Since she's in the know, Rahne does her best to help a very peeved Catseye in the quest to manage another shift to something a bit bigger than well - a maine coon sized purple cat. The patience of a saint, that girl has.
Concentrating was one thing Catseye could do very well indeed - it came with hunting for sustenance for the better part of your life. Which meant patience tied into that in great big whomping quantities of, even at the worst of times.
But for all that she could concentrate and be patient, Catseye was starting to get a little bit tetchy about the serious lack of big catness happening. The following hiss of frustration as she looked up at Rahne bore witness to this rather amply.
Rahne had decided to take a nap in the middle of her bed in wolf form. She was going to have to wash the sheets soon anyway. She picked her head up from her doze and peered down over the edge of the bed at the Annoyed Purple Cat, then hopped down, stretched, and shifted to a transitional form to crouch and observe her roommate from there. "I'm wondering," she said after a moment, "if maybe ye arena trying too hard. Ye look all bunched up, and not the right way for pouncing." Catseye was generally very fluid even when tense. Right now her whole body looked like a scowl.
The scowl intensified and was accompanied by an odd sound - which turned out to be Catseye somehow managing to grind her teeth, of all things. Stupid stupid aaarg... The incoherent mental sputterings were accompanied by the sight of Catseye flopping down on her stomach, forehead hitting the floor soundly between her paws. And then a long suffering sigh.
"It did take me quite a while to get changed back from a wolf the first time I turned into one," Rahne mused. "I'm not too sure how to describe it at all. I'd only changed forms once, then, see, and I was... distracted at the time. I couldna think how to do it again at all, especially the other way. I think in the end I did it when I was a wee bit more relaxed, though. And not straining."
A shift and suddenly a girl was flopped face first on the floor, a low mutter rising from her and continuing until it reached levels intelligible to Rahne. "...and Catseye is not straining at all it is just that Catseye wants to get this right and the big cat shape felt good and different and grarrrrr..." Another heavy sigh followed, all too human this time. "Catseye will get it if it is the last thing Catseye does."
Thunk.
"'Twas just a thought," Rahne said mildly. "I doona turn different sizes, myself, at all. I was just remembering the closest thing I'd had to do. This in-between form was hard at first," she added reflectively, "but that was more because 'tis on the way from one to the other, and I kept falling through." She smoothed Catseye's hair briefly, making a thoughtful noise in her throat. She wasn't going to argue about the straining, if Catseye said she wasn't. She'd said how it looked. "I'm thinking it wouldna be good to make things too much like that night, might be impossible, but maybe something about it -- could moving help? Or have ye tried that already?"
"Yesss..." Catseye sidled a bit closer, still lying on the ground. The petting had been nice but then Rahne had stopped. More woe. "ShinyBitsBoy told Catseye to stop bouncing off the walls before he put industrial
strength glue all over them just to stop her." She pouted at that, though there wasn't a repeat of the head thumping this time, instead Catseye turning her head to the side to look at Rahne.
There was a definite "you could at least keep doing it until your arms fall off" look from her roommate, and Rahne reached out to pet purple hair again. Personal space felt very different when she was a wolf, and Catseye seemed to stick with the cat version all the time instead of having a similar perceptual shift. "Maybe outside at night, then. More space, no walls and nobody to complain."
"Ooooh." The sound was something of a cross between a purr and a coo. Frankly, sticking around humans was doing funny things to her thinking if she hadn't been able to come up with that one on her own! Beaming, Catseye coiled up her legs underneath her body and pushed up, slowly coming almost nose to nose with Rahne. "Will RedFurFriend come along too?" If there was no Big Catness happening, well, the day certainly wouldn't be lost if Rahne tagged along.
Rahne grinned. "I'll be there gladly."
