Lorna continues her quest to cook less. This time Rahne comes down to the kitchen and gets the same offers Jamie did.

Lorna was, thanks to careful mental editing, in a good mood. She refused to even begin to think about the mess that was going on behind the scenes today. Better to leave it to those who could do some good. She was just a chef. Lorna grinned at Rahne’s response to her comment and pushed last of the drop biscuits into a napkin-lined basket.

Rahne made her way down to the kitchen in fairly short order and poked her head in. "Hi. So what were ye wanting to say, then?"

“Come in. I promise I won’t throw anything at you.” Lorna beckoned her further into the room. “Dinner? I’m just finishing up.”

"Thanks." Rahne smiled. "I'm hunting tonight, but not planning to eat it right away."

“I noticed. I think there is room in the other freezer if you don’t mind. We’re a bit full up here until after the holiday.” Lorna waved Rahne to a seat and got out a couple of plates. “Anything to drink?”

"Er, milk, please, but I can get it --" Rahne made a half start toward the refrigerator, but Lorna had beaten her there, so after a moment's uncertainty she sat. "And aye, I checked for space earlier, and 'tis apparently supposed to hang cool but not frozen for a few days, so...."

Lorna moved with the peculiar efficiency of any chef on a roll. She slid a glass of milk to Rahne and followed it with a plate of cranberry chicken and other sides. “Oh. Well, whatever works best then. There are rolls in there.” She sat down with her own plate and a bottle of water a moment later.

"Thank you." Rahne bowed her head briefly over the food to thank Someone else as well, then looked up, waiting for Lorna to start first.

Lorna smiled, more at Rahne’s saying grace than the thank you. She lifted her fork and sampled the mashed potatoes and yams she’d made Jamie peel earlier. “So you’re wondering why I dragged you down here, aren’t you?”

"Didna take much dragging. I thought at first ye might want an extra pair of hands for something, but then ye didna seem in the midst of anything."

“Nah, I got my extra hands earlier. Jamie showed up at just the right moment.” Lorna laughed. “Actually, I roped him into something as well. I’m not going to be here for Thanksgiving so I asked him to take over.”

Rahne blinked. "Well, he'll be good at that, no doubt." She crushed a flare of... something; envy probably, of a sort. She hadn't seen as much of Lorna lately as she had for a while, and it wasn't as if she'd ever planned meals for as many people as Jamie's family apparently held, never mind the school.

Lorna was poking at her chicken, dissecting it fussily. “I’m sure he will. But I was hoping you’d be willing to help him out anyway.” She looked up at Rahne and smiled. “He took it all in stride but even six Jamies is going to have his work cut out for him with this group. I’d really like to know that you were here for him.”

"I'd be glad to," Rahne said without hesitation. ...That felt better. Of course, she could have gone and offered anyway, but it was still nice.

“Excellent.” Lorna beamed. “While I’m imposing on your good will… Nathan and I had a talk today and he’s going to be taking over my beginning cooking class. I’m going to be starting an advanced class so I can sneakily make other people do the cooking around here. I know our lessons have kinda fallen by the wayside. But would you still be interested?”

Rahne's eyes lit. "Of course I would! Och, that sounds wonderful."

“Wonderful? I don’t know about that. But it should be an experience. I was thinking we could do some actual menu writing, plan the week out. And of course, I’ll be making you learn all the things I got from a red-faced Frenchman.”

Rahne shrugged a little. "I'd like to know more. I've missed it."

“More can definitely be arranged.” Lorna nodded. She paused, considering something, “You and Jamie are getting invitations to the class. If you know anyone else who might be interested would you have them come see me?”

"I'll be sure to." No one came to mind immediately, but she should have time to think about it tonight.

“Thanks.” Lorna finished drinking her water and pushed it and her plate aside, having eaten no more than three bites of any of her food. “I gave Jamie my recipes and stuff for Thanksgiving.”

"Right." Rahne glanced worriedly at the barely-touched plate; nobody had precisely told her anything, but she'd picked up a few things, and wasn't sure either way how to bring it up, or if she was supposed to. "...Not hungry?"

Lorna started and glanced down at her plate. “Oh, um. No, not right now. I just wanted to check it out, make sure it had come out right.” She mentally scolded herself for falling back into old habits anyway.

"'Tis very good." A small smile. "But ye knew that."

“I know it’s supposed to turn out well. I like to check anyway.” Lorna smiled back. “It’s actually a really simple recipe.”

"I'll look forward to the lessons."
