Character's involved: Remy, Jubilee
Date:Tuesday 2nd November 2004 Time: 11:00pm
What happens: Jubilee is down by the lake, waiting for people to come kick her arse. She notices Remy and they talk.

Jubilee skipped a rock across the water of the lake, watching ripples spread outwards as it bounced three times before sinking. She'd assumed if anyone was going to come and curse her out for what she'd done, the lake was a good place for it. At least getting thrown into it wouldn't hurt too much. Although, if she popped her stitches Mads was so not going to be impressed with her. She supposed that the last bit she'd put in her journal had been somewhat dramatic but it would save having people jumping on her at random intervals later on.

The plock, plock, plock noise of the skipping stone carried well in the evening stillness, and Remy idly watched the rock sail past the end of the dock before sinking to the bottom. He was in his customary position for the evenings, leaning against the railings by the mid point of the dock, looking out over the water and enjoying a cigarette. He told Cain he liked being out here, so he could think. Cain said he was just posing for the girls who liked angsty mysterious men. Remy smiled slightly at that, seeing the touch of truth. There was something about middle-aged pain and teenaged psyche that was just tailored for melodrama.

Speaking of melodrama, Remy considered, as he caught sight of Jubilee, sending another rock skipping across the lake. It took her a moment but she finally noticed the smoke coming from the dock of the boathouse and realised there was someone else out here. She shrugged and walked toward Remy, they'd never met other then passing each other in the halls. Since no one had yet turned up to throw her in the lake, she might as well do something constructive with her time.

"Hey, you're Remy, right?" she called.

"Give the 'tite a candy, got it in one." he replied before putting the cigarette to his lips. Not the talkative type then, it would seem. She shrugged and kept walking, drawing up beside the Cajun and taking up a position beside him. Never let it be said that Jubilee couldn't do enough talking for two people given any situation.

"I'm Jubilee, don't think we ever met when you were here before. So, you know, hiya, welcome to the Xavier Institute...marauding soldiers and demon attacks to the left. There now, standard greeting all done. Uh, don't know if you saw my journal entry. I'm kinda waitin' for the angry mob and pitchforks right now."

"Dat mean dey have a reason to?" Remy said, pitching his cigarette into the water and pulling a new one from the pack. He offered it, and Jubilee shook her head. He shrugged and lit a new one with the tip of his finger.

"Some people do. Some don't. Like, who knows with this place?" She said, throwing up her hands.

"Dat's de truth." Remy shuffled over so she could lean. "So, do you think you did something wrong?"

"Didn't at the time I did it. Now? Well, almost got several people killed and one of my classmates taken ta hell, it fits into the 'Things I really shouldn't have done.' column, ya know?"

She looked at his hands, and remembered that he'd lit the cigarette with a finger. "How'd you do that?" she asked, lifting her hand and setting of some small fireworks. "I tried doin' that, I'd probably blow someone's face off."

"Charge something as small as de tip of a cigarette, and only de dust ignites. Not exactly de same power, chere." Remy said, blowing out a smoke ring. "So, I guess dat has something to do wit' dat demon thing?"

"Sh'yeah. Only ate a club whole and nearly had the rest of us for dessert."

"And you summoned it?"

"NO! I-" Jubilee paused. "I-"

"Did something that allowed it to happen den?"

"Gave the guy that summoned it what he needed to do it. Least, that's what I found out. He sent me a bunch of flowers with a thankyou note." Jubilee muttered. "The fuckin' bastard played me. I shoulda known it was a hustle. I've played guys like him for chumps before. Seemed like a walk in the park, ya know? I got arrogant...stupidest fuckin' mistake you can make and I shoulda seen it."

She was angry with herself, felt guilty about how things had turned out. She had no idea where Remy was going with this, or whether he was just asking because he was curious.

"So dat's de problem. You let something happen." Remy took a long drag of his cigarette and looked back out over the lake. "Tough road to take, petite."

"That's your advice?" Jubilee said incredulously.

"Not advice, chere. Dat's not really Remy's strong suit." He smiled, red on black eyes lit up in the dim light. "You fucked up, and now you have to make up for it. You plan all dis from de beginning? If not, den it's just dat; a fuck-up."

She smiled suddenly, and then burst out laughing. "Oh boy. Dude, you are so not what I'm used to, ya know that? I've been up there, hearin' about how much I'm a bad person cause I run on instincts and how I gotta be more mature. And then ya ask 'em what they want you to do and they say 'Ya gotta work that out yerself, s'too easy otherwise'. God help you if you fuck that up though. And ya know, the thing is, I want to be better. I want them to stop lookin' at me like I'm somethin' that stuck to their shoe and they gotta get rid of it."

"Sometimes instincts will keep you alive, chere." Remy said. "And sometimes they'll get you killed. No matter what anyone tells you, dere are things you can't control. Good decisions lead to bad results. Stupid actions turn out to save the day. Life's like dat. Best Remy can figure is dat you do your best to smart your way through it, and make up for de screw-ups you make."

Jubilee gave him a look and he smiled, spreading his arms wide.

"Consider me den. Any sane person would have sent me to de nearest prison and told dem to set de chair to flambe. Dat's de smart solution." Remy shrugged. "But is is de right one? Guess dat remains to be seen."

"Don't know about smart, never really had any kinda thought on you before, to be honest. We didn't talk, and then you were suddenly this big bad we had to run away from. But considerin' ya ain't tried ta cut my head off or drinkin' me blood right now, I think I'll give ya the benefit of the doubt." she replied.

"Remy already ate, chere." He said jokingly. "Look, if you fucked things up, try and fix dem. If dey think you something bad, work on being something good. Dere not much else you can do. And if dey pull you up for your mistakes while you're doing dat, guess what dat makes dem?" Remy ran his fingers through his now shorter hair. "It not going t' be easy, Jubilee. But it's not supposed t' be either."

She nodded, leaning out over the rail and looking at the water below. "Probably some of the better advice I've gotten lately. I'm gonna try, anyhow. If it's hard, then it's hard. Never shrunk away from that before. So, what about you?"

"Trying to do de same." Remy said. "Lot of things dat I have to make up for. Some pretty big fuck ups, and not all of dem can be blamed on Gambit. De Professor is a better man den he should be, and agreed t' let Remy try."

"Things like?"

"Things you don't want to know and dat I don't want to explain. I was about a evil as a man could be, and enjoyed it far too much. Take more den a lifetime to even de score."

"Chuck's pretty good at givin' second chances. If he thinks you're worth one, then I ain't gonna worry too much about yer past. I should probably be gettin' back, in case someone actually wants ta talk to me. Hey, you mind if I come by again? Wouldn't mind gettin' to know you, now that we've met and all. Unless I'd be buggin' ya." she said, pushing away from the rail.

"It's either you or listen to Cain tell football stories from de fifties, so I guess I can be free." Remy said, watching her disappear up the trail and back into the house.
