Kitty & Dani
Jan. 15th, 2005 10:19 pmKitty and Dani try to be girly. or something. it....kinda works, even if they are both more comfortable knee deep in car grease and computer parts.
Dani rummaged through some trunks and random furniture in the storage areas of the mansion, hoping to find some clothing. She had found a bit, but nothing that was remotely workable, mostly clothing from the 20's designed for matronly old women.
Kitty's homework failed to hold any real interest for her today. It was -way- too early in the term to be getting bored of her homework, but maybe this was that 'senior-itis' thing she'd hear of. Or maybe it was just a boring paper on a boring book. Either way, it seemed like a day to go exploring. It had been at least a year since the last time she'd gone poking through the attic and with Mr. Marko working on the house there was a good chance something new would have been uncovered. Humming to herself, Kitty phased out and walked up an imaginary set of stairs into the attic, too lazy to go the normal way.
"Gah!" Dani yelled, tripping a chair leg and sitting in the chair abruptly, as Kitty floated up through the floor. Wincing slightly as she landed on her bruise, she yelled, "What the hell?"
"Oh, cripes!" Kitty gasped. "I'm sorry! Are you ok? I didn't know anyone was up here or I'd have taken the stairs."
"I'm fine," Dani decided as her leg throbbed slightly, it was still only a bruise, "And you are?"
"Kitty Pryde. Here, let me help you." Kitty offered a hand to help the other girl stand up. "You must be Danielle, right?" she added, going quickly through the list of the mansion's newest residents in her head.
"I'm fine," she waved the shorter girl away and stood on her own. "Right. Kitty...I've seen you on the journals."
"Yep. It's nice to meet you in person." She smiled. "I really am sorry about scaring you like that."
"It's okay," Dani couldn't help but smile back, "So...you normally wander around the attic like a ghost?"
"Oh yes. Am working on my gothic charm. The only thing left is to go mad like one of Dickens' more hopelessly tragic types." The smile grew into a grin. "Nah. I like exploring and my power makes it easier for me to do that. I can phase out and walk through walls, you see, and I've been working on walking on air, too."
Danielle nodded, not understanding the reference,"Well, I'm generally considered mad, so between the two of us, we're a bad movie waiting to happen."
"Excellent. Are we talking one of the girly adventure types where two women steal a car and go off on an expedition across the country? Cause we could probably get the jeep..."
"Well, I did kidnap Forge and force him to listen to country music while we drove to Oklahoma," Danielle mused, going back to rummaging through the box, "So sure, why not! I've got sunglasses, somewhere."
"It's possible the teachers will worry if we go for too long, though. And Jamie. Maybe we should settle for an expedition around the Mansion. Are you looking for anything in particular?" Kitty added, waving at the boxes Danielle was going through.
Closing the box she had been working on, she moved on to another, "Maternity dresses? Or anything that might fit? Preferably not something my grandmother might wear, I'm not that fat yet."
"Ah, of course." Kitty pulled open another box and began rifilng through it, but it was clearly filled with young boys' clothing. "Oh, did you see the note Dr. Bartlett left on the journals about her sisters' clothing?"
"Yeah...but I thought I'd look here first, one of the teachers said it was okay," she couldn't remember which one, which was annoying. She forgot the most random things it seemed.
"Not a problem," Kitty said, shutting the box and moving on to the next. "Hey, look, toys. Not terribly useful, but cool none the less."
Sighing, she closed her box too, "I already went through that one. I think I've been through them all. Ain't nothing here."
"Ah." Kitty nodded. "Onto the next room, then? Or is there a better option?"
Wiping her forehead with her shirt, she looked around the large room. "You mean there's more?" she couldn't believe that even a school like this could have such large storage space.
Kitty grinned. "Yep. The attic's pretty big, and the basement's massive, but most of that's storage for the labs. There probably won't be any clothes down there. And there are a lot of unused rooms down in the other wing of the mansion, but I don't know if there's that much stored in them. Well, not beyond the furniture, anyway."
"You're kidding," Danielle replied, looking around wide-eyed. "This room could fit my old house...There's no way I'm going through them all today!"
"Nope, not kidding. The mansion is ginormous, and I would definitely not suggest trying to go through it all in a day. But, if we're being logical about it, the attic is going to be your best bet for clothing, so you don't need to worry about the basement and the downstairs. And you can always ask everybody else if they've got clothes that will fit. Or if they can make them. We've got a couple of seamstresses about - Clarice is really good, and Terry's not bad either."
Quirking one eyebrow, Danielle rose from her chair, groaning slightly. She had been comfortable, "That's an idea. Maybe they can do something to make this stuff work. I ain't going to the dance thing if I don't find something though. Ain't even been to a 'semi-formal.'"
"Well, I can help carry some of it down and we can see what Clarice thinks. You really ought to come, I think. It'll be fun and it's a chance to meet pretty much everybody." Kitty poked at one of the boxes that was still open and filled with dresses. "Do you want to just take the whole box?"
Dani looked at the box of clothes, shrugging. "Sure, why not?" she bent down to pick it up, surprised by the weight, "Oof, lead on!"
"Oh, no you don't," said, holding out her hands. "One of us is pregnant and the other one of us is good at carrying boxes. Unless there's another box of stuff you want, let me help with that one."
"I'm pregnant, not dead!" Danielle muttered, giving up the box anyways. It was heavy and big, although she did wonder how the smaller girl was going to manage. Appearantly very well, as Kitty didn't seem to notice the weight at all.
Kitty shifted her grip on the box and smiled over it. "Course you're not. But that doesn't mean I don't want to try to help. I assume you're going to want to go the long way down, yeah? Stairs and doorways and all that?"
"It is the usual way..." the idea of not going down the stairs was rather terrifying, actually.
That got the other girl a grin. Kitty was well used to people finding her habit of going through walls a tad distressing. "No problem," she said. "Don't know which stairs you came up, but the closest ones are over there." She nodded towards a door into the next room and headed off. "So, how're you finding life at Xavier's?"
"Fine," Danielle said, following. These stairs weren't the ones she had come up and she was mildly worried about finding her way back again, "It's...different. Very different."
"Yeah, I can imagine. There's really not a place like this anywhere else in the world." Kitty shifted the box again and glanced over at Danielle. "Where's your room, by the way?"
"Um..." she paused, turning around in the new hallway, "That way? I think," she picked a direction, "I have my own room. Near Forge & Kyle? I don't know the number."
"No problem. I know where they are." Kitty set off down the hallway. "This hall's actually near my suite - down on the other end on the left. Me and Illyana, Paige and Jubilee, and Clarice and Terry. Come by if you ever need anything."
"Um...sure," she answered not quite knowing how to accept the offer, "Thanks."
