Lockheed gets introduced to the mice and Frank in an effort to further emphasize rule number two.

Lockheed settled down into Kitty's arms, staring around him as she walked down the hall way. It was the best way to travel.

Reaching Amanda and Angie's suite she rapped on the door. "Heya. You in?"

There was a muffled thump, some words which sounded vaguely like cursing in Latin, and then Amanda opened the door, ruefully rubbing her elbow. "Hey, Kit-Kat," she said, grinning. "Caught me doin' some levitation practice... Hey, that's the new arrival? You were right, he _is_ cute."

Kitty hefted Lockheed as he started to preen. "Yep, this is Lockheed. Awfully vain, but cute enough to get away with it. How goes the levitation?"

"That he is." Amanda reached out slowly and let him sniff at her hand before gently scritching his head behind the eye ridges. "An' the levitation... well, it goes all right, 'til I reach me limits, then it goes very fast towards the floor." She stepped aside from the doorway to let Kitty in. "So, the dust settlin' after the ruckus this little bloke caused?"

Interesting new smells and scritches? Lockheed was in heaven. He was torn between the smells on the hand giving him scritchies and the scritchies themselves but, as usual, the scritches won.

"Yeah, I can believe that about levitation, actually. Am working on my own form, but it's different. As for the ruckus..." Kitty shrugged. "Kind of. Illyana hates him, and I want to find Ms. Reyes and apologize, but otherwise it's ok."

"Yeah, solidifyin' at the wrong time'd be a bit on the painful side, I reckon. An' possibly messy, dependin' on how wrong the time is." Amanda chuckled as Lockheed arched his neck a little to let her scritch his favourite places. "Oh, yer a charmer, all right. The Ice Princess don't know what she's missin', does she?" she cooed at him. "No eatin' people for you, eh?" Lockheed made a vaguely approving purring noise, and she grinned. "Smart as well as cute - he's gunna keep you on yer toes, that's for sure. As for the doc-in-trainin'... it ain't so much yer fault, or his. Just her not bein' able t' deal with a change in her world view. Like Jamers said, 's like when I turned up an' proved magic ain't just in the storybooks or on telly. She'll either come 'round, or avoid you, like she does me."

"Yeah, I know," Kitty sighed. "I still feel bad. Especially after what Paul said in my journal. Honestly, it was out of line."

"An' then some. For someone who made a name for himself with the mutant rights thing, he wasn't bein' terribly understandin'. Fuck, _I_ understand where she's comin' from, an' I'm one of the things wiggin' her out." Leading the way into the suite, Amanda waved a hand at the sofa whilst heading for the fridge. "You want a soft drink or somethin'? Still got some juice in here, if Leyu an' Nga didn't finish it..."

"Whatever'd be fine," Kitty said, following Amanda. She was about to set Lockheed down on one of the chairs, then paused. "Hey, is M-A about? Angelo mentioned the mice and I figure it'd be good to reinforce rule number two: no eating pets."

"Not right now - think she's tryin' t' prise Doug out of his room again. But she's cool with me handlin' 'em, so long as yer bloke doesn't actually eat 'em. That'd be tricky t' explain." Pulling two cans of soda out of the fridge, Amanda passed one to Kitty. "An' we could kill two birds with one stone, introduce him t' Frank. See what they make of each other."

"Thanks," Kitty said, taking the soda. "That sounds perfect. And don't worry, I won't let him eat them." She gave the dragon a serious look. "Hear that? No eating. Think he'll like Frank, though," she added.

"Too bad Manny ain't around - he'd be able t' tell me what Frank thinks of Lockheed. Actually, that'd be interesting t' see, what kind of emotional stuff he gets from a dragon. Seein' how he's smarter than yer average critter." Amanda opened the door to the room she and Marie-Ange shared and waved Kitty in. "'Scuse the mess - we were practicin' her pre-cog again last night, usin' tea leaves an' such, an' we had a bit too much caffiene..." There were several used tea cups lying around, and sheets of paper with various squiggles and nonsense words and sketches. "Not exactly informative, that one."

Kitty giggled. "Well, you never know exactly what will turn out to be informative. And I'm actually really curious about just how clever Lockheed is. I mean, he acts like he knows what I'm saying pretty much all of the time, but when Doug tried to talk to him he got nothing."
"Which could just mean he's even smarter than you realise, not givin' away his secrets," said Amanda with a grin. She set her drink down on the cluttered desk and approached the mouse cage where the Three Fates, as she called them, were housed. "Just warnin' you, 'Heed, you take a nibble of one of these guys an' it ain't just 'Yana you'll have t' worry 'bout. Don't meddle in the affairs of witches' roomies an' all that," she told the dragon sternly. Or as sternly as she could with a mouse doing its best to run up her arm and into her shirt.

"Heh, there's an idea." Kitty's grip was tight on the dragon as Amanda pulled out the first of the mice, but he didn't struggle against it. He reached out his snout to sniff at the interesting smelling, small and wriggly thing, and almost certainly if he hadn't been so severely warned against it he would have gone for more than a nibble. As it was, Lockheed snuffled, wuffled, and then sneezed before turning to consider the rest of the room.

"Well, that seems to be that," Kitty said, shrugging. Who knew why Lockheed would try to take a bite out of Jamie, but not the mouse.

"Told you he was clever. Messin' with Angie's mice'd be more trouble than they're worth." Amanda returned the mouse to its cage, where it started running grateful circles of its exercise wheel. "You have any trouble with him takin' a dislike t' anyone? Seems he's pretty agreeable." She moved over to Frank's tank as she spoke, lifting the iguana out. "An' ain't you gettin' fat an' lazy, hmm?" she said to the lizard, laying him on her arm, where he blinked up at her with faint disinterest. "I know 's gettin' on for hibernatin' time, but this is ridiculous."

"Not really," Kitty said. "More trouble people disliking him than him disliking people, although he gives Jamie grief sometimes." And wasn't that just the silliest thing, Kitty thought as she followed Amanda again.

Lockheed perked up again at the sight of Frank. It looked kind of like a dragon and smelled kind of like a dragon, but it clearly wasn't...

"Sounds like he's got a jealous streak," Amanda snickered, watching Lockheed's head perk up and his nostrils flare slightly, an action that was mimicked by Frank. "Well, he's got Lazy's attention at least, so he's doin' better than me lately." She sat on the bed, carefully putting Frank on the floor, ready to grab him wiht her TK spell if she needed to get him out of the way quickly.

Frank peered around, surprised by the sudden new perspective, although still very curious at the new lizard-y smell he was getting. Not a girl-lizard, unfortunately...

Lockheed's long neck twisted so he could follow the other 'dragon' as it moved towards the floor. Obviously it was another pet, and thus not-food, but that didn't make it any less interesting...

"Yeah, that's what Jamie says, too," Kitty agreed as she set Lockheed down. "It seems really, really silly to me, but there you have it."

Once actually on the ground, the 'dragon' became reachable, and Lockheed walked forward, sniffing, trying to figure out why it smelled so funny.

Frank hissed slightly, but stood his ground as the new 'lizard' approached. Something stirred in his sluggish brain, a sensation of weightlessness, and warmth... Sniffing cautiously, he decided the newcomer wasn't an immediate threat, and took a step or two towards him.

"So far, so good," Amanda murmured, watching her pet with a certain amount of vigilance. True, Frank was far more attached to Manny than her, but she had grown fond of the scaly critter. Especially after Asgard. "Wonder if he remembers bein' a dragon at all, in Asgard?"

Lockheed's head turned swiftly to regard Amanda before going back to the 'dragon'. He wuffled at it, and then went, "Coo," settling back on his haunches about a foot away and spreading out his wings.

"Was he? A dragon, I mean?" Kitty asked, looking startled. She hadn't heard this story.

"Didn't Jamers tell you?" Watching as Frank observed Lockheed's wingspread with an impassive expression (that being the only expression he was capable of, really), Amanda went on. "Turned out that when we got snatched, Frank went to, an' somehow turned into a dragon. Not a very clever one," she added, with an apologetic glance at her pet. "Since he couldn't talk or anythin', but he had the wings an' the fiery breath an' all. Alison found him an' used him t' crash Mo... the Enchantress's castle. Made a right mess. The spell got reversed when I get a de-cursin', but I wonder sometimes if he remembers it at all."

"No, I think the only dragon that Jamie mentioned was Frylaf." She shrugged. "But that sounds like another vote for him to end up being able to breath fire, unfortunately."

"Maybe it depends on what you feed 'em?" Amanda suggested. "'S like a... what do they call it in science... an adaptation? You eat people an' cows an' the like, so you need t' be able t' breathe fire. You get feed bits of steak an' whatever, so you don't..." At that point Frank chose to make a vague attempt to chew on Lockheed's nose, and Amanda scooped him up before Lockheed returned the favour. "Or you could be vegetarian an' just plain grumpy," she added, rolling her eyes at her pet.

Lockheed pulled back quickly, paws going up over his much abused nose. It wasn't fair. He wasn't allowed to eat any of the other pets, but they all seemed to be allowed to go after his nose.

"Here's hoping you're right, and he never ends up setting the lawn on fire," Kitty agreed, leaning down to pick up the dragon. "I think one pyromaniac is all we really need around here, and John's got the position pretty well filled."

"'M a witch, we're supposed t' know about the care an' feedin' of dragons," Amanda said with a grin. "An' we can't have John gettin' his nose out of joint 'cause someone cuter's stealing his thunder, can we?"

"Glad to know somebody does." Kitty matched Amanda's grin. "Be careful, though, or I'll hold you to that."

Aw! Al's all nostalgic about the flying a-dragon back now. ;)

Okay, the talk of eating habits gave me the strangest mental image.... I've got this upcoming mini-plot about Rahne bringing in a deer (or so), and now I'm envisioning her getting Lockheed to help. *giggles* Probably in the "scare deer in proper direction" sense unless it waits until he's much bigger, and maybe it's a Very Bad Idea, but it's still funny.

Probably in a couple of weeks. I need to get some presentations prepared for lab and a flat tire repaired or replaced, and Rahne needs to ask the Professor whether he minds and if she should be looking into a license or something. ;) And Lockheed may not be quite flying yet then, I don't know. But I was thinking it might be nice if she got one by herself, anyway, and then maybe if Lockheed evinces interest in the deer, they could "discuss" hunting together later on. Either later this season or next year, depending on when he's up to it. ;) I figure there are enough deer around she might be able to get multiple ones.
