Angelo and Jono, backdated
Sep. 14th, 2004 02:42 pmAngelo meets Jono at the door when he comes home and takes him to their new suite. Upon which, Jono sees what Jubilee and co did to his room, and has an amusing reaction.
One could never do a thing at Xavier's without everyone knowing about it within the next five minutes. So it really wasn't a surprise for Jono to find Angelo waiting for him when he dragged himself inside and wondered if he should start guessing where the new room was and had they taken proper care of his guitar. He lifted his chin in greeting and shuffled over to his roommate. "Fancy meeting you here", he said, tiredly almost.
Angelo chuckled, with a quick wave."Well.You don't know where we're livin' now, an' who better'n me to show you?You got any stuff needs carryin'?" "Just this. And I can handle it."
Jono lifted the bag that was dangling from his hand. He'd left only the tips of his fingers without wrapping. "Who'd you get to move all my things?"
"Did it myself", Angelo answered casually."Passed an afternoon, between yours an' mine." He noticed Jono's almost mummified state with a fleeting frown, but didn't mention it - it wasn't like they didn't both know what was going on.
"Yeah? Too bad Logan wasn't around to help this time." Jono was of course referring to the time he moved back up from the boiler room. If he noticed Angelo's frown, he gave no sign of it. As if pretending things were all right actually made them all right."There's been some changes", he said vaguely, looking around.
Angelo followed his glance."How d'you mean?" he asked, puzzled.
"The rooms, new people." Jono made a sweeping gesture. "Suppose it's stupid to expect things to stay the same." Emma had said much the same, telling him to stop living in the past and face what was happening.
Angelo nodded. "Got a few new people, yeah", he answered, trying to remember who had arrived since Jono had been gone. "Paige's brother showed up, an' we got a librarian now. Her name's Shan, she's nice. Brought her little brother an' sister along - oh, an' Shiro brought his kid sister back from Japan, too, so we've now got five little kids."
"More Guthries?" Jono raised his eyebrows. "I shouldn't be surprised. They probably constitute for half of the mutant population on this continent." He shifted his bag from one hand to the other. "So, where's the new room?"
Angelo nodded and started walking as Jono followed. "This way - Marko finished fixing up the other wing, so everybody's in there now while he works on the old one. An' it's a suite - two rooms an' a lounge thing."
"Private rooms?" Jono looked at Angelo in surprise. "I thought they'd struck 'privacy' from the dictionary around here."
Angelo grinned. "Only for the under-eighteens, apparently. We get rooms to ourselves."
"This age thing seems to be paying off." The thought seemed to cheer Jono up a little at least. "And no more dog hair in my bed. Or on my clothes."
Angelo shot him a mock-glare. "Hey, she was very good about sleepin' on your bed. Sorry about the clothes."
"She only did it when you weren't around to see", Jono replied, although he'd only caught the puppy on his bed twice. "It's all right about the clothes. Soon I'll stop wearing any."
Angelo blinked at him, and could only protest weakly, "Hey. Don't talk like that."
"Like what?" Jono looked over his shoulder at the hallway, making sure he'd know how to find the room later. "Realistically?"
"Nothin's final yet", Angelo pointed out quietly. "There's still time for them to fix this."
Jono shrugged. "That'd be nice, but I don't like to get my hopes up."
Angelo shrugged too, a little unhappily. "Well, I guess you gotta deal with it your own way."
Jono nodded, shifting his bag from hand to hand. "So Sarah's got her basement room still?" he asked suddenly, changing the subject.
Angelo nodded. "Yeah, she does. They weren't gonna force her to come upstairs, not when everybody knows how much she hates heights."
"That's good." Jono felt pleased for her. "What about Paige?"
Angelo grinned suddenly. "She's roomin' with Jubilee, of all people. Wasn't quite eighteen yet when we moved rooms, an' she's stayed there."
The expression on Jono's face was like he'd eaten an extremely sour lemon. "Jubilee? What happened to Amanda?"
"Amanda's in with Marie-Ange now. Everybody moved around, pretty much."
"Suppose I'll get used to it." Jono sounded a bit doubtful, though. "If not, well, I'm not exactly the social type anymore."
Angelo nodded. "Well, like I said. You got a room to yourself now - the key's in my room since you weren't here when we moved."
"Thanks for moving my stuff", Jono said just as Angelo stopped in front of a door, looking expectant. "So this is it?"
Angelo nodded, unlocking the door and heading inside, holding it open. "This is it. Hold on, let me go find the key."
It was strange, feeling a bit like when he'd arrived at the mansion over a year ago. The same waiting around for people to get him situated, the same getting used to the turns and steps to his room. He hadn't particularly kept in touch with Bobby, Ev or John since moving into the boiler room, and suddenly wondered how they were. Even if they still lived in the mansion as well. "Yeah. Thanks. Again." Jono followed Angelo, and looked about the lounge area.
Angelo came back with the two keys a moment later, handed them to Jono, and hovered in the common area, trying not to laugh, as he waited for the inevitable reaction.
Jono took the keys, and headed for the door. He had to drop the bag to get it open, and the first thing he did was to locate the light switch. Then he stopped moving and just stared.
Angelo was still lurking, debating whether or not he should lock himself in his room before Jono figured out how they had to have got in.
Slowly, almost mechanically, Jono turned and gave Angelo a look of mixed horror and near-invisible amusement. "I think I'll just go see if Sarah's in her room."
"It's all reversible, you know", Angelo told him hastily. "An' it was Jubilee's idea."
"Brilliant", Jono took a step toward the outer door. "I'm blind."
Angelo laughed. "Oh - Clarice brought in the black sparkly stuff. She thought you'd like it."
"I'll be sure to thank them once I get my eyesight back." A few more steps and Jono was at the door. "Don't wait up."
One could never do a thing at Xavier's without everyone knowing about it within the next five minutes.
