Before all the snow is quite gone, Jamie and Kitty go out sledding. It's the conversation that does the most going downhill, however, as they take a straight dive right into the innuendo and only manage three runs down the hill before adjourning back to the house for a shower and considerable et cetera. Basically fluff. :)
After nearly two years, Jamie had gotten very good indeed at finding Kitty pretty much wherever she might be in the mansion, and today was no exception--although it didn't hurt that finals were in the foreseeable future, so it was a safe bet she was getting a jump on studying for them. Just to keep things interesting, Jamie tiptoed up behind her chair, stealing a kiss as he snugged her winter hat down over her ears. "I call break time," he murmured. "At the rate Ms. Munroe's melting the snow we've only got maybe one or two good sledding days before it's all gone, and we haven't done nearly enough careening down hills at unsafe speeds on badly-designed pieces of brightly-colored plastic this year."
Kitty let out a squeak as her textbook disappeared from view when Jamie kissed her - she had been so caught up in her differentials that she hadn't realized he'd come in. "Hello, love," she said. She tossed a glance down at her book, then flipped it closed. "Sledding sounds fantastic, but if I start talking about the coeficient of friction between the snow and the sled, stop me." Grabbing her coat, she stood up and took Jamie's hand. "Let's go."
"No talking about friction. Gotcha." Jamie grinned. "I think I can come up with a couple ways to keep you quiet, yeah. I've even been known to distract you from physics entirely, now and again." He cocked a teasing eyebrow at her. "Unless you've been solving equations in your head while we're, y'know. But hey, whatever gets you going."
Kitty blushed bright red at the suggestion. "No," she said, sticking her tongue out at him, "I am most decidedly not thinking about physics then. You're very good at distracting me when you want to be."
Jamie laughed. "Just making sure. A guy's got his pride, you know." He squeezed her hand. "'Sides, you have an adorable blush and for some reason I don't see it as often as I used to."
"I can't imagine why..." she said, then turned and raced through the hall and down the stairs to the front door, tugging him along behind her and giggling. Silly was good.
Jamie whooped and ran to keep up, all the way out to the school's semi-official sledding hill, where he had a dupe waiting with an assortment of sleds. "Milady's prerogative," he said gallantly, with an expansive gesture.
Grinning, she picked a bright red two seater and moved it slightly back onto the flat, settling down carefully. "Come on," she said. Watching as he reasborbed the dupe she mused, "I wonder they don't make three person sleds..."
"I bet they do. It might depend on how close you are to the other two people, though." Jamie grinned and got into the sled behind Kitty, taking advantage of the cramped quarters to scoot in close, his outstretched legs bracketing her hips. "And what, one of me isn't enough for you anymore?" he murmured into her ear, before leaning back and planting his hands on the snow, ready to push off.
"One of you is amazing," she replied, grinning over her shoulder. "I am merely contemplating the possibilities."
"Ah, contemplating." Jamie nodded wisely. "Contemplating can be fun." He grinned and pushed off, sending them down the hill.
Kitty let out a gasp as he shoved off and then went sliding down the hill. The sled she had chosen utterly lacked any steering aparatus, but that was ok. The hill was mostly clear, except at the bottom, and before the time the sled made it that far it had upset, spilling the two of them into the snow. Well, it had upset with some help.
Giggling, Kitty rolled over and sat up, shaking the snow out of her hair. She had always been of the opinion that the best part of sledding was the bit where you fell out of the sled and rolled halfway down the hill, personally.
Not, clearly, a proposition Jamie was inclined to argue with. Grinning, he shook himself like a dog, spraying snow everywhere. "Now how'd you know I used to roll down hills for fun, huh?"
Kitty meeped, dodging out of the way of the flying snow. "Didn't," she said, "but any sledder worth his salt likes the rolling bit best." Standing up she brushed the snow out of her hair far more sedately than Jamie had hurried over to retrieve the tipped sled. "Come on," she called, starting back up the hill.
Jamie laughed and followed. "Don't mention salt, you'll scare the snow away." When they got to the top of the hill, he eyed a pair of round sleds speculatively. "Wanna race down this time, or are you liking the tandem action?"
"Tandem is always nice, but I'd be up for a race." Kitty set the sled far enough away from the hill that it wouldn't slide down on its own and picked up one of the small sleds. "You are going down, my dear Jamie. Care to name a forfeit?"
Jamie's ears went decidedly red as his mind immediately connected the idea of a forfeit with Kitty's choice of phrase. "Erm. I, uh." And wow, was that mental image totally not going away. ". . . You pick?"
Kitty blinked as she saw Jamie's ears blush and quickly ran back through what she'd said. Oh... oh! She blushed in turn but raised an eyebrow at him. "That works..." she said, grinning slightly. She reached over and caught the edge of Jamie's jacket, pulling him close and kissing him deeply. "See you at the bottom," she said when she let him up to breathe, then dived for one of the two round sleds, launching herself down the hill.
Jamie blinked. She really . . .? She's really getting a head start, moron, he reminded himself, and took a flying leap to land sliding down the hill on the other sled.
Between the head start and just being smaller, Kitty was the sure bet to win. Jamie was gaining ground but couldn't catch her before she coasted to a stop at the bottom of the hill, turning to grin over her shoulder at Jamie. "I win," she said smugly.
"You win," Jamie agreed, dragging his feet to coast to a stop next to her. "And, y'know, I do not have a reputation as a welcher." He leaned over, claiming a kiss. "So when did you want to collect?"
"Mmmm, whenever." Crawling into his lap in the snow would not work, she decided. For one thing, the sled would tip over. Although, that could be fun... She shrugged and proceeded to try, flipping her own sled before she got close enough to wrap her arms around him and tug him over into the snow bank. "You know, you look really cute with snow in your hair."
"Heh." Jamie rolled them over and kissed her. "So do you. And, you know, if we keep this up we're gonna get all soaked and cold and the only thing for it will be a hot shower."
"I'm ok with that," Kitty said, kissing him again. "Particularly if there is a lack of suite mates around..."
"They're all usually elsewhere this time of day," Jamie replied, toying with a stray lock of her hair. "We could go check. Or we could go down the hill a few more times, but--" He grinned. "I dunno about any more races. Who knows what you'll have me do if I lose again."
Kitty shivered slightly as a bit of snow slid into the collar of her jacket and began to melt its way down her spine. "Maybe one or two more rides. And fine, no more racing." She pouted slightly.
Jamie kissed her again. "No pouting. I can't just lay everything out all at once just because you're feeling competitive, I'll run out of tricks. I will carry your sled back up the hill though."
"Very well," Kitty said, sitting up and brushing most of the snow out of her hair and away from her neck. "I guess I can live with that." She scrambled to her feet and offered Jamie a hand up. "And what is it with us and bets? First it was the strip poker, now this. Samson would probably have something very Freudian to say about it all, but that would involve both telling Samson about our sex life," she managed to say without a blush, "and then listening to a discussion of Freud."
Jamie took Kitty's hand and stood, then without letting go hoisted the sleds with the other. "I'm still just happy to be able to apply the term 'sex life' in private, personally. Some things even the therapist doesn't need to know." He grinned at her. "And I like the bets. In moderation anyway. Can't be bad if it helps us be comfortable with trying new things, and anyway collecting on them has been a lot of fun so far."
Kitty smiled. "A very good point," she agreed, setting off up the hill still holding onto Jamie's hand. "I like your reasoning."
"I can be very reasonable about the people I'm unreasonable about," Jamie replied, "and I love you pretty darn unreasonably." He snickered. "Also, you are fun to have sex with, and you know me and fun."
"Fun... Not an adjective you hear that often attached to sex. Just so long as I'm the only one you're having fun with." She shot him a grin, not at all serious - the very idea of him cheating on her was preposterous and only ever came up in really, really bad nightmares.
Jamie rolled his eyes good-naturedly. "Yeah, yeah, don't worry, if I have anything to say about it you always will be the only one." He blinked suddenly, though, and gave Kitty a worried look. "Um, does that mean, I mean, you're--you're having fun, aren't you? When we--I mean . . . you are, right?" That was something he'd never been sure about--he didn't worry about himself, he went off in his sleep sometimes completely by accident, so with Kitty actually there he was pretty much set . . . but the vague things he'd picked up before New Year's had implied girls were a little more complicated, that way, and he did the best he could but realistically speaking, well, he hadn't exactly gotten much practice yet. Jamie squeezed her hand hopefully. "You'd tell me if I was doing it wrong, right?"
"Woah, woah, woah. Trust me, I have no complaints on that score." They'd reached the top of the hill and the sleds weren't about to slide off again, so Kitty tugged him closer, wrapping her arms around his shoulders. "I love you, and I love how you make me feel, and I love pretty much everything else there is about you. Just so you know."
"Well, good. Because that's pretty much exactly how I feel. I love you more than anything and I want you to be happy." He grinned. "Especially with our sex life, because I gotta tell you, it's pretty darn good for me and it's only fair if it is for you too."
She reached up and kissed him. "You sure you want to take a few more rides? Cause I'd be ok with going inside and being good for each other." Another small piece of snow slid under Kitty's collar and she shivered. "And also the hot shower thing sounds good."
"Mm." Jamie grinned and kissed her again. "Not a suggestion I'm at all likely to argue with, that one. One more ride down the hill, since it's on our way, and then we go inside and . . . warm up?"
"Deal," Kitty said.
