In which Miles proves he's a mean, wretched little boy who is well on his way to becoming a twisted misogynist . . . Well, maybe not quite that bad, but he's a mean little prick to Leyu anyway.
If the television was any indication (and TV never lies), then Christmas was coming up fast. And Leyu hadn't done anything to prepare for it yet. She knew her brother had mixed (well, negative actually) feelings for the holiday, but she loved it. All the snow and candy and presents and friends . . . It would be different this year without her cousins, but she would enjoy it nonetheless.
Part of the staple of Christmas is buying gifts for friends. Leyu had a list made: Shiro, Miles, Nga, Leong, Alex, Lorna, Clarice, and Artie. She'd have to bug her brother for money, but that was the easy part. The hard part was figuring what to get everyone. That meant a little deviousness. Skipping down the hall, she made for Shiro's suite, and almost ran smack dab into Miles. "Gomen!" she cried out, embarrassed. "Oh, Miles! Hello." She smiled.
Oh no. It was, of all people, her. Taking a few steps back while trying not to look too defensive, Miles gave Leyu a grumpy look. "Hello, Leyu." He bit down on any number of comments and tried to walk around her, to get away from the Source of All Cooties as quickly as possible. He was going to have to have a serious talk with Artie about this. Soon. It was getting ridiculous.
Something seemed off with Miles today. Well, something always seemed off with him. Probably something to do with Ms. Blaire and being almost kidnapped those weeks ago. So she didn't hold it against him. "Anoo, are you doing stuff now? I have a question."
Always with the stupid questions. Mama wasn't like that, nor was Lorna - Miles had long determined that Being Annoying was a purely Leyu factor and nothing else. It had, of course, nothing to do with Artie being slowly corrupted. Nothing at all. "What would Leyu like to know," Miles sighed, giving up on escape. For now.
"Anoo," she hesitated. Why was he so stand-offish? She didn't do anything wrong, did she? Maybe Shiro had said something stupid and mean so Miles was blaming her by proxy. That wouldn't surprise her much. "You are Artie-kun's roommate, ne? So you know what he'd like for Christmas, ne?"
She was cheating. It was mean and unfair and... girl like! With cooties on top! But oh - the opportunity for sabotage was so hard not to see. Torn, Miles looked down, chewing on his lip while trying to decide what to do. On the one hand - Leyu giving Artie a sucky gift? Potentially very good. But - that would make Artie sad. And mean he got a bad present. That was bad. Gah. Miles hated girls. Adults were fine, but girls were just horrible.
"Miles thinks Artie keeps a secret list of things in our room." Sighing heavily, Miles gave in. "Miles could get it for Leyu to pick something from, then sneak it back."
Leyu squealed in delight and smiled brightly at Miles. "Doumo! Thank you! I will be right here. And if Artie-kun comes back, then I will warn you!" Perfect. Now she would be able to get Artie something he liked, and maybe even get an idea for Miles, too. And he really deserved a good gift for helping her with this.
She wanted to do that now? Miles tried not to grit his teeth, but it did make sense. It wasn't as though she had tons of time left to go buy anything. He and Mama had looked at a lot of things on line but neither of them wanted to go out, though Miles hadn't admitted to her that he felt that way, or that he knew she felt that way too. She knew, anyway. "All right..."
Leyu was too excited to notice Miles's disposition. She would get a gift that would make Artie smile, and because he was helping her out, she would get something that would makes Miles smile, too. Maybe she could ask Lorna to make green Pocky just for him. "Cool. I will stand right here," she said, planting her feet down.
With a heavy sigh Miles headed off towards he and Artie's room, vaguely hoping Artie would be there and ruin the plan - although on second thought, that would just mean that Leyu would insist more and they'd have to do this again and suddenly, Miles found himself very motivated to get this over with and done as soon as possible. Besides, it would minimize all contact with the Source of All Cooties that way. "Miles will be right back."
Leyu watched Miles walk off, and covered her mouth with her small hands to stifle her giggling. Hopefully Artie would ask for something Leyu could give him, and that nobody else had bought him yet. So the real question now was, what to get Miles? She knew he had a little Tonberry plushie already, so that was out. But getting him a green today seemed to be something he'd like, especially given his green-themed birthday. "Oh!" Clamping her hands over her mouth again, she smiled. A Fuu plushie to go along with Tonberry! If he liked Final Fantasy, then he would have to like Magic Knight Rayearth, too.
