Manuel and Kitty Pryde - Dance Hall Days
Sep. 9th, 2004 07:47 pmWho: Manuel de la Rocha, Kitty Pryde
Where: Kitty's Suite
When: Sept 9th, 2004
What Happens: They talk about the HeliX dance, and about Manuel's perception of Jamie's perception of Manuel. He offers her a dance, she accepts.
OOC: My apologies for this going up so late. Entirely my fault.
Manuel scanned briefly with his power, to make sure that there was no-one else in Katherine's suite. Sensing no-one, he knocked upon her door. "Katherine? It's Manuel. May I have a moment of your time?" he called through the closed door.
Kitty looked up, startled at hearing her full name. Recognizing Maneul`s voice voice she set her book down on the table next to her chair and headed over to open the door. "Hi," she said, still looking a little confused. "Sure, what`s up." The confusion was certainly the most prominent emotion, but it was more complicated than just simple confusion.
Manuel leaned against her doorjamb and tried his very hardest to seem nonthreatening. "I wanted to thank you for the kind words about the HeliX party." he said. "And I owe you a rather large apology for my behavior when I was dampened. May I come in, or can we talk in your lounge?"
"Yeah, sure," Kitty said, stepping back to let Manuel into the common area of the suite where she`d been reading. "You don`t need to thank me about the Helix thing. I still think we all need to get out of here occasionaly or we go more crazy than we already are." She didn`t say anything about the other matter, but there was a tensing of her shoulders as her internal confusion increased.
Internal Conflict, especially given the emotional aspect, was as clear as day to his power. "I was wrong to ask you to remove the dampener. I
have no excuses, save that I was not entirely in my right mind. I know that this probably means nothing, but I offer it as an explanation
anyway. As far as HeliX goes, I have been wanting to go for quite some time, but every time I broached the topic with Jamie, he goes ballistic. I know that he fears my power, and he has a powerful dislike for my behaviors, and in all honesty I share most of those feelings." Manuel said.
"I don`t think," Kitty started, then paused and considered what she was saying. "I don`t think Jamie`s problems with you are that much about, um, fearing your powers. I don`t know, we haven`t really talked about it. As for the other..." She stoped, forcing herself to breathe in deeply, pushing her thoughts away from the feelings that the incident had caused and calming down. "I agree, you shouldn`t have asked, but I`m not surprised you did and I don`t really fault you for it."
"I've felt it." he said simply. "There is a large amount of personal dislike, and that is his perogative. But he fears what I can do. But he is neither here nor there - I was more interested in apologizing for my behavior before you went to your parents, and for the invite to HeliX. I still may not be able to attend - the decision is in Senor Xavier's hands."
Kitty nodded, agreeing at least that the issue with Jamie was not really relevant. "Well, thank you for the apology, and you`re welcome. Hopefully the Professor will let you go, because I think you`d have just as much fun as the rest of us."
"I am somewhat skeptical, but it will be good for me, I think. I have not dealt with normals socially in about five years. Since before I was incarcerated." he mused, and then smiled charmingly at Kitty. "If I do wind up attending, would you do this poor wretch the great honor of a dance? I can promise you that I can keep up with you - I'm a much better dancer than I look. I think that, despite everything, we might, possibly, even be friends someday."
Kitty smiled at this. "Well, I never turn down a friend," she said. "I think a dance would be nice." However, she made a mental note to at least tell Jamie about it in advance - it would not be good for anyone if there was a fight in the middle of the party.
Manuel was no telepath, but he could sense the brief wash of wariness. "Or perhaps not. I would not cause you troubles with Jamie." he said
with a shrug. "If you are willing, approach me at the party. I waltz like nobody's business."
It wasn`t really so much wariness as thoughtfullness, so Kitty was rather startled that Manuel had picked up on it. "No, really, I meant it. I think a dance would be very nice. Don`t worry about me and Jamie - that`s my business."
Manuel shrugged just slightly. "I am trying not to give people any more ammunition to use against me." he said flatly. "But I look forward to the dance."
Kitty nodded. "Yes, I can understand that, I guess," she said.
