway." He bit back a comment about not being much for science, remembering that he was talking to someone who definitely was.
She, apparently, had no such compunctions. "History makes my head hurt," Cecilia replied with a shrug. "But, so long as you do something you enjoy or at least believe in, you won't be wasting your time."
He nodded with a grin. "Different strokes for different folks - Kitty's tried to explain the physics she's studyin' to me, a couple of times, but I just don't get it."
"Nothing to be ashamed of there. I'm told she's quite the genius. Get Hank going, he'll go on about her for hours if you let him." Cecilia grinned.
Angelo nodded, smiling. "That she is. Scary-smart, even. I keep tellin' her, she should go for Ivy League. Scholarship or whatever, she'd be a sure thing."
Cecilia couldn't help but make a face. "Ivy League is expensive," she said slowly, rubbing her forehead. "But, if she could afford it somehow, no reason not to do it."
Angelo nodded. "Yeah, I know that's a problem. But if she got a scholarship, maybe, it'd be really good for her."
Cecilia nodded, then paused, and grinned sidelong at Angelo. "You do realize we're talking more about someone else's future than yours, don't you?"
Angelo chuckled. "Yeah - but hers is more certain than mine. I mean, I know I'll do somethin', an' more than I would've done back in LA, but exactly what's still a bit up in the air."
"You've got time," Cecilia nodded, keeping her grin. "I suppose I'm lucky - I've known what I'll be doing for a long time, never any question in my mind."
He nodded. "Well, medicine's a bit of a special case, I guess. Not just a matter of bein' interested in it - takes so long to get qualified, you'd have to really, really want to."
Cecilia shook her head, chuckling. "It takes just as much work to get into anything else, if you're driven, Angelo. I'll grant you the extra time for pre-med, but it isn't as much work as you might think. Though that may just be my whacked-out sense of what counts as a lot of work talkin'."
He nodded pensively. "Got no idea where I want college to take me, if I go. An' even that depends on how much it costs." With a wry grin, he added, "Not really the scholarship kind."
"Well, let's see," Cecilia murmured thoughtfully, giving Angelo a quick looking-over. "What sorts of things do you enjoy doing?"
He gave her a crooked smile. "Most of all? Phys-ed type things. Sparrin' with Sarah an' Nathan's always fun. Thinkin' more school-wise, Nate's language classes are cool. Wouldn't mind keepin' that up, after."
"Sparring and languages, huh?" Cecilia tilted her head, thinking. "You should talk to Madelyn, I think. Beating things up while speaking ten languages sounds pretty law enforcement-y to me, and she could tell you more about it than I could."
Angelo paused for a moment, thinking about that, then laughed a little. "Law enforcement. Well, wouldn't that be ironic. But 's worth considerin', definitely."
"One thing I've learned is that life has a fondness for irony," Cecilia observed with a wry smile, shooting a pointed look upwards. "Bastard. But, yeah, something in that kind of field might be worth considering."
"I'd forgotten Madelyn used to be FBI", he answered thoughtfully. "I'll go down an' see her sometime soon, then, see what she thinks."
Cecilia nodded approvingly. "Always the option of talking to Mister Lee, too, see if there might be work available for you here once you've graduated."
He nodded in return. "Yeah, that could work out well - let me get some money together for college or experience for if I don't go. I'll probably be stayin' local, whichever."
"Can understand wanting to stay local," Cecilia grinned. "I'll keep thinking on it, and let you know if I think of anything else."
With a grin of his own, he answered, "Well, Paige's gonna be on the teams, an' if she's stayin', so am I. Everyone I care about's in New York State, anyway. Thanks for this."
For a moment, Cecilia looked a bit puzzled, before 'teams' translated to 'the super-human uber samurai squad in the basement', and she nodded slowly. "Hey, anytime. Glad to help."
Still grinning, he realized their wanderings had taken them to the library. "This is where I stop, I think. Homework."
Cecilia glanced up, blinking once. "Good stop," she agreed approvingly, thinking for a moment before drawing in a deep breath. "I should probably see if I can track Shan down, now I think about it. I'll let you go hunt for books, and I'll go hunt for the book-keeper."
He chuckled as they headed inside. "Okay then - good talkin' to you. Helpful, too. Thanks again for the advice."
"Like I said, anytime," Cecilia grinned, casting a quick look around. "You know where I am if you need anything."
He nodded with a smile, waving a quick goodbye as he wandered into the stacks. "Sure do. I'll be by."
