Who is involved: Jubilation Lee, Carlie Bartlet
Date: Backdated to Friday 26th November 2004 Time: 4pm
What Happens: Jubilee and Carlie are alone in the house while Madelyn is off with her parents. The girls take the chance to gossip about Madelyn's love life and the school.

"Mom and Dad have taken Mad to the cemetary to visit my grandparents' graves, there's nothing but old soppy movies on the TV and I have hot chocolate and Kate's shortbread cookies," Carlie announced, coming into the living room with two mugs in one hand, a plate in the other. "This calls for a gab fest. You up?"

"If I wasn't I'd say I'd been taken by aliens and had a pod person left in my place. Although, if that had happened, I suppose I wouldn't be sayin' anything. But! I am totally up for a gabfest." Jubilee replied, taking her cup of hot chocolate from Carlie.

"Oh good, because I'm bursting to hear more about the school, especially after that show you put on last night - that was just about the most amazing thing I've every seen!" Carlie settled herself on the couch beside Jubilee, setting the plate of cookies on the coffee table and curling her be-socked feet up under her in much the same manner Madelyn had when she was relaxing. "But first things first. Who's this Kurt guy and what's going on there? Is he nice? Does he like Mad? You said they've been going out, but she's doing that whole 'we're just friends' thing - is he interested at all? And if he isn't, why the hell not?"

Jubilee sipped at her hot chocolate as she thought about Kurt and Madelyn. "Kurt's the nicest guy, he's my gymnastics teacher. Sweet, funny... is blue and has a tail and is completely clueless about Mads' attraction to him. They like each other, you'd have to be an idiot not to see it. But they're like, totally stubborn about it. I mean, I've been seriously thinkin' I should just throw 'em in a room and lock the door, only Mads has this thing about bein' pushed. I ain't the most subtle of people, ya know?"

"No, really, you aren't?" Carlie gave Jubilee a disbelieving look, and was rewarded by Jubilee sticking her tongue out at her, cushion twapping being out on account of them both having drinks in their hands. "You're right about Mad, she... Waitaminute. Blue? He's blue? And he has a tail?" Carlie's eyes grew round. "Oh. My. God. He's a mutant? And he likes Mad?"

Jubilee laughed. "Dude, the shocked look on your face. Yeah, he's blue and a mutant. Also is way, way more agile then I am and manages to run rings around me in gymnastics. But that's probably why he is the teacher and I'm not."

"But Mad's just... Mad. Just like me, an ordinary person. Why would he..." Carlie seemed to realise how that was sounding and cut herself off. "So is that his power? The agility and the being blue and the tail?"

"Carls, I kinda like to think of myself as a normal person. Most mutants do. Just cause we can do things, doesn't make us any more brilliant or special then anyone else. We all learned to tie our shoes and take our first steps just like everyone else did. We just get that little extra genetic birthday present is all. As to Kurt's mutation, well the being blue and stuff is the physical bit. His power is teleportation, never asked him his range though. We got a couple of them at the mansion."

"I didn't mean it like that. Just..." Carlie flailed a bit with her free hand. "You shoot fireworks out of your hands. You can't tell me that doesn't make you special. The same way Joe's music makes him special. It's a gift. And I love Mad to death, but she's so... boring sometimes. I mean, it was exciting when she was with the FBI, and being a doctor is so totally awesome, but she's just a teacher and school nurse now, even if it is at a totally cool place like Xavier's, and you're telling me a blue teleporter with a tail is interested in her? When there's people like Alison Blaire teaching there too?"

Jubilee laughed. "Guess I'm so used to everyone's powers, I don't think of it as that exciting. Kitty, one of my suitemates can phase through solid objects, and Jamie can create multiple copies of himself from ectoplasm. And Paige, that's my roommate, she can shed her skin and have stuff like steel form underneath."

"Gah, I so have to visit sometime!" Carlie was just about vibrating with frustration and excitement. "You talk about this stuff like it's nothing, and it's all so amazing, and ew, she sheds her skin? Really? That sounds kind of gross. Cool and exciting, but gross."

"Yeah, but she's pretty good about not leavin' bits of her skin lyin' about though. So it's all good. I guess, to me it is nothin'. I mean, when you're surrounded by people that can do five impossible things before breakfast, you just kinda start to see the impossible as normal. We got a new guy at school, Forge. He can build things, I guess. Didn't really get the full lay out of his power. He's kinda finding it all a bit weird, I think. We got people who can do
magic too. And that was of the weird, findin' out magic was real. Heck, I even got to use it when we went to this other dimension. Got turned into a pixie by this elf and spent what felt like months hangin' around in Viking style mead halls."

Carlie blinked. Audibly. "Now you're bullsitting me," she said, sounding a little hurt. "Magic's not real, not in a million years. And another dimension? Come on, Jubes, I thought we were friends here - you don't need to give me all the tourist crap."

"Dude, I am seriously not shitting you. An' we are friends, that's why I'm gonna ask you to help me plot gettin' Mads and Kurt together. Totally can't do that by myself." Jubilee replied.

Mutant powers, well those were things that were right in front of people and it didn't take much to convince someone of something when most people knew at least one mutant. But magic was a bit different, Jubilee could understand why Carlie wouldn't believe her readily. Better to change the subject the to continue and have Carlie get really upset with her. Some things no amount of explaining could make believable. You just had to see it for yourself.

"Well, okay, you're not shitting me. But you can't tell me there's someone at that school who can do all that Harry Potter crap." Carlie sniffed a little disparagingly, and took a sip of her chocolate, considering the knotty problem of Madelyn's love life. "The thing with Mad is you have t' be really careful. She's got this whole control thing going on. She's in charge of her life, she makes the decisions, blah blah blah. Which works all right with the career stuff, but she's hopeless when it comes to the personal stuff. She's either too busy to even notice someone likes her, or she gets all weird about how they couldn't possibly see her as anything more than a friend. And she's really sensitive about blind dates and that. So anything we do has to look like it's from her."

"So, what do you think we should do then? I've got a couple of people I think would be in for helpin' out. Some of them even know the meaning of the word subtle." Jubilee replied, leaning forward with interest.

"Hmm... Sounds like there's people already working on it - this dance
teacher, the one who was hurt, she's the one who asked Mad to take over for
her with the class, right?" Carlie gave Jubilee a grin. "Talk to her about
ideas. This Kurt... he's looking out for Mad, right? Making sure she eats
and sleeps and stuff? 'Cause you might be able to use that as well. Make
him think she needs to go out more, have fun." A speculative grin appeared
on Carlie's face. "See, what we need is an excuse to dress her up, so he
notices she's like, you know, pretty,/I> under all those t-shirts and
labcoats. A party or something."

Jubilee thought about that for some time, trying to figure out if there
were any parties planned at the mansion in the immediate future. "Nothing
planned currently but that doesn't mean we couldn't plan something. As to
the eating and sleep, I'm sure I could probably talk Clarice into helping
me with that. Between the both of us we could probably make some kinda
noises that Mads needs to get out more. And I'm gonna have to talk to
Alison when I get back anyway, so I think we have a plan."

"I think we definitely have a plan," Carlie agreed, nodding. "Now, how
about you tell me all about Xavier's?"
