After all the commotion dies and the medlab is as calm as it will be for a while, Dani brings Mr. Wagner some dinner. Pancakes for Fat Tuesday! They find solace in their prayers over the children.

Creeping down to the medlab, Dani tried not to disturb any of the patients or hopefully sleeping medlab staff. In one corner, where the kids were sleeping, sat Mr. Wagner, watching over them. Coming up beside him, she stood there, watching as he prayed, rosary beads in hand.

"You didn't eat earlier," she said, holding a plate for him.

Kurt looked up sharply, startled, having not heard her coming. "Oh! Danielle. Thank you. I did not want to leave them alone tonight..."

She nodded, watching them sleep. They looked peaceful, which seemed amazing after the seeming chaos earlier in the day. "They shouldn't be alone," she pulled a chair up from a nearby work table and sat down with him.

He took the plate of pancakes with a slight smile of thanks, putting it down on the table. "How are things in the main house?"

"Calming down. Most people are either relaxing or going to bed," she didn't mention that she had turned off the inhibitor bracelet for a little while, enjoying the relief that everyone had felt. It seemed wrong somehow.

He nodded. "That is good. I hope people will be able to sleep..."

She shrugged, not uncaring, but unsure it mattered. Either they would or they wouldn't. "You were praying?" she asked, nodding at his rosary. "It is Fat Tuesday."

Another nod, as he lifted the rosary slightly, fingers running over the beads. "Yes, it is. And prayer seemed more needed than usual, today."

Nodding again, she sat silently for a minute. "Doug tried to explain pancakes on Fat Tuesday, but it seems silly. There are far worse things you can eat."

"The idea is not eating unhealthy food", Kurt tried to explain, glad of the distraction. "The idea, when the tradition first began, was to use up all of the milk and sugar and butter in the house, so that there would be no temptation over Lent."

Dani tensed as one of the children stirred slightly, afraid she had woken him up. "Ave Maria, zenanosheamaesz maheo zevissevata zeshivatamaet zeoxextohevoxzheeo, na ninanoshivatama nihevetoxeszexaet Jesus," she began, a familiar prayer in an unfamiliar language.

Kurt reached out to smooth back the child's hair, soothing him back into rest. He recognised the rhythm of the prayer if not the words save the first, and joined her in Latin.
