Who: Lorna, Jubilee

What Happens?: Jubilee asks Lorna to go shopping with her in order to spend the gift certificate Betsy got for her.

Jubilee peered round the kitchen door, in search of Lorna. She'd tried her room first but when she hadn't found her there, had come to kitchen thinking she might be overseeing the rebuilding. She needed someone to go with her to spend the gift certificate that Betsy had given her, and it had been awhile since she'd spent any time with Lorna. It seemed like the perfect solution to both issues if she got Lorna to go with her.

Lorna grimaced at the last outrageous, but perfectly totalled Dani assured her, invoice as she signed it then unceremoniously kicked the contractor out before doing a quick 'yay, done' shimmy. She caught sight of Jubilee in the doorway and waved her in, "Come celebrate no more workman with me!"

Jubilee grinned and walked in, looking around at the newly finished kitchen. It looked quite good as far as kitchens went to her untrained eye. "Funny you should mention no more workmen. That has to mean you have time for shoppin', right? Because I just happen to have a perfectly good gift certificate for a great big wad of money to what Betsy described as 'horribly loud but perfectly me' clothing store. Wanna come with? I'll even drive and buy lunch."

"A perfect for you store? You want me to go blind, don't you?" Lorna grinned, "Let me grab my purse. But I get to drive. You can drive back after your sartorial choices have seared my retinas beyond all repair."

Jubilee puffed up her chest indignantly, a carefully contrived disdainful look on her face. "I'll have you know that florescent yellow is a very good color...if you want to scare small animals and/or children" she finished, collapsing into giggles. "As to the blindness. Well, we could always get you a cooking eye dog, which is kinda like a seeing eye dog, only it helps you cook instead of cross streets..."

"No pets in the new kitchen," Lorna said automatically. "Wait here." She ran upstairs and retrieved her purse then dashed back downstairs. "Okay. Let's go. I've got to be back by four though. Dinner needs to get started and I'm so not letting anyone else cook the first meal."

Jubilee bounced excitedly and then led the way out the door as fast as her size 6 sneakers could carry her.

***

"Okay, so like, if you get to drive, does that mean I can pick the music?" Jubilee asked, sliding into the seat on the passenger side of the car. "Cause, I totally got this new CD last week I've been wantin' to try out."

"Totally great CD...I'm going to say okay but with veto rights." Lorna eased the car out of the garage and down the long driveway, "So where is this store of great scariness?"

Jubilee grinned and slid the CD home in the player, waiting as the first strains of Gwen Stefani's new album started to play. She especially liked the 'what'cha waitin' for' song but that was later on in the album and she wanted to listen to it all the way through. She pulled out the gift certificate and studied the address. "Wellll, looks like it's on the second floor, so we'd probably be better goin' in the south entrance carpark. Clothes Du Jour, it's called."

"Clothes du jour, cleaning rags a demain?" Lorna asked, grinning at Jubilee. She leaned over to look at the gift certificate and gave a low whistle, "That's gonna buy you a lot of frightening attire."

"It's totally too much for me alone. So, I was actually thinkin' I could get some stuff for other people too. Kinda like a surprise, ya know? Like, with 'Rice, I could probably get a skirt in purple and I totally wanted to get Kitty a scarf. Paige would be like, somethin' in yellow, cause she was sayin' she likes yellow. And 'Yana I was gonna get some striped socks for, and Terry...not sure what I could get for Terry but somethin' in green, definitely." Jubilee replied, not seemingly taking a breath in the entire stream of babble.

"I think I should be afraid of you inflicting your fashion sense on anyone else but instead I'm going to go with, that's really sweet and a great idea." Lorna gave it some thought, tapping her fingers in time to the music. "Maybe a jacket for Terry? She's got kind of a quirky traditional sense of style."

"Perfect." Jubilee crowed, leaning back and flipping the window switch to let the glass roll down. Sometimes, just being out in a car going somewhere was the best feeling in the entire world. Having someone to share it with made it even better, especially with shopping as the end goal.

***

"Dude...I think I just died and went to heaven." Jubilee breathed, her eyes widening as she stood in the entrance to the store.

"I think I've gone blind." Lorna responded dryly, shielding her eyes. "I think that's shirt is brighter than your jacket." The store was actually quite cute if rather outré. Very Jubilee. Betsy had good taste.

Jubilee grinned and grabbed Lorna's hand, towing her over to the first racks. Her eyes drifted across a rack of ultra mini skirts, and she noticed a rather cool leather skirt that had yellow fabric underneath which seemed to peek through slits that had been made in the top cover of black leather. It gave an overall pleated effect. She looked through the rack till she found one in Paige's size and draped it over her arm. "What do you think? Paige material? Or should I go for a shirt for her?"

She would of course shop for herself as well but first she wanted to take the time to choose the gifts for her friends. It always took her more time to get something for someone else, then for herself. She wanted the items to be perfect, afterall.

"I think you're a brave woman to suggest that Paige would wear a mini-skirt." Lorna shifted the clothes then dragged out a pair of buttery yellow snake-skin pants. "These on the other hand she might
just stare at in a bewildered fashion."

Jubilee grinned and threw the pants over the same arm she had the skirt on. Just because she wasn't going to get Paige the skirt now, didn't mean she couldn't try it herself. It'd go perfectly with the boots Remy had brought her from Paris and all she'd need then was a good shirt for it. "Great! Now...something for 'Rice. Purple, although...red might work."

Lorna glanced around. "Maybe over there?" She gestured toward another rack farther in. "There is some plaid stuff and like she says, it's of the strong."

Sometime later...

"Dude, come on. It's so totally you. Just try it on before you make a judgement? Pleeeease." Jubilee said, turning her cutest, most 'please do this for me as I'm so cute and you really don't want to disappoint me' look on Lorna.

She was holding out a dress, the fabric of which could possibly have been said to have been made to cover not a hell of a lot at all. It was a deep emerald green and Jubilee thought it would look perfect on Lorna with her hair colour and skin tone.

Lorna frowned at the scrap of fabric-calling it a dress was being too generous. "I don't think so, Jubilee. It's just not the sort of thing I normally pick. I hardly ever wear green." But Lorna was weak and crumpled under Jubilee's pleading look. She sighed as she took the dress. "All right, but you're not buying it and you will tell no one."

Jubilee tried to look solemn as she nodded an affirmative but then spoiled it all by bouncing in glee as she led Lorna toward the change rooms. She had a whole stack of clothing to try on herself, as well as the gifts she'd brought for her friends and the watch she'd found for Amanda at the front counter - that particular gift she'd have to think of some truly impressively sneaky way to deliver.

Giving Jubilee a last deeply suspicious look, Lorna ducked into one of the changing rooms. Next to her, she heard Jubilee juggling hanger and the unmistakeable sound of her losing the battle and letting them hit the ground. She giggled and began to change out of her jeans and
wrap top. "You okay, J?"

Jubilee glanced down at the pile of clothing that she'd simply given up on holding anymore and grinned. There was something nice about being able to buy so much stuff you couldn't hold it all. "I'm cool, just realisin' gravity doesn't like it when you try and go all deviant on it."

"Yeah. Gravity isn't just a good idea. It's the law," Lorna intoned solemnly as she slipped the dress over her head. It settled around her and despite some persistent tugging refused to do more than skim her thighs. She made a face at the mirror and reached behind her to zip it. "Oh, I'm so not wearing this in public."

"Dude, never say never." Jubilee replied, having put on the leather mini skirt and a white top with a yellow smiley face on it. She walked out of her own changing room and stood grinning in front of Lorna's. "Totally think you're gonna look hot. Come out an show me?"

Lorna frowned at her reflection again then stepped out of the dressing room, raising an eyebrow at Jubilee. "There is barely a dress here. This is more like a sash with delusions of grandeur." She hooked a finger into the deep v neck, "I think this counts as indecent exposure."

"Dude, you look totally boss. Alex's eyes are SO gonna bug." Jubilee replied, examining Lorna closely. "So...like, if I gave you a camera an stuff, think you could take a picture of that?"

"I'm capable of working a camera." There was one in a box somewhere from her parents. A nice birthday present but not so much with the useful. "Except that you're forgetting what I said when I agreed to try this on. I'm not buying it and neither are you." Lorna tugged at the hem of the skirt again and wished for another two inches.

Jubilee pondered whether the kitty eyed look would work again. Possibly but she didn't really want to make Lorna do something she wasn't comfortable with. She had seen a similar style dress in black but with a longer skirt. "Hmm...I saw one back there in black with a longer skirt. Personally, I'd go with the one you've got on but either would still look totally hot."

Lorna rolled her eyes, "Jubilee, I really don't need you to buy me anything. Just get stuff that you want and pick out your presents. I honestly don't need anything."

"Spoilsport." Jubilee replied but she was smiling. "Okay, okay. Shopping for me it is then. What do you think of this?"

Jubilee held out her arms and did a twirl around, showing off the skirt and top.

Lorna grinned, "I can't believe I'm going to say this about your outfit but I actually think that's really cute. You should absolutely get it. And..." Lorna darted out of the dressing rooms and returned with a cropped blue jacket studded with gold stars. It was over the top and tacky and completely Jubilee. "this over it."

"Wow, that is like, so perfect." Jubilee said, putting on the jacket and looking at herself in the mirror. She bounced a little and then dashed back into the change room. "Got this pair of jeans too, s'got this blue dragon on one leg, so cool."

She placed the skirt, top and jacket to one side - definite purchase material there and pulled on the jeans before walking out, completely unselfconscious about being in only a bra and jeans. "Totally not sure about what top to get for it though. What do you think?"

Lorna chewed her lip, considering it. "Maybe like a peasant blouse in the same color? But that's so of subdued...oh, bead fringe. Wasn't there that one top with the beads?" She drew a line under her breasts to illustrate what she meant.

"Oo! I remember the one!" Jubilee replied, diving back into the change room and hunting through the pile of clothes gravity had decided needed to be on the floor. She quickly shrugged into a dark blue tie-tied top with lines of small silver beading hanging from it in an arrow shape with the last line of beads ending at her belly button. She padded out to give Lorna a look at it.

Lorna nodded, "Yes, that one! If you got Clarice to replace the silver with gold beads, it would match the details on the dragon." She considered the shirt a bit longer and nodded, "That would totally
do it."

"Perfect. Which reminds me I totally have to find somethin' for 'Rice. What do you think? Jewellery or clothing?" Jubilee asked, wandering back into the change room and picking a black dress off the floor. It was a qipao style mini. She slipped it on and checked her profile in the mirror.

"She makes her own clothes. Maybe jewellery? There's that wide coin bracelet? Or...I don't know." Lorna leaned against the wall, forgetting about the dress she was wearing.

Jubilee walked out of the change room, examining herself in the longer mirror. She grinned as she saw Lorna leaning against the wall. She really did think the dress looked great but how to get Lorna to buy it? Maybe she just needed to wait till Lorna realised how good it looked, she certainly seemed more comfortable in it right now.

"The coin bracelet was pretty cool, an I think I saw a matching necklace to it too. I'll take a look when we get to the checkout. "So, think I'll stop traffic?"

"Yeah, I do. You know, as your teacher I don't know that I should allow you to walk around looking like that." Lorna folded her arms and attempted to look stern. Jubilee looked fantastic, of course.

"Well, I suppose I could walk around in a schoolgirl outfit, pigtails an all..." Jubilee replied, trying to look innocent but the sparkle of mischief in her eyes completely betraying her.

"That's so not any better. Buy the dress. We can pimp you out for money if the school falls on hard times." Lorna grinned. "I'm going to change now. Put on real clothes and let's get something to drink."

Jubilee snickered but didn't protest as she walked back into the change room. She'd get all these, and take a look at the jewellery for 'Rice. She'd already gotten the other presents she wanted, and the noises her stomach happened to be making seemed to indicate lunch was in order. "Coffee? Or something filled with sugar guanteed to make me hyper for at least the next hour?"

Lorna shimmied out of the dress and hung it up carefully before sliding back into her own clothes. "So long as I can dump you on someone else in the next hour, I'll let you have sugar." She bent to zip her boots then walked out and dumped the dress on top of Jubilee's pile. "But only this once."

And it's only ever going to be worn for Alex, right? Not out in public or anything? I don't wanna have to feel like hitting people with a board for staring, and also, haven't I been traumatized (http://www.livejournal.com/community/x_logs/480434.html) enough?

If she's wearing a dress like that, do you think I'm going to let her make it to public place?

This is a good point. OK, I can relax now. What you two crazy kids do in the privacy of your own room is something I'm used to not thinking about. ;)

Well, if she does manage to sneak away from Alex's very watchful eye (why or how, I am unsure) Paige is more than willing to notify Lorna that she's quite hot in a perfectly serious and offhand sort of way and not have a clue why every does the head-turn-jaw-drop-baffled look in her direction before returning their attention to the lovely greenhead.

Well, Alison's just been doing that for (literally) years now. Does Lorna believe or listen to her? Nope.

Hey, I didn't say anything about Lorna believing her. Lorna's a dork. I'm just mentioning Paige would do it.

*grins* Oh, we agree fully on the concept of Lorna being a dork about her looks, no doubt there. ;)

Aw, you'd hit people with a board for me? You're the best, Jamers.

Yes, yes it is. And thus you are a gentleman to beat manners into people.

Agh. Stop doing that with your icons! I don't want to go to the special hell!

I thought you were planning on using a board?

On other people, sure. Hitting yourself with a board is trickier, though.

If I'm going to hit myself in order to dupe in order to hit myself, I can save a whole bunch of steps by just hitting myself and stopping there.

Oh, well, if we're talking funny, I can turn it into a whole slapstick routine. I was talking "Get The Wrong Bad Thoughts Out Of My Head Right Now."
