They meet up in the kitchen and have breakfast. Short and sweet.

Madelyn stumbled into the kitchen, stifling a yawn. Moira had just relieved her - morning light was just breaking through the windows - and all Madelyn had in mind was food and then sleep. And in that order; there had been the odd occasion where she'd gotten them mixed up and woken to find a pancake stuck to the side of her face from falling asleep on the plate. She was standing at the refrigerator, staring blearily into it and attempting to coax out something resembling breakfast when Kurt came in.

"Here, brekkie, brekkie, brekkie," she was crooning to the 'fridge. "Don't make me come in there and find you."

He watched her in some amusement, tempered with concern. "I do not think it will come out when you call it, Madelyn", he spoke up finally. "Would you like me to see if I can find something?"

"You never know in this house - I keep expecting the food to mutate or something. Or for Jamie to rig a way of making it dance," Madelyn said, blushing a little. "Or I could be completely insane. I suppose this isn't the time I tell you I call my favourite hypodermic Mr Pointy?" She looked at him curiously. "We're in between crises - what are you doing up so late? Couldn't sleep?"

"I have just got up", he answered lightly. "I like to watch the sun rise."

Madelyn looked at him in horror. "On _purpose_?"

Kurt laughed. "Yes, on purpose. It became a habit when I was growing up, and the sunrises are quite beautiful here."

"Well, sunrise is a habit for me as well, but generally because I've stayed up all night. They tend to lose their charm that way." Madelyn finally spotted the coffee maker and pounced, pouring one for herself before looking over her shoulder at Kurt. "Want one? And I believe someone was taunting me with the offer of breakfast?"

"Coffee for breakfast sounds like a good trade", he answered cheerfully, moving towards the fridge. "What would you like?"

"What I would _like_ is something horribly sugary and bad for me. What I _should_ have is something a little more healthy." Madelyn poured a mug of coffee for Kurt and put it on the counter for him to add sugar and cream as he wanted. "Would eggs of some sort be pushing the friendship? I can make toast. I'm good at that." She was unashamedly using the Pitiful Look, the one that said 'I'm a poor overworked doctor who needs feeding'. It worked on Alison, well at least sometimes, so she figured Kurt would be a pushover.

He grinned, reaching into the door of the fridge. "I can do eggs, certainly. How many?"

"Two? Scrambled?" Madelyn pulled her nose out of her coffee mug - it was the extra-large one Lorna kept for Hank, and she practically needed two hands to lift it - and leaned over the counter to grab the bread. "Are you joining me? I wouldn't mind the company of someone who isn't growling at me to stop poking them and give them painkillers already. In a Spanish accent, no less."

He smiled, bringing four eggs out of the fridge and going in search of a jug. "I would be happy to. Are you eating here, or somewhere else?"

She glanced at the windows, where it was proving to indeed be a sunny morning. "On the porch? You can sell me on the virtues of the sunrise," she said with a grin, sliding two pieces of bread into the toaster but not pushing the button just yet, before stirring herself to find plates. And juice glasses - her body was crying out for Vitamin C.

He looked round with a grin as he cracked the eggs into his jug. "On the porch sounds very nice, yes."
