In which Clarice still does not skewer Shiro and Alex defends his friend while making sense and not getting skewered himself. No shish-ka-bob tonight.

Set after the V'Day fight but before they make up.

Clarice sat in the fencing hall, holding her katana. She was pissed and she knew that the image of Shiro running down the hall while she demanded his head on a platter just wasn't going to happen. After all, they'd had one date.

It was a good date though, even if she'd never really had any other official first dates to base it off of. Which was probably why she was pissed over Valentine's Day. She hadn't expected much, just some candy or a small bear. But appearantly that was too much.

Ironically, Alex was looking for the object of Clarice's anger, wanting to show off his new containment suit that will allow him to never blow up again. He glanced into the fencing hall and instead of finding a little Japanese guy, he found a very pissed purple pixie. Curiousity getting the best of him, he walked in and leaned against the wall. "Not a good Valentine's I take it?"

"What gave you that idea?" she asked sarcastically, glaring at him. Best friends were almost guilty by association. "I'm not Japanese."

Both the comment and the anger pointed at him caused him to raise an eyebrow. "Oh really? What did he do this time?"

Standing, she propped the sword against the wall. Fortunantly, she hadn't removed the sheath, "Absolutely nothing," she replied sweetly with a rictus smile. They were best friends, so Alex must have been consulted on all this. He should know.

He'd heard rumors that Shiro had royally screwed up, but he'd been busy on his own Valentine's Day, what with getting his suit and surprising Lorna, so he had yet to get the full story from Shiro. Obviously the rumors were true. "So, he really didn't get you anything huh?"

"Not a fucking thing. Because girls don't get stuff in Japan," she replied sarcasm dripping from her words. Sarcasm was better than crying.

Alex held up his hands. "Wow Clarice, don't get mad at me. I offered to take him shopping with me, but he said he had it covered..." Then he crossed them back across his chest, the white orb there glowing softly. "Look Clarice I can understand why your mad at him...but didn't he give you a reason?"

"That was it," she shrugged helplessly, blinking back tears, "Girls don't get stuff on Valentine's Day in Japan. But I didn't know that. And I got him Pocky, 'cause I thought he'd like it and it wasn't too much. I mean, we've been to a couple dances and one date. So I wasn't expecting a huge thing like you and Lorna probably did. But nothing?" Clarice babbled, sniffling and confused.

"Hey hey..." Alex went forward and reached to give the girl a hug. "Look, Shiro...he's nervous about this whole thing. Trust me, you know how much convincing it took for him to even admit a girl 'could' like him? He probably didn't know what to do and blamed Japanese custom so it was justified in his mind."

Crossing her arms over her chest, she didn't quite believe him, "Like I ever thought a boy would like me? Especially Shiro? Come on!"

Alex couldn't help but roll his eyes. "So you both are insecure when it comes to relationships, big deal. How do you think I felt when I found out one of my teachers had the hots for me? There I knew I didn't, couldn't, have a chance, yet there it was. The night we actally got together, was the night of our first big fight." He shook his head. "So your both going to screw up...it's natural. So is your insecurity. The important thing is that you two need to work through this, it'll only make it stronger, I swear."

Blowing her over-grown bangs out of her face, she sighed. He was right. She knew it. She hated it. She had pride. Stupid boys. Really stupid boys. "So...I just gotta suck it up? Forget it."

Now that just made him laugh. "I didn't say that. You're right, Shiro
was wrong. But you shouldn't base your relationship on one silly
missunderstanding. Because that's siller then I'm sure you think Shiro
is right now." Then he smirked and crossed his arms over his chest
again. "Give him another chance? and I'm saying this as your friend,
not just his."

"Yeah," she said dejectedly, not quite wanting to believe she was being silly, "Yeah," she repeated, more forcefully this time, thinking it over. It was kinda silly to dump a guy for something like this.

Alex grinned. "Good I'm glad that settled. But don't give him...make him come to you. Us guys need to sweat sometimes, trust me, i know from experience."
