When Jane's eyes opened, Thomas was staring down at her, a worried look on his face.

"I did it again?" she asked, quite, beginning to recognize the 'flavor' of headache and the rawness in her throat that meant she'd had another fit.

"You did it again," Thomas agreed.

"Are you ok?"

"Yes."

"Did I hurt anyone?"

"No."

She pushed herself up to a sitting position; slightly unnerved that Thomas didn't help her, and looked around. She was in bed in her studio apartment, which had definitely had better days. Her mirror was shattered and her things thrown all about the room. Without looking at him, she asked Thomas, "You're upset, aren't you?"

"You need to get help, Jane," he said, taking a seat on the bed next to her.

"Who could help me?" she asked. "I really don't think a priest is going to be willing to exorcize me."

"You're not possessed, Jane. I've done some research, and..."

"Don't start that again," she said, cutting him off. "I don't want to hear it."

But this time her short answer didn't stop him. "I've done some research, and there's a fellow in the States who I think can help you. His name is Xavier and he..."

"He specializes in mutants, Thomas. I know who he is. I am not a mutant. I don't know what's going on, but I am not."

"Then what Is going on, Jane? How do you explain this?"

"I said, I don't KNOW!" she yelled, managing just barely to keep it under a shriek but regretting it instantly anyways as her throat let her know that whatever else had happened when she destroyed her apartment, she had been screaming. Again.

Thomas flinched at the volume, but didn't move away. That was why she loved him – even after all this time he hadn't left. Everyone else had left her, but Thomas was still here, trying to help her. And all Jane could do was scream at him.

"I'm sorry," she said, softly. "I'm just... I don't know how to handle this, Thomas. I don't know what to do."

"Go to the States. See this Xavier and find out if he can help."

Jane bit her lip, terrified by the idea, but equally frightened by whatever it was that was happening to her. "I... I can't," she said. "Thomas, I can't go to America. I don't have that kind of money, and I can't afford to take the time off work. Hell, I'm barely getting by as it is."

"I'll help," Thomas promised, reaching over to push her hair back, fingers trailing over her skin. "I'll do whatever needs to be done, because I really think you have to go."

Slowly, Jane nodded, and he smiled at her.

"Good," he said. "I've booked a plane ticket for you this weekend."

"You WHAT?" Fuck. And there was that pain in her throat again. "How could you? Before you even asked? And what if I had said no? Thomas, you can't do this! You can't make me go!"

"What would have happened if I had been here last night, Jane?" His voice was still calm, but his gaze had shifted to a look of steel. "Look around you. Whatever is going on is dangerous, and I'm not just talking about to me. What if the mirror had been closer? What if it had been above your bed? You are going to meet this Xavier, end of argument."

"And what will you do if I say no?" she challenged him.

"I'm not going to wait around for you to have one of these 'fits' and throw me into a wall or off of a bridge or something, Jane. That's not reasonable. I just want to help you. Please, Jane."

She bit her lip again, looking away. Of course it came down to that. She was dangerous and maybe he did want her around, but he wasn't stupid or crazy. Finally she said, "I'm paying for my ticket, Thomas. I'll give you whatever I can now and I'll pay you back for the rest of it."

A quite sigh escaped him. "If you want," he said. "Just so long as you go."
