After Alex's conversation with Shiro about Shiro becoming a trainee, he discusses it with Lorna. The conversation strays to boys in skirts and such, and takes a turn for the worst before it gets better.

Alex looked up skeptically from his laptop where he sat cross legged
on the end of the bed. "But, I still don't get it! Why does everyone
have the sudden urge to go out and be a hero? I mean, you guys I can
more understand...but Shiro...well maybe...but still..."

Lorna shifted against the pillows she'd propped up against the
headboard. "I don't know, hon. I've told you why I do it but
everyone else? It's not like we have to write little essays about it.
All they tell us about the new kids is that they're joining us and
it's time to pick a name. Hence the jokes about Shiro in a sailor
suit."

Scowling before turning back for one last look through his e-mail,
Alex shook his head. "Guess it's just something I have to get used
too...I still don't like it..." Figuring it was time for a change in
subject, Alex closed his laptop and set it aside as he smirked. "About
Shiro in that sailor suit...think we could actually pull it off?

Lorna pealed with laughter, "God, that would be awesome. I'm still
dying to do that boys in skirts fashion show. We could give all the
proceeds to charity, like Red-X or something. I don't know why all
the men around here are so opposed to charity."

"It's not the charity, it's the prancing in skirts we don't agree
with! Getting up in front of people in skirts would just make us look
even weirder then people think we already are!" He crawled up to lean
against the head board, arms around her waist.

She curled up into him automatically, resting her head on his
shoulder. "It would be funny. I could cater it even. Get some big
name celeb in to emcee. We could even get a ribbon. We could raise a
ton."

"Sweetie, you know you could sucker me into it, but I doubt that you
could get anyone else..." He nuzzled her hair for a moment as he
thought. "What about something safer like...a book or calendar or
something? Less embarrassment for us and still fun for you?"

"Embarrassment sells though. Like sex. Well, not precisely like sex
but at least it's safe for all ages." Lorna pouted. "Alison and I did
talk about doing a swimsuit calendar. The Men of X. All about the
hotness of our mansion boys."

Alex perked up at that idea. He could do swimsuits. "I like that idea
much better, of course I used to live in a bathing suit. The others
might to be harder to convince but I think they'd go for that over
skirts."

Lorna grinned. "But we could convince them eventually, I bet.
Especially if I enlist their girlfriends." She slipped her hand under
his shirt, stroking the slick material of his suit. "You'd have to
take this off for the picture."

Leaning forward, Alex kissed her nose. "Why of course. Has to be a
proper surfer boy picture. Now, who else shall we get? Scott would and
Clarice, Leyu and I can get Shiro...."

"Ali can convince Haroun and I'll bet that I can talk Remy around if
he doesn't volunteer." Lorna mused out loud. "I need a notebook to
write this down. Where is…" she looked around then spotted her spiral
on the desk, "C'mere you." She held out her hand and yanked it over by
the metal spiral.

Alex reached over to the bedside table for a pen and offered it to her
to scribble down names. "So Me, Scott, Shiro, Haroun, Remy...MA would
probably make Doug do it if she heard about it..."

Lorna scribbled the names down then listed the months. "…four, five,
six…okay, ten more if this is a sixteen month calendar. How about
Jamie? Oh, and Sam. Too bad Bobby left for school; he looks great in
a suit."

"And you know this how?" Alex raised an eyebrow then shook his head.
"Wait nevermind, don't wanna know. That winged kid...what's his name?
Jared? James? the one who rooms with Kyle, who should be put as an
alternate if we don't have enough since he's a little young..."

"Because I've lived here for three years, silly. You see everyone in
a swimsuit sooner or later. Jay, the other Guthrie, good choice.
Warren, too, because wings are cool." Lorna noted his name down along
with Kyle and then for good measure Forge's. "Those three are kinda
young. How about Kurt and Hank?"

"Yeah like I said, leave then unless we can't come up with enough...or
maybe we can have all three together for a jailbait month." He smirked
before biting the inside of his cheek. "Definitely have to have the
blue duo...Jake's back, he's do it...and..."Then he stopped, wondering
if she would take his next suggestion.

"Oh, Jake, totally!" Lorna nodded and jotted it down, ignoring or
missing the trailing 'and', "Okay, so that's twelve without the
munchkins. Four more. Who are we missing. John's gone, Bobby's gone. Nate! And Piotr too."

"Well, there's Angelo and well..." He took a deep breath and got ready
for the backlash. "Manuel..."

Lorna hissed and pushed herself away from Alex, rolling to the edge of
the bed and grabbing at her crutches. "No."

Rolling his eyes before sighing, he pushed off the headboard to follow
her. "Why not? It's not like there's anyone else..."

"Samson. The Professor. Artie, for Christ's sake. Not Manuel"
She stood, shakily and turned to face the bed, "Hell, we can put a
little black bar over the ball of light that is Jono."

He had made it to the foot of the bed and was kneeling right in front
of her. "Come on Lorna...aren't you being a little irrational? I know
you don't like him but it isn't like your going to actually be doing
anything with him...just his picture." He sighed and sat back. "You
know...you live in the same house as him. You can't keep having this
same reaction whenever someone says his name..."

"The hell I can't." Lorna shuddered. "Shall we do a women's version
and ask Selene to join us? It's not like you'll have to do anything
with her." She turned away and headed for the living room.

Groaning softly, as he been expecting the use of Her as an attack, he
got up and stood in the doorway, blocking her route to the living
room. "At least I can hear Her name and talk about Her without
throwing a hissy fit. I've made progress but you refuse to even try
and put it behind you..."

"I'm not throwing a fit. I'm saying no and that's final. No one
doubts that you have a right to hate Selene," she refused to say her
with its capital letter the way Alex did, "or that she meant to hurt
you. But I don't get that. I get told I'm overreacting every single
time. Please move."

"At first, yes it would not have been overreacting. I would have to
agree with you there." He put his arms up to completely block the
door. "But it's been over a year Lorna..."

"I don't like him. I'm never going to like him. I don't care how much
he's changed or how sorry he is or anything like that. If he's part
of this, I won't be. Do it yourself. Now get out of my way." Lorna
tightened her jaw and struggled to stay calm.

"This is your project, not mine, and you don't have to include him if
you don't want too...I just think it's about time you faced this..."
Sighing he dropped his arms and took a step to the side. Not waiting
to see if she moved or not, Alex moved back to the bed and flopped
down on his stomach, head hidden in his arms.

"It's our project. You and me." She shook her head, frustrated. "I'm
working on it, Alex. The fact that I can talk about it? The fact
that I'm not screaming or throwing up or hysterical? That's me
working on it. Being told that I'm not getting over this fast enough
isn't going to make me get over it faster, it's just going to make me
mad." She continued out the door and into the living room. She
flopped down on the couch and covered her face with her arm.

"You ran away! The second I mentioned his name, you ran away! Excuse
me if that doesn't look like you're working on it! We promised we
wouldn't do that to each other anymore!" Alex raised his head and
yelled into the living room before burrowing it in his arms again.

"I'm right here, Alex." Her voice was weary rather than angry. "I'm
not running away, I'm just not having this fight in our bedroom. Come
here and we can continue or just leave me alone." It hurt that he
didn't understand and refused to understand but she kept it out of her
voice.

"Sure looked like it..." Alex muttered to himself before he slowly got
up and went to the door, not entering the living room but instead
leaning in the door way. "I know it seems like I don't understand...I
really do, you know that. I just want to help you get over this...and
I guess I don't know how..."

"I have to live here with him around. I have to live with people
thinking that I got it all wrong and he was just trying to help." She
lowered her arm to her waist and tilted her head to look at him. "He
had me make him dinner even after I burned my hand. He forced me to
eat more calories in a single sitting than I'd had in a week. He
tried to burn out how I felt about you. I'm not anywhere near
forgiving yet, Alex. Please stop asking."

Sighing he closed his eyes and ducked his head. "I would be a
hypocrite if I did. I just...I know he's right down the hall and his
very name upsets you. I want to help you...I know, I know, I'm friends
with him, but I only want to help you. What he did was wrong,
there's no question about that. I just...I want to help you." He
walked over to the couch, wondering if he should sit or not.

She sat up and took his hand, lacing her fingers through his, "I'm
working on it. I swear to God I am. I don't like being terrified of
him. I don't like fighting with you about him. So I'm working on it
but it's going to take time. Even though it's been a year, I'm just

Alex nodded slowly as he sat down and cuddled against her. "That's all
I needed to hear. So, do a jailbait month then to make an even
sixteen?"

"Unless we missed someone legal. Which is possible considering how big
the school is." She turned her head to nuzzle at his neck just to
assure herself that he was there and not going anywhere. "I'll hijack
Alison. She's mentioned having a photographer friend before."

"The only other person I can think of is Cain and...no. That would
scare more people then get them to buy it." Alex turned his head and
buried his nose in her hair. "She would. And here I thought you wanted
to do the photographing yourself..."

"I thought about it and I think I want to be there but I don't have
any photography expertise." She frowned, thinking. "Someone here does though... Who was it..."

"Besides Alison...no idea." He shrugged slightly, leaning back into
the cushions.

"I could have sworn someone was into photography. Oh well, they'll
come out of the woodwork eventually." She settled against him more
comfortably, still agitated enough to need the reassurance of contact.
"In the meantime, we can start figuring out months and themes. You
get a summer month, of course, surfer boy."

Comfort he was very willing to give. "I think July and August should
be reserved for the Summers Brothers...it's only fitting. Horatio
should be in Scott's pics, they are both sun addicts afterall..."

She laughed, "An excellent point. You and Scott for hmm, June and
August? Start of summer and the end of it? We can fly out to Hawaii
and get a real surfing shot."

"That works too. Did I ever tell you you were brilliant?" Grinning, he
leaned down and gave her a proper kiss. "Still love me?"

"Always." She kissed him back fervently. "It's scary to argue with you
because I do. But I know you love me. So that makes it safer." She
twisted to face him more directly and combed her fingers through his
hair. "Because you're stuck with me."

He almost purred at the fingers in his hair. "And I love that I'm
stuck with you, wouldn't have it any other way..." Carefully of her
leg and shoulder, he scooped her up and carried her back to the
bedroom.

but Manny's up for anything, up to and including stuff like that.

Haroun, OTOH, just said no. He'll pose shirtless gladly, but that's about it.

It's the whole artificial thing.

Hank's in, but only if he gets to stay dry. *g* He'll wear as much or as little as Lorna desires, but if he's going to be in a picture, his fur will be blowdried and properly foofed!

He's spent too much time under the mansion's Hotness Field, is what it is. More than a month of constant exposure and you're doomed to terminal attractiveness, no matter what you looked like when you showed up.

That must be it. It's impossible to be in any way resembling unattractive in this place. We try, and we try but to no success.

They could exploit it as a source of additional funding.

Eight weeks at Xavier's School for the Gifted and Spa. Lodging, utilities, gourmet cooking, and instruction in olfactory and psionic etiquette included. Persevere through any attacks or other general weirdness occurring during the eight-week period, and you will depart with permanent increases in attractiveness and the ability to cope with the unexpected.

Perhaps not.
