Scott gets the promised surfing lesson. He really, really sucks at it.

He was going to kill himself laughing. He really was. Snickering helplessly, Scott stumbled out of the water, telling himself that no, he did not get to leave the evil surfboard behind. It was a rental, and it needed to go back to where it came from, even if it had tried to kill him...

Alex had already thrown his rental board in the sand and was lying next to it, holding his sides laughing. It took a him a couple minutes before he was able to even take a deep breath. He had just witnessed the funniest thing ever. Scott *attempting* to surf.

"Your fault!" Scott accused his little brother gleefully. "You suck as an instructor! That's the problem."

Sitting up to look at his brother, a big smile on his face, Alex responded while still slightly out of breath. "Can I help both your balance and your timing sucks? You couldn't even get on the board!" That just made him erupt into giggles again.

Scott fell over onto the sand next to him, still trying very hard to stop laughing. Oh, his ribs were going to hurt. "Then you picked me a cursed surfboard. I am NOT that uncoordinated! Really!"

Alex snorted between laughs. "A cursed surfboard? That was all you my bro!" That did it, he was laughing too hard to talk now.

"Brat," Scott accused, leaning over to ruffle Alex's hair. "You pick me a cursed surfboard and then laugh at me. Really nice. Remind me to smother you in your sleep tonight."

His nose wrinkled as his wet hair was tossled, but he didn't say anything as Scott was smiling, a first in days. He could be a good little brother. "You smother me in my sleep and your going to have one pissed girlfriend and another pissed room mate to deal with. Plus it was great stuff to watch! My perfect big brother humbling himself on a surfboard. Classic dude!" Alex playfully stuck out his tongue.

"You think I need humbling?" Scott asked, still good-naturedly. "Haven't been paying much attention to my life lately, have you." He reached out and poked Alex in the ribs.

Alex squeaked then moved away from the invading hand. "Hey! You know what I meant. Humbling in something that isn't life or death...and was fun no matter how good you are." He laid back in the sand, smiling at being back in his element. "Admit it. You had fun!"

"I did. Although I'm really glad I brought the goggles. Would've lost my glasses half a dozen times out there." Scott leaned back on his elbows and stared out at the water. "This really is beautiful, you know," he said after a moment, the laughter finally dying down to quiet appreciation.

Alex closed his eyes, a knowing smile on his face. "Yeah, it is isn't it? Peaceful too...Now you know why I miss it so much..." His voice had gone from laughing to quiet contentment.

Scott looked sideways at him, smiling. "I'd miss you, you know," he said. "If you decide to come here for college... but you love it so much. I can tell. I just want to see you happy, Alex, wherever you are."

Alex cracked his eyes open, looking up at Scott. "Really? Because...I really do love it here. And I know I'll miss you and the mansion...but I feel like I belong here, ya know? Thanks Scott..."

"Hey, don't thank me." Scott shrugged, but kept smiling. "Just recognizing the obvious. And it's not as if we'd never see each other again even if you did wind up here. I mean, we've got teleporters who hop to Russia to break into libraries."

"Hey, don't joke about the 'never seeing each other again,' we did that already remember?" Alex joked, before sitting up, brushing sand off his back. "Yeah I'm sure I'm going to be getting regular visits from Shiro and Clarice. I'm just the luckiest boy on earth though that Lorna is coming here with me..."

"Lucky," Scott agreed quietly, still smiling as he looked back out at the water. "I suppose we really ought to be heading back to the hotel and getting ready for the campus tour soon, huh?"

Alex nodded, a bit sadly as he gazed out over the water, before hopping up and grabbing his surfboard. "Yeah, you're right. Come on slowpoke, let's take the cursed surfboard back so you can't blame it anymore." He laughed as he ran few steps to dodge any attacks

"Definitely, smothering you in your sleep," Scott confirmed before he gave in to the rather silly impulse and chased him.

You and me both. It's raining...that ought to work as well as a cold shower, right?

And yeah, goggle-vision for learning to surf? Surefire recipe for humorous disaster.
