Jubilee decides to make donuts for Madelyn in way of thanks for going with her to San Francisco. This does not turn out as well as you'd expect.

Jubilee stirred the batter vigorously, keeping an eye on the pot in front of her. The oil should be starting to get hot now, and she'd be able to put the batter in. She couldn't make traditional donuts, not having the tools but she could make donut holes, which were really just balls of donut covered in sugar. It was a surprise for Madelyn, for going to San Francisco with her and checking on her parents case. Peering over the lip of the pot, she placed the bowl of batter on the bench beside her. Turning her head back to look at the pot, she started backwards as hot oil spat, catching her in her right eye.

She screeched as a bangle caught the edge of the pot and sent oil spilling everywhere, including her jean covered legs. In her panic to get the jeans off that were currently scalding her legs with hot oil, she forgot about the stove entirely and only noticed the now merrily dancing flames when she'd torn off the offending garment. Had anyone chosen to walk into the kitchen then, it might have appeared a rather strange sight. Jubilee, jeans around her ankles and one hand still rubbing at a watering eye, standing, looking dumbfounded at quickly growing stove fire. Had someone walked in, they might have stopped her from doing the thing she was about to do, which was reach for the glass of water she'd been drinking and slosh it on the fire.

Jubilee might have noted to anyone, had anyone asked her, that she wasn't particularly thinking properly at this point in time. One seldom does with their jeans around their ankles and a fire close at hand. Still, it was with dawning horror that she noticed the bright burst of flame that eventuated from this act and the fact that it now appeared to have caught her jeans on fire as well.

Jeans that happened to be caught around her ankles and would need to be gotten off quickly now that the flames had decided to obey the laws of the universe and were greedily gobbling up the oil soaked garment and burning the unprotected flesh beneath. She batted at the flames with her hands for a moment, detachedly noticing that trying to slap out fire didn't work nearly as well as you might think it would...had you been someone recently suffering from a head trauma that is, or just someone completely refusing to accept that such a mundane thing as a kitchen fire could possibly happen to them, survivor of demons and slayer of clock radios. The pain had started to register now though and in just a few minutes she'd realise the horrible caterwauling screams were her own.

Amanda had been on her way out the back for a smoke, when the screaming caught her ear. Screaming was Bad. Dashing into the kitchen, she stopped in shock at the sight of Jubilee on fire. The air was filled with the sweet, cloying smell of burnt sugar, and the worse smell of burning hair and skin.

"Lee!" she shouted above the girl's screams. "For fuck's sake, stop! Yer makin' it worse!" Flinging up her shielding spell, she approached the other girl, hands outstretched. If she could get Jubilee to hold still, she'd have a chance at putting the fire out...

Jubilee was currently beyond listening to anyone, what she wasn't beyond doing was shaking first one leg and then the other in an attempt to get her feet free from the jeans. Apparently the sneakers she was wearing had other ideas and were quite happy to catch on fire as well. She made a random detached note to complain about non flame retardant footwear. Something was wrong, she was in a great deal of pain and appeared to have caught on fire quite a lot. She should be panicking and swearing and generally being hysterical but for some reason, things had slowed and seemed to be coming from a long way away. Someone appeared to be speaking to her, and as she looked up blankly she realised it was Amanda.

"Oh for fuck's sake..." The shaking her legs was only fanning the flames, and now her shoes were on fire. "Listen, you dozy cow, don't make me have t' knock you over as well..." Amanda said, advancing on Jubilee. Knocking her over was precisely what was going to be needed here.

The screaming from the kitchen was oddly familiar. Marie-Ange -had- been heading there anyway to see if anyone had left any banana bread. At the sound of screams, she burst into a run. Oh. -That- was why it was familiar. Jubilee. On fire. A lot of fire. And Amanda, untouched by flames.

"What are you -doing-?" Marie-Ange snapped. ~That was supposed to have been a hallucination. Merde!~> "What does it bloody well look like?" Amanda retorted over her shoulder as she made a grab at Jubilee, who had now apparently decided to start the flailing and screaming part of the whole being on fire experience.

It was a pity that Amanda had chosen that point to look away from Jubilee, as if she hadn't, she would have noticed the right hook the other girl had decided to land on her. As it was, it was only through Pete's continued self defence instruction that Amanda felt the contraction of Jubilee's shoulder muscle, judged the intent and managed to move her head aside in time. Jubilee however, was not exactly in the position to control her bodily movements and continued sideways.

Jubilee's flailing fist only gazed Amanda's cheek as she jerked her head back, and her patience snapped. "Oh for fuck's sake," she growled, doing what she should have from the start and yanking the fire blanket from the wall bracket with the TK spell. She roughly wrapped it around Jubilee, using it to pinion her arms before tackling the Asian girl to the floor so she could pat out the rest of the flames. "Help me," she told Marie-Ange. "We gotta get her t' medlab an' I can't carry her the whole way."

So, Amanda putting Jubilee-on-fire out was a variation on the vision she hadn't considered. "Of course," she said, already moving to throw the other fire blanket on the burning stove. Wouldn't do to leave the kitchen on fire. Between the two of them they managed to get the shocked Jubilee off the floor. "I thought... I've Seen you, standing over Jubilee on fire. I did not realise..."

"We can talk about it later," Amanda replied, not so much curtly as distractedly. "Think you can make something to help us carry her down?"

Marie-Ange nodded, flipping through the ever-present cards until she came to a useful one. She held it up for Amanda to see - the Chariot. "This shall do, yes?"

"Brilliant. Come on, let's get Martha Stewart here downstairs."
